  1. Jeff and I got out around 930ish. Since you got in late, did you spend most of the day there? Or was it just an hour or two?

    Assuming you got approved, congrats!!

And yes, I have to agree... this website was so helpful through this entire process.

Thanks, I did get approved ;-) Just 2.5 hours and the preliminaries and interview were quick (only the waiting to be called was long), I even got out before CR1 people who were ahead of me in priority number. I thought they would give me a hard time about my baby. I've heard horror stories about passports being withheld pending CRBA and US passport for baby. We did apply for both but they had not arrived in time for my interview. They just asked for birth certificate which I did not bring but the interviewer said it was fine. So, fun times ahead with packing ;-)

  2. We're actually coming from Repentigny, Quebec which is about 20 minutes north of Montreal. We got lucky in living close. I took off the 6th and 7th so I can drive up from New Hampshire. Jeff already scheduled his medical for Monday December 13th with Medisys. We wanted to get it done early in case there were any issues. Since he lives so close, we don't have to worry about getting it done in a single trip. I'm still thinking about getting a hotel for the night of the 6th close to the Consulate, mostly because I don't want to deal with the insane morning commute trying to get into Montreal on the 40.

It's awesome that there are already three of us scheduled for the 7th! See you both there!!

Oh, you guys are lucky! Hubby and I are just an hour away from each other here, but Montreal is so far for us. The plane fare is so expensive! But I guess he'll have to go with me as I can't leave a breastfeeding 2-month old baby (by then)for 2-3 days. I wonder if we can take the baby inside the embassy ;-)

    See you then! ;-)

  3. WOO HOOO Congrats to everyone who got interviews!!! I thought they had given up on scheduling for the rest of December. That's awesome news!! Hopefully this means all the June people are all set and scheduled!!!

    YAY!!! :D

    J-

PS - I just looked at the spreadsheet, and it looks like some July people got dates in December too!!! That's even better. Maybe this is a sign, albeit small, that they are starting to dig out of their backlog just a little bit!

Yey!!! We're next!!! Hopefully, we'll have an early January!

  4. Hi All!

NVC just completed our case and we're waiting for an interview date. I am 24 weeks pregnant due on November 26. I'm worried about the medical exam because I haven't had the Tdap vaccine, I think I've had the MMR and I'm exempt from the Varicella one. We have quite a few concerns:

    1) How do we speed up the interview? We would prefer to be interviewed by mid-October at most because it's difficult to fly (to Montreal)while pregnant.

    2) The panel physician's website here in Vancouver says that the Tdap vaccine is required as it is not contraindicated for pregnancy. But my husband, who's a US doctor is completely against me having it while pregnant. Does this mean that I cannot have my medical completed? And then no interview and no visa before baby is born?

3)We were planning to have the baby born in Vancouver (as it might be too late for me to get medical coverage in the US). Supposing we get the visa before the baby is born, do I need to do any paperwork regarding the baby before making my US entry?

    Thanks a lot!!!

  5. Hi!

Got married Jan 16, 2010 in the US. Went back to Canada Jan 20. Had marriage certificate 2 weeks later. Changed name on Canadian driver's license first - 7 days (need this to change name on Canadian passport) MSP card (with new name) will also do for passport name change but takes longer than the driver's license to change. Husband mailed I130 using my new name first week of Feb, NOA1 issued Feb 16. Change your name beforehand if you're changing it anyway, we think it's easier to get it over with.

  6. @ Canadian wife and trailmix: Thank you both for your replies...

I figured myself that a CR-1 would be better. The lawyer we consulted did not even mention it until I brought it up. And the only reason he's recommending K3 is that it's faster than the CR-1. As I understand, a K3 does not grant me permission to work in the U.S. After being issued a K3, I still have to file for an EAD, right? While CR1 may take longer, at least it grants me authorization to work right away. Workwise, I plan to just continue working in Canada and quit my job only when I find work in the U.S. That way, I won't be unemployed for any period of time. ;-)

As to where we're getting married, I guess it depends on my risk tolerance ;-)

As to visiting while papers are in process, I agree that it could just be a matter of who you have at the border. But if someone at the border denies you entry, does this affect your pending application?

    Thanks again...

  7. Hi!

I am Canadian with an American fiance, with me planning to eventually move to the US permanently. I live and work in Vancouver, BC while my fiance lives and works in Bellingham, WA. It is just an hour drive between us so we take turns visiting each other every weekend. The lawyer we consulted recommended 3 options: K1, One-Step Adjustment, and K3. As I did not want to be unemployed for any period while my immigration papers are being processed, it seems that our best choice would be the K3. The only hitch then would be that I may not be able to go down to the U.S. while the K3 is in process. We figured we can work with that as my husband (by then) can just drive up to Vancouver on weekends. Now, are dilemna is: where to get married? The lawyer said that we can get married either in Bellingham or Vancouver. Vancouver would be the safest bet but we had already planned for a Bellingham wedding (before we consulted the lawyer) so we'd be back to square one if we switch to Vancouver. He cautioned us though that should I get asked the "wrong question" on my entry the week we're getting married, I could be denied entry. Although, I only plan to ge married there, exit a few days after, then file for K3 and not entering the US while K3 is in process, I am also concerned about this coming back to me (preconceived intent) and affecting my K3 application. They can allege that I lied about the purpose of my last trip and on that basis, deny my K3 application. Has anyone been in this situation? Does the place of marriage really matter in a K3 application?

    thanks a lot...
