  1. Hi everyone, I have been trying to follow along with everyone's posts but really haven't had a chance to reply. Congrats on so many of you getting your Visa's and good luck to those of you with interviews and POE's coming up! I look forward to hearing how everyone does, and how everyone is enjoying being with their significant others. I know how happy I am to finally be in Tampa with my man :)

I figured I would try to give you a bit of information about SSN's and EAD. As a K1 visa holder you are allowed to apply for a SSN, but wait it does say to wait 2 weeks so you are registered in the system. All I had to bring was my visa, passport and birth certificate. It took about a week to get my card in the mail and my SSN says right on it "Valid only with work authorization" So even though I have the card, I still had to apply for EAD (Form I765) so I can work. I applied for it with my AOS and AP travel document after we married. I am hoping it doesn't take too long to get that because I am going a bit stir crazy here. After you apply for your EAD you get a letter in the mail for a biometrics appointment, they fingerprint you, take your picture, and then they will send you an employment authorization card in..who knows how long! I guess if you get the EAD stamp in the passport right away, then you will still just need to apply for a SSN to work, although I am not sure how long the EAD stamp is valid for and you may need to apply again once you adjust status.

I hope this helps with any confusion!

  2. Hi everyone, I have a question about the medical exam requirement for filing for AOS. I entered as a K1 visa holder and had a full medical at home before I got my visa. I sent with my I485 the vaccination document that they gave me at the medical since I had submitted my full medical to the border. I just got an RFE in the mail saying that I need to submit a "properly completed and signed copy of the medical exam conducted overseas on form DS-2053, Medical Examination for Immigrant or Refugee Applicant".

On the instructions for the I485 it says since I entered as k1 fiance, I only need to submit a vaccination supplement not the entire medical report so I figured that the form I submitted would be good enough to show that.

Does the RFE mean that I have to go do another medical even though I already paid $350 for the first one? What did everyone else do in order to show they had the proper medical done already??

    Please help!!!

  3. Wow it has been a long time since I have posted on here. I am writing from Florida as my visa was approved last Monday and picked up on Wednesday. I have been trying to keep up with everyones posts in the last little while but it was hard to sit down and follow since I have been so busy with packing, leaving my work, my family and my friends, and finally moving to the states. This experience has been so overwhelming and emotional but as we all know the end result is worth it :). I am going to try to get on here more to try and give a bit more support for those of you still waiting for your loved ones.

I am happy to see a bunch of you with interview dates and even a few approvals! I also hope that Montreal hurries up and fires out some interview dates for those of you waiting there.

I look forward to hearing everyones interview results and wedding plans and again I am sorry for my absence in the last little while.

  4. I don't think you need the DS-160 for Vancouver. It never asked for it on the checklist so I didn't send it in ( I really don't think it is required for the K1 visa in Vancouver yet, I have seen other people say this too) I know my police certificate only took one day to get, and the birth certificate came within a week, so I would just send back your checklist now with your DS-230 part I and get an interview date. I booked my medical as soon as I got my packet 3 in the mail too. Good luck!

  5. I use pennytalk.com to call my fiance in Florida from Vancouver. It costs about 1 cent a minute (plus a connection fee) but you can renew it online and it lasts forever. It has saved me a TON of money. It gives a record of every call made to him and the duration that you can print out.
