  1. what about drivers and ssn not matching greencard

im going to apply for cdn passport with married name cost 102 cdn

then i will work on greencard for 450 or should i wait till the 2 year mark for greencard

just afraid all my id will show married name but greencard shows maiden name

i am going to send all documents to my mother in canada and also a written letter giving permission for her to file on my behalf along with certified copies of all documents

  2. My wife's passport and her greencard don't match, she hasn't had any problems (so far).

If you don't mind spending the fee to file I90, no reason you can't do it now.

I think the best bet for the CDN passport is mail the application with certified copies of original documents (marriage cert, etc). I'm not 100% sure you can get back into the US with just your greencard so that rules out applying in person for the CND passport since you have to surrender your old one when applying for a new one.

  3. My wife's Green-card is married name, passport is maiden name, having GC and Passport not match is not a problem for travel

Also what's with the all CAPITAL LETTERS? All capitals is SHOUTING!!

oh sorry i was filling out a form that had to be caps forgot to take cap lock off

  4. Take your marriage cert and apply for a new SSN card in your married name

Apply for a driver's license in your married name

File form I-90 to update your greencard (note this costs $450)

Update any other accounts you have

If you have a conditional greencard you might want to wait until you file for ROC (I-751) and apply for that in your married name instead of doing I-90 now.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH

ALSO WHAT ABOUT MY CANADIAN PASSPORT

YES MY GREEN CARD I GOT IS A CONDITIONAL ONE IT EXPIRES 2 YEARS FROM TIME ISSUE

SO SHOULD I APPLY FOR MARRIED NAME NOW AS I AM WANTING TO CHANGE ALL MY ID TO MARRIED NAME

JUST SCARED THAT MY GREENCARD WONT MATCH ALL OTHER ID AND I MIGHT GET DENIED INTO USA IF I TRAVEL OUTSIDE OF USA

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR INFO

IM GONNA GO DOWN TODAY AND CHANGE MY SSN AND DRIVERS TO MARRIED NAME

ASLONG AS IT WONT GET ME KICKED OUT OR IN TROUBLE IN USA

  5. hello

can anyone tell me how i would go about to change my last name now to married last name

all my usa immigration papers and PRC is in maiden name as at the time of applying my canadian passport was my maiden name

now i want to start process of changing to married last name i now am living in USA

thank you for all your help

  6. I haven't been on VJ in a long time but I have a problem and thought maybe someone could help me.

I need to renew my Canadian Passport. I've been living in the USA for 5 yrs now ( have a valid Green card.) My passport expired 4 yrs ago. I haven't been back to Canada since 2006 and I need to go home A.S.A.P. to visit my Dad who is in the hospital.(He had a stroke) I filled out all the paperwork, and got the photos done but I have an issue with the Guarantor part of the application. It says they need to be a Canadian Citizen with a valid passport that has known me at least 2 yrs. They can be residing in Canada or the USA. But the problem is I don't know any Canadians residing here in Utah! I know of one Canadian who lives in Washington but she hasn't seen me physically in 5 yrs though we talk daily. What am I supposed to do? I had also read that the Guarntar had to be a doctor, lawyer, Chiropractor or Veterinarian. She isn't any of those things! I need to get home to see my Dad!!! Please Help if you can!!!?

it can be a family member now

    they changed that law

  7. When you go through a Removal of Conditions (citizenship) swear-in for the US, you do not lose your ties to Canada as a Canadian Citizen (if you are one). Therefore, you hold a dual-citizenship. There's no paperwork involved to "get" dual citizenship - you only lose Canadian citizenship if you file paperwork specifically for that purpose - papers dealing with the Canadian government, not US.

how do i go about doing that

    being dual citizen

    canada and usa

i want to be a dual citizen

What exactly do you want to know? How one becomes a "dual" citizen? Pros and cons of it?

    yes how to become

if there is a wait i have to have

    pros and cons

i am a canadian citizen and want to be dual citizen canada and usa

  8. quite simple---90 DAYS prior to the Expirary date on ur GREENCARD (nothing to do with wedding anniversary date)opens up the window where you filer the I-751. Just do it within that 90 days window! Keep track of time spent outside the USA of 24 hrs or longer as you need to jot that down! And if u apply for citizenship down the road, they want that info too!

how do i file for usa citizenship and should i be doing this now also what happens if my canadian passport expires?? i have not left usa since i got here toooo scared to leave here

  9. I want to wish y'all a very happy new year

may all your wishes come true

may your new year be blessed with health, happiness, peace, wealth and LOVE

for y'all still waiting I wish for you a speedy process as i know how it feels I waited for a year n half to get to usa just from canada. keep smiling keep praying most of all dont give up

    good bye 2010 and hello 2011 :thumbs::dance::rofl::luv::PB-)(F)(F)(F)

  10. hello can anyone tell me

when my husband sponsored me and my children to usa he had to prove his income which he did and no problem

now that we are here and got 2 year green cards and ssn and i am working for the state

does my husband still have to prove his income at all

will we be deported if his income is less now (sold his company) income is much less

how does that part of immigration process work

please any info would be helpful

thank you all so very much

i dont know what i would do without this site

  11. hello all

Well I am finally living here in USA been here since aug 22

i got my green card for myself and children and SSN

the green cards expire in 2 years

what should i be doing next

what is my nextstep in this immigration process as i dont want the green card to expire and be shipped back to canada

please let me know anything i should be doing

    thank you

  12. 1) what was the USA addy on ur paperwork?? If its the same, then you do not have to change it. Green card "should" arrive within about a month! One usually get 1 and quite often 2 or 3 "Welcome to the USA" letters just prior to Greencard arriving

    2) SSN: If after 10-14 BUSINESS days, no SSN, then simply head to ur local SSN with CDn passport, birth cert and ask about it! Quite often, 1 has to reapply, SOOOO goto http://ssa.gov/ssnumber/?h download the form and complete it prior to going to the office, so when they say ur not in the system, u simply hand over the already filled out form! SSN offices tend to be busy, so best to get there a bit before they open! After I went and applied at office, SSN came in mail 1 week later!

    3) you can legally work right now!! They may not be able to pay you until u get ur SSN, but ur legally able to work! A few here on here have been hired, and they just had to wait till they got their SSN to get paid!

    4) If you qualify, do not for get about CDN EI, since ur legally able to work, your able to collect it from the on start, minus that 2 week thingy. So apply ASAP

    5) No clue for texas, but here in VA I simply took my Passport with VISa and exchanged my CDN DL for a VA 1! Simple as that no testing at all. BUT each state differs

    6) No you do NOT have to go back to POE if Greencard doesant show up! There is a 1800 # u can call, but so many days has to go by, before they do anything! The Visa in ur passport is good for 1 yr!!

thank you soooo much you are very helpful

the address for greencard was where my husband used to live but he moved to our own place now

can i call some where to change the address for greeencard to be mailed to

also my greencard is coming in maiden name i believe cause that what i had to use i was told because my canadian passport was maiden name it had on my visa package that my alias was my married name

i want to change all my ID to married name

how will that work if my passport is maiden name and greencard comes in maiden name

i really want to use my married name

    thanks

  13. well i finally made it to USA

POE took a bit long but that was due to fact i was the guys first visa case just my luck LOL and i had 3 visa for him to process, but all in all I made IT

Now what happens will they mail my greencard and what happens if i change my address of where i am living now is there someone i should call so they can do change of address before they send out card or should i wait and get it then send for changed address

  15. Smurfette1971... I called DOS today, and my visa got approved and printed. Now I'm just waiting for the passport to come. Did you get your passport yet? I'm also trying to get into the US under parole as I write this because my Fiancee is in labor with my twins right now. This month is just awesome, just like some folks said on here.

    :)

im leaving tomorrow to texas for summer

good luck to you and your wife and NEW TWINS...WOW GREAT NEWS!!!!

  16. Hey! I just came to the US yesterday to pick up my fiance returning from overseas (he was delayed until tomorrow, sad face)... anyways, I have ZERO ties to Canada (ie not working, don't hav my own place) and had absolutely no problem crossing the border by land. I think the most important thing is to understand you KNOW you are not doing anything wrong and to just give short, informative answers when they ask questions. I had tons of papers showing that I owned my car and the payments I have left on it, my old work contract and final review showing I left on good terms and am not working because I'll be moving soon anyways, all my bank records showing I can afford to support myself here, hotel reservation, photocopies of my petition and ever single piece of ID you could think of. It was actually almost TOO easy! She didn't ask me where I worked or how long I'd be staying for. She was more concerned about why I have a current visa to work in the middle east.

I have never ever had a problem crossing the border by land and I think as long as you stay positive, polite and straight forward you'll be fine.

    Good luck!

    T

    wow sounds easy

    thanks

  17. My flag is my misdemeanor charge back in 2000 that was just silly in any case and all i ended up with was a record that was pardon, since pardons don't mean zippo to US I had to admit to it and which is what made them ask for more documents that no government, court, lawyers, police have for me to provide. So, I'm waiting 11 week to possibly hear that what I got which are letters with explanation might not be enough.

The phone call you missed was it just from Montreal city or you know it was from the embassy ?
