Thank you Christeen and daboyz. This is very helpful. We will go to SS office and try our luck.
We went and applied for the SSN at the SSA office and said we will get the card in 2 weeks. SSA officer warned us that going forward we should wait at least 7 days after the POE.

I read the reviews and it looks like Chennai does let spouses to the interview. I am planning to be there for my wife's interview.
I thought of sharing my experience here. Chennai consulate didnt let me (USC) go inside with my wife for the IR1 interview They said it should have been mentioned with the application.

It seems that the Medical services at Appollo Hospital are quite expensive. And, they look so strict that there are not allowing electronics and gadgets.
Interesting.. I had no issues with my laptop and Blackberry. May be they changed the rules

Thanks. I've been living outside the U.S. and really can't afford to play cat and mouse. Just the thought of losing all those paperwork...urgh!!!!
No problem. I completed the whole NVC process from outside US. good luck!

I sent our DS 230 to NVC via DHL. TRacking says package was delivered and signed but to DHL facility in Boston, MA?????
Isn't NVC in Portsmouth, NH?
Dont worry. I had gone through the same thing. It is a DHL thing. Their boston office is covering portsmouth, NH.

To add to that, I don't know how long you have been married, but we got married in 2006. I went back and amended my 2006 and 2007 returns to show married filing jointly. We got a check from the IRS for about $5500.
Thank you Christeen and daboyz. This is very helpful. We will go to SS office and try our luck.

What kind of visa is it?
My wife is IR-1 and under her picture it says this:
"Upon endorsement serves as temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residence for 1 year"
Thank you daboyz. It is IR1.
I see the message below the picture now
Did your wife apply for SSN at SSA office or waited for them to send it ? Since Tax filing is coming closer I am curious to know which is the better option.
Thanks again

Folks,
Finally my wife is back in US after a long wait. I was checking her passport and couldnt find any I-551 stamp. She has only the original "immigrant visa" stamp. Will that be a problem for applying SSN?
Thanks

Actually, the Chennai website is unclear. It recommends you keep to a minimum but doesn't limit you:

Most of the embassies I know allow the USC spouse to be their spouse during the interview,
When I had my interview in Riyadh, there were 3 applicants whose accompanied by their spouse, so defenitely they do allow that.
Thank You!

Hello All,
I would like to share my wife's medical at Appollo Hospital, Chennai. It cost us a total of about Rs 5000/- with no vaccination records.
They normally give the medical report only on the next day at 3pm. So be prepared to stay there for a day. I went to VFS and paid the courier charge of Rs 387/- on the same day. VFS dont allow any electronics inside especially laptops and all.
regards

Sorry I originally posted this in the wrong forum...
My NVC sign-in failed on Jan 7th and AVR was updated with the message "Case completed on Jan 6th".
First of all thanks all for your help with the whole process. I was very nervous initially as I was not sure whether I could complete the whole process from India.
I have been staying in India for last several months. The only issue that I faced, being in India is the shipping time of the documents. Normally it takes about 10 working days in total to reach the proper NVC person/dept though shipping takes about 3-5 business days.
I had recieved an RFE to submit PCC from passport office.
Any ideas on when can I expect the interview letter and interview date?
Thanks
Here are my approx time lines
I-130 filed as LPR -> 02/06/2009
I-130 approved -> 10/19/2009
moved to NVC
NVC AOS - 10/29/2009
NVC AOS paid - 11/2/2009
NVC IV fee paid - 11/18/2009
NVC docs sent ~ 11/25/2009
NVC RFE for PCC - 12/06/2009
NVC PCC sent - 12/17/2009
NVC login failed - ~ 01/07/2009
Interview date ?????

My NVC sign-in failed today . I am not sure when they completed the case as I haven't tried to login for the last few days. AVR message is not updated with the completion information. It still says "Pending recd document checks and status will be updated in 2-3 weeks". I had recieved an RFE to submit PCC from passport office. I hope they will update the AVR shortly.

Catergory: IV Package
Stupid RFE: For India, apparently you have to submit 2 police clearances. One from the District Police and one from the passport office. Especially for New Delhi, you have to have it for NVC, but other embassies in India, such as Mumbai, you can submit at your interview. We only submitted the district PCC.
Yes I got an RFE for not submitting passport PCC So I went and collected the PCC from passport office and sent to NVC. I did send the local PCC. When I called NVC to check the status, they said it was a mistake of raising an RFE and case will be closed and transferred to Chennai consulate. Anyway since i sent the document, the status is showing as pending as they received the packet and pending "processing". So far I lost more than 2 weeks because of this. Hope they will process and close the case in another few days.

Thank you very much everybody for your valuable time and help. I think mine is CR-1. This is for my wife in India.
I will go to the regional passport office to get the PCC as well.
Thanks again

Dear all-
Do we need to have police clearance certificate from both the local police authority and the passport office for the interview.
I had sent only the police clearance certificate issued by the local Police Authority with the DS-230 package.
I haven't applied for the PCC from the passport office. Is it required?
Can you please share your experience?
Thanks

Dear friends,
Please help me with this situation. My wife's I-130 is approved and moved to NVC. I got the NVC emails to pay AOS fee and a copy DS3032 form.
I paid the fee $70 AOS fee online. But unfortunately due to some personal issues I am currently in india and have to be here for at least couple of months.
Do you think I will have any issues with this processing since I am here in India. I brought most of the documents with me while coming to India. I have a friend in US who is checking my mails. I would like to complete this process while I am here in India and bring my wife with me to US if possible.
As per the visajourney guidelines, I see that the beneficiary can email DS3032 form. Are we sending a scanned signed copy of the form as an attachement in the email?
Sorry .. I am panicing .. hope you understand.
thanks in advance
Martin
The good thing about NVC, unlike USCIS, is their "automated system". They do not contact anyone via POSTAL mail unless opted in..everything is via email. Email is the preferred means of communication. You will remain a step ahead, if periodically log into their bill pay system or call their AVR and even talk to customer service to b up-to-date with your status. I've learned so far that the NVC process is straightforward as long as you follow the instructions in LingChi's shortcut...
Hope you have a good journey...Good luck
Thank you ashlesha! Wish you good luck with your processing as well.

You can get some other movement whilst yer in India - but ya gotta be diligent and pay attention.
If you paid the 70 AOS Fee, then you got a chance to sign up for the payment portal.
Pay the AOS fee, and then monitor the payment portal.
When it shows PAID, print the receipt, send the cover letter (with barcode ) with the receipt and the I-864 package IN TO NVC.
Then, check the payment portal again - when the IV fee is available to be paid, pay it online.
In a few days after paying, you'll see it 'paid' - get the receipt and cover letter, send in the DS-230 with the receipt and cover letter, IN to NVC.
Those are the highlights - you might want to review a longish 'how-to' over at http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/...he_NVC_ShortCut and make your plan of attack. It doesn't matter WHERE in the world the USC is to mail in this stuff, as long as it gets mailed. Heck - if you left all the stuff with your friend stateside, HE could mail it in on your behalf..
Really, the only issue I feel that you might have - is forgetting to bring your USA bank checkbook with you - the payment is done via electronic check.
If you brought it - hei - life is good !
Thank you Darnell.. Yes I did bring the checkbook. I paid the AOS fee, awaiting PAID status now. Thanks again for the detailed email!

I would like to add, besides sending an email for the choice of agent also send it by a normal snail mail . You may use the email template give here on the VJ.
Thank you Christeen and Saaheb.
Should my wife put herself as the agent and direct all the NVC communication to India?
thanks again
Martin
If you put the USC as the agent, both of you will get e-mails (make sure they have your e-mails)... If you only put the beneficerary, then only she will get them... Since you will be over there with her, no biggie... I never got ANYTHING in the regular mail system from NVC??
Thanks a lot Christeen.. Really appreciate your time.

in Bringing Family Members of US Citizens to America
Posted · Edited by Martin09
Dear all,
I am trying to file I130 for my brother who is living and working in UAE.
Under I-130, there are two column where I need to include Brother's address.
C2 (Address of your relative) and C19 (Your relative's address abroad),
Should I put UAE address at both places.
Our parents are in India. Should I use Parent's address under C2?
Please help me. Thanks a bunch in advance.
Martin.
