Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the social security office was supposed to issue you a number at the time of application? The office I went to today refused to do that. They said they have no way of knowing what card number would be assigned, and that I'd have to wait 10 days for the physical card, with the number to be issued. Am I wrong to think otherwise?
Unfortunately, they are right. You will get it in the mail very soon.

Thanks for the suggestion, I didn't know about this. Anyway, did some research on it after your post but I found many forums saying that USCIS has become more reluctant lately to give this stamp after AOS interviews. How do I show urgent need for the stamp?
You could take your tickets and all travel documents to show that you have a flight to catch. They are reluctant to give the stamps but if there is a clear "emergency" travel, I'm sure a supervisor can make the call and give you a stamp. Good luck and keep us posted how it goes.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It will help others who are about to use those documents to relax during their travels.

thanks.
Yeah.. I figured it out after all... You're right, I think it was the wrong postage amount. But it wasn't our fault! They weighed and charged us that amount and after all the delivery they made, they send it back just because it needs 3.73 additional?! That's nuts! It costs them more returning back to me, I think. It's their error not ours! tsk.. tsk.. terrible service. Now, we just wasted few days.
Thats USPS for you. No wonder they are running at a deficit. Take a package all the way to VT and fly it back to the sender for less than $4? Really? Good luck with the rest of your journey.

Hi
I am so frustrated right now and I need some help.
Here is my scenario:
I entered US on K1 visa, got married in Sept, filled for AOS, got my EAD yesterday, and went to local Social security office to apply for SSN.
Very rude clerk said that I have to wait 30 days to apply for SSN????
When I asked why, she said - so that Department of homeland security can check everything, that is standard procedure. !!!
Is this true??
(my office is in Massachusetts)
If this is not true how am I supposed to prove to her that she is wrong??
If anyone has any advace, you` re more than welcome.
Thanx
Ask to speak with a supervisor or go to a different clerk who knows what she/he is doing. I got mine the next day after getting my EAD

Hello everyone . From the tittle it's clear what i asked
I filled out a "b2" visa to go visit my wife . cuz her work doesn't allow her to have any vaccation this year cuz she took 1 month And 2 weeks wich is not normal in the USA O.o
We applied for a "Cr1" and a "K3" Visa but they both take so long to get process . It's our first year from marriage we didn't have our honeymoon yet so my wife offer me to apply for visitor visa and come to her to pass our honeymoon and see each other for awhile
My question is does anyone did that from before and what i need for the interview ?? I have interview on 22,february
Is it bad that we did that .?? can anyone tell me if it's normal or not . THank u so much
Unfortunately, your pending applications are for you to permanently move to the U.S.A. That is the strongest show of intent to migrate. It still will not hurt to go for the B2 visa interview but to be honest, chances of getting approved is extremely low. Good luck and hope u are an exception.

I appreciate the quick response... thanks!
Not sure it changes anything, but I applied based on the 3 year marriage to a USC rule.
You have reached the point where you are "on your own" so you being married to a USC has no basis. So long as you are still married, there's nothing they need from him. My spouse didn't come to my interview but came to my swearing ceremony.

Congratulations on completing this long and tedious journey.

Hi all,
I have my interview the second week in January and my husband has some work related travel he may not be able to get out of. Can anyone confirm if he is needed during my interview or can I go by myself without it having a negative impact on my case.
Thanks!
No the USC spouse is not required to be present. Most spouses attend just to take pictures if you are at a service office that does same day oath. He does not have to skip work for your interview. They will call your name only which means he will not be allowed at the IO's desk. Good luck.

Hello fellow VJ'rs.
I have a question. We filed for ROC for my wife and her two kids on the same form. I received an email saying that my wife case, the one given to her in her biometrics notice, had been approved and her card had been ordered. However when I check the cade numbers assigned to the kids in the biometrics notices they still appear as pending.
will I get the three cards at once? It does not make too much sense to me they approve my wife and not the kids.
Please advise
Thanks
Your wife's approval goes along with the kids so don't freak out.

if I'm not mistaken, you could enter the USA with your Naturalization Certificate
That is absolutelt false. The OP will need a valid U.S passport to come back if he plans on entering as a U.S citizen. A naturalization certificate won't cut it.

You aunt essentially abandoned her permanent residency. Unfortunately, she will have to start from scratch.

Hi all,
I am needing some help with the wording on this question.
Are you a male who lived in the united states at any time between your 18th and 26th birthdays in any status except as a lawful non-immigrant.
I entered in 2009 (aged 21) on CR1 marriage visa with a 2 year conditional GC, and got my 10 year GC last year. I am registered with the selective service, what should I answer to the above question, yes or no?
I'm thinking yes because I am a lawful immigrant, can someone confirm this for me?
You lived a period in the U.S between 18 (21yrs) and 26 when you werent a LPR so you have to tell them what status u entered the U.S and answer YES or get a written statement about your selective service registration. That's what I did.

My thought - you not give this friend enough beer over the last 3 years.
Why I say this?
This is a beer-favor. What he's written tells me you not give up enough beer for the favor.
We need humor sometimes. Good job. But to answer the OP, affidavits don't have to be elaborate. The person just has to say they know you are married to your spouse.

Like other forumers have advised, you guys should start joining accounts so you don't get caught off guard in the unpleasant case of USCIS sending a RFE. Simple things like Phone bills, cable, joint checking, christmas cards addressed to Mr & Mrs, even gym membership. Youi know, everyday things that most married couple share. Good luck and hope you don't get RFE.

Thank you so much you're making me feel better. Yes I have my bio letter appointment with me now I am so glad it came today. Our local office is not very busy so I may have a big chance. They will open at 8am and we will be there when they open.Fingers cross.
Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

What are the chances of my N-400 getting approved? These are the facts:
1- I am married to a USC. Have been married to the same person and kept my GC for the past 6 years.
2-I submitted N-400 as a spouse of a USC (based on the advice of a lawyer)
3-Have been in the states for more than 18 month during the past three years.
4-Have been out of the US for more than 6 months twice in the past 5 years (one more than 6 months absence in the past 3 years).
5-While abroad, I took employment overseas and didnt have a lease in USA. I never filed taxes because I made less than the amount required (have my correspondence with IRS about the matter). I kept a US bank account. I traveled back to USA between the long two trips and stayed here for about 4 months.
6-I have one absence of 366 days within the past 3 years (days of departure and arrival included). Received a transportation letter from a US consulate to come back because I didnt have my GC. I submitted my communication with the US consulate abroad with my N-400 app (I contacted the US consulate 3 months before completing a year n explained my circumstances--Not having GC handy as it wasnt issued yet. I just had a stamp in my passport that expired and airlines refused to sell tickets to me).
7- I have a rejected application for reentry permit (reason for rejection is a problem with signing the check). I didnt apply again because I had a plane to catch. My lawyer thinks that it is a good document. It shows my intention to return to USA.
8-Why did I go abroad for such long trips to begin with? My wife is a Phd student and she was doing research abroad. We are a family and wanted to be together. My wife's university gave us a letter that she was overseas for Phd research. We returned permanently to USA over a year ago. The letter clearly states that my wife's stay abroad was temporary. I looked into the exemption given to spouses of USCs affiliated with US research institutes recognized by the attorney general. Her university is listed, but she wasnt an employee! Not sure if researchers are included.
How do you think USCIS will look at this case?
Please post any questions if you need more facts.
You certainly have an interesting case. I'm sure USCIS have seen similar cases. Do you have plans of leaving the US for long periods of time again? If not why not wait to meet the continued residency requirement and file. That way you don't have to worry about a thing? Good luck

Hello to all. I'm helping someone with the N-400 process. Then she hit me with it. Back in 1988 this girl thought that since she's married that she's automatically a US citizen. So while living in PA she applied for a gun carry permit and received it as a US citizen even though she was still a legal resident. It has since expired on 02/2013. I normally don't get stuck but this one threw me for a loop. PA does issue carry permits to legal residents which she has been since she was nine. Should she try to fix this with the state or in Section 10 just check yes and offer an explanation. I'm worried about that one. As far as I know she never applied for work as a US citizen.
Thanks in advance!!!
The only way she could have accidentally claimed to be a US citizen was if she was a child. Applying for a gun permit means she was an adult and the IO will think she most likely knew what she was doing. The IO will expect adults to know if they are a US citizen or not. This is a sticky situation. Unless she absolutely has to be a US citizen for some reason, maybe she should thread on safe grounds and stay as a LPR. I want to believe falsely claiming to be a US citizen is NOT a forgivable offense as far as USCIS are concerned. Maybe others have experienced where it worked and may chime in. Good luck to your friend. Hope it works out for her.

For first time applicants after naturalization, do they deny passport with a little older photographs ? Does the photo has to be exactly taken within six months ?
Do they try to match it with some older applications ?
Do you look significantly different from the picture? If you have to question it, you probably shouldn't use it. Play it safe and give them a new accurate passport picture so you don't have to lose sleep over this. Good luck.

I need some help guys,
My wife is getting her citzenship here soon. She will be applying for dual citzenship of the philippines(how long does the dual take to get)
She wants to go back to finish her studies as BSN in Nursing. How long can she stay in the phippines on the us passport with having dual without coming back here or does she have to enter to keep it.
Please let me know guys
thanks
Jose and Helen
She can stay as long as needed in the Philippines for her studies. U S citizens don't have to worry about being out of the country for too long.

I got married April 2011 and got my conditional GC June 2011. Do I file for citizenship after 3 years of marriage or 3 years since I got my green card? Just curious if I apply in April or June of next year. Just being excited even though I'm only starting ROC this month. Thanks everyone!
I believe You have to be married for 3 years to file.

Bring your spouse. Even though he won't be invited for the interview, the IO expects to see him in the waiting room. People have been denied or delayed for not having the spouse present.
Are you sure about that? Being denied for not bringing a spouse when that wasn't required seem odd to me.

I haven't updated my status with Social Security as yet. Do I just call them, or would I be required to go in?
And yes...vacation already booked
Unfortunately you will have to go there with your passport or certificate. They will need the original to make a copy of and give it right back. You will recieve a new social security card (same number) in about a week without the stamped notation preventing employment. It's also a good idea to have it updated for social security benefits in the future.

Hi All,
Completed my N 400 journey, and received my passport. I was wondering if there is anything else I need to do?
Nope. You've come to the end of the road. Have u updated your status with social security admin? Besides that, you don't have to do anything else besides go on vacation with your new passport

It took them 10 days to cash mine. Don't worry USCIS will be more than happy to cash that check. Good luck on your journey and keep us posted.
