It will expire after 1 year from the date of I-130 approval, so you need to submit DS-230 before 1 year after the I-130 is approved. Hope this helps....I also replied to you in ImmigrationPortal Forum too...

After asking this question at a few forums , two possible answers emerged.

One group says that I-130 stays valid for one year.

Another group says that I-130 is valid basically idefinitely *if* one does mot proceed to the second step of the process (the one that involves NVC, DS-230, choice of the agent, visa bills, affidative of support, etc). However, once you

you filed affidative of support and the choice of the agent forms there is one year to file DS-230.

Both possibilities would be fine in my case.

P.S. Good luck to your parents at the interview in January.

The NVC will hold the approved I-130 for 12 months.. if no action has been taken at the end of the 12th month the I-130 will be deemed abandoned.

Dear all,

I would greatly appreciate your advise on the following.

What happens if I-130 is approved (for parents of a US citizen) but the parents have not gathered yet all required documents (police certificates, military records, etc)? How long I am allowed to wait after I130 approvals before I must proceed to the second step of the process (I-864, DS-3023, DS-230, visa bills) for my parents?
