  1. Hello everyone.

I really need your help. I know I might find the answer I'm looking for if I do a search but there's too much going on and I want to make sure that I get the right info. I got married back in 2009, and moved to America 2 years ago, I got a green card lasting another 8 years. I just finalized the divorce papers, because it didn't work out. Now I am pregnant and I would love to move back to Norway for a bit so my mother can meet the baby once it arrives. So what happens when I move? What happens with my papers my visa and my status? If I move back let's say for a year, can I still move back to America and continue with my life and use the same green card ssn and etc? I would think it's not a problem since it would all still be valid, but I really need your input on this. Since I'm from Norway the rules might be different than with other countries. I don't know. I just found out I'm pregnant and I'm sort of freaking out. I appreciate all the help!!!

  2. OKay Thanks!

But I am still a tiny confused!

So if I update my name in the divorce, I don't have to update my name on my green card until the renewing of the green card? And what about my passport and my bank cards and SSC? If all of them has my old name, won't it be a problem , when I travel, move, apply for loans etc, when everything has my old name? What about if I change my name back, do I need to change my drivers licence to new name? What in theory do I need to change my name on? I thought that if I changed my name back, I would HAVE to change my VISA name and my SSC and drivers licence as well. I don't want it to become a problem in the future.

Are you sure that if I change my name in my divorce, I don't have to change it any where else? Not on USCIS website, not at the DMW, not at my bank and not at the social security office? My passport still has the name i got when I married as well. What should I do with that?

I appreciate your help. How do you know all this?lol

    Thanks!

  3. Thanks Caryh!

So if I got this right, If I don't change my name now, I will still have to change in court later and pay a fee, and I will use the paper from court as proof of name change so I can change name on green card later, right? But I don't need to tell USCIS that I am divorced? And the name change can happen any time during the years I have legal residence on my visa?

And it will still cost $450 even if I renew my visa?

    Thanks!!

  4. Divorce DIY, meaning what? On a website it says: "We are not attorneys and are prohibited by law from giving any legal advice. We cannot give you instructions on filing your divorce or answer any questions on the accuracy of your papers or how to present your case to the judge. If you intend to represent yourself Apro se@, without the assistance of an attorney, you must have the knowledge to prepare and file the proper pleadings and present your case to the court. We advise you to consult an attorney if you have any questions or are unsure as to what you need to do."

So what do I do? Do I have to have a lawyer?

  5. Hello everyone,

This is kind of an embarrassing topic, but I need to figure this out. I am married to an American, and I got married in Norway, my home country back in 2009. How is the rules about divorcing and such? We live in Texas, and I have a permanent residence card for 10 years. Will that affect my status? I really appreciate everything you guys will be able to help me with!

    Thank you so much!

  6. I got an I-797C (NOA) dated 4 days after my POE. The notice type is 'Welcome Notice'. It was issued by the Texas Service Center and basically says that they have received my packet from the POE and that I should hear from them within 30 days. They give a Customer Service number: 800-375-5283. If you call you will probably need your A number which should be on the visa stamp in your passport - your Registration Number (although there is an additional 0 at the front of my A number).

    Good luck.

Thanks ! I called them, and they actually had sent it to me but they didn't have my apartment number, so he will correct it, and I get it within this month! :D yay!

  9. why not wait until you get citizenship (if you're married it only takes 3 years since the CGC)?

Hi! I want to keep my Norwegian citizenship! :)

    See Here.

LPR Status is for someone who intends to live permanently in the US not hop back and forth between 2 countries.

If you spend too much time out of the US you will lose your LPR Status.

If you wait until you Naturalize then you're free to country hop all you want as long as you remember to file US Taxes.

LPR? When will I be naturalized? thanks for the help!

There is no dual citizenship for Norway:( Only for her kids if the father is USC. There's more info at www.udi.no.

OP: You should look into if you are still a member of Folketrygden. If you live abroad and don't pay taxes to Norway for more than 12 months you lose membership unless you apply to still be a member and pay a fee. This means that you don't get free health care if you live in the US and only visit Norway for short periods. Although they have recently decided that even illegal refugees should not have to pay for labour and delivery in hospitals, so it will probably work out fine.

    Hei!

yes, I just wanted my first child to be born there, so that the child could have dual, and then after a year or less move back, but I dont know if that will be difficult? im not a member of folketrygden anymore, but I will get back in it after I move, you know, so i can get the Norwegian benefits..

  10. Hey people!

I just decided to use this forum to ask about some immigration stuff that's been bothering me... I just recently immigrated to America.. So why move back, right? lol.. Well I was hoping to have my kids born there, and then immigrate back to America. I have a 10 yr green card, so what happens if I go back? Is there any rules? Will I "lose" my permits, and green card, or can I move back and fourth as many times as I want? If you have any links, just post them as well! THANK YOU!!!! :D :D

    Cheers,

    Ine
