  1. Hi all,

I thought I would update you. I had a very long oath ceremony (waiting for people that were late) but I did get my naturalization certificate. They made a specific announcement that since I am now a US citizen (yay) that you must travel with a US passport. you CANNOT travel with your other passport with a US naturalization certificate. i think there is a HUGE fine. like either hundreds or maybe even thousands of bucks. regardless, I could not risk it. I had my oath on a Wednesday, got all my docs together and found a great place that did expedited passports in 24 hours (look on yelp!) . I was still so nervous, but I got my passport today (Thursday). This CAN happen, but please oh please remember that you have to get your US passport after oath ceremony.

I also want to say that I did not use a lawyer once during this whole process. After 4 hard years of doing a TON of research on Visa Journey, I can say that I now am a naturalized citizen with my US passport. All I have to do now is go to social security to change my status.

Thank you everyone! and thank you Visa Journey. What an amazing site. Really!!!!

  2. Hi all,

I don't know why I thought I would be able to travel with my Canadian passport after my oath ceremony. I even wrote that I would be traveling outside of the country over Christmas in my interview, and I got my oath ceremony appointment for tomorrow, 12/18. I don't leave until the 24th, and then when I was doing further research, I saw that I need a US passport to travel to a foreign country. This means, that I will need to get a passport between tomorrow, and the 24th which will probably be a holiday. On top of that, I am starting to see that one is supposed to notify (in person) to Social Security that there is a status change. Can I do this after i get my passport? i know this is crazy becuase I am due for my oath tomorrow morning at 8:30am but if anyone can help, please do!

    Thanks,

    Sincerely,

    freaked out person!

  3. Hi all,

A few questions about the Naturalization checklist:

-When it says to provide "All passports and travel documents (including expired and current) issued to you by any government," does this mean I need to get access to my old passports? I think my first one was when I was 6. I only have 2 passports with me. One with my original visa stamped inside, and my current one. Is this sufficient? What do they mean by travel documents? Did you include flight info when traveling abroad?

-What does it mean by "your current marriage certificate registered by a civil authority"? Is this just my marriage certificate plus translation?

-For "original IRS form 1722 listing ta info or copies of the income tax forms you filed for the past 3 years, are copies of 1040 forms for each tax year good enough? Has anyone's IRS 1722 forms didn't make it to their house prior to the interview? were you OK?

-What are samples of marital union and proof of residence? Isn't the marriage certificate and green card enough? did you include old versions of affidavits? Insurance?

Did anyone include any photos or anything else?

    Any help would be great!!!

Also, anyone know how many questions you need correct to pass the citizenship test based on the 100 questions?

    Thanks in advance to all!

  4. Hi all,

I just did my biometrics, and had to do it early as my original date for my biometrics was while I was away. I was able to do a walk-in for my biometrics early, but am worried that I will receive my interview prior to me coming back on my trip. I did my biometrics today, and am scheduled to come back around the beginning of the 2nd week of Sept. Will I be safe? I took a look at the N400 timelines, and while most seemed to be 1.5 months to up to 6 months even, I thought I saw a couple that only had 21 days or 11 days in between the biometrics date and the interview date.

I also saw online, that some people said that once you receive letter for the interview (after biometrics), it shouldn't be less than 30 days from receiving the letter for the interview in which case I would be okay. Is this true? And if not, can people change their interview date?

    Any info would be great.

    Thanks!

  5. Hi all

I just got my letter for the biometrics for the N400 application. I unfortunately booked a trip and will get back 2 days after my biometrics appointment. My trip unfortunately cannot be changed. I took a look on the web and see that some people have just gone in and walked in early. My appointment is the beginning of the 2nd week of Sept. at the 60th street Brooklyn office. has Anyone had Ny luck doing walk ins at the Brooklyn 60th street location? If so, did they give you a hard time? Better to go first thing or later? Or should I just return the letter for request for change of date? I am hoping to get this process done as quickly as possible. Is 17 days early too early? Are they open on Saturdays? Any advice would be great. Thanks!

  6. Thanks for all these tips. Yes - I was doing a lot of travel, so if I put my employment outside the US and all my trips outside the US, I would have to do a lot of backsearching..

Another question because you are all so helpful! - I am going to Canada from the 26th of May to June 10th but plan on submitting my application by post on May 25th. Should I include this trip on my application or tell them after since i am technically leaving before I have actually submitted?

  7. Hi all,

I am married to a US citizen and am applying under the 3 year term for N400. The application everywhere says to put in your last 5 years of residence, your last 5 years of employment, and your last 5 years of places you have been outside the states. Do I put it down for all 5 years even though I have only been in the US for 3 years? I did a lot of traveling to various countries within the 5 years but before I came to the US, and lived in a bunch of places, and also was working in another country prior to coming to America. Did you write down all this info, or did you add a note that you were not in the US?

  8. In the guide and the application for N400, it states: "Time as a Resident in aUSCIS District or State:Most people must live in the USCIS district or State in which they are
applying for at least 3 months beforeapplying."
Does this include trips outside of your state, or abroad during those three months for less than 3 weeks? I still was renting my apartment and had no intention of leaving or moving.
