  1. Not looking for how the process works, cos already brought father-in-law here on tourist visa, just trying to see if anyone has had success bringing someone younger over to the states on tourist visa, my sister-in-law is 45 has no real ties to Vietnam and no property neither, so trying to gauge if it's worth the $160 gamble?

  2. Hi Tuan,

We have applied tourist visa for my father travel to U.S in July 2012. Firstly, we wrote invitation letter for my father, then I filled out DS 160 form on U.S consulate site, made an interview appointment date for my father, and we printed out the confirmation of DS 160 and interview appointment.

After that, we filled out I-134 for sponsor and prepared some docs like tax return, W2, U. S citizen of my husband, bank acc., paycheck, employment verification.

We sent all this stuffs to VN. So my father only paid visa fee 160US$ at Citibank and waited for his interview date.

On interview date, my father was presented at U.S consulate with my sister (they let her in). CO just took my father passport and 2 receipts of visa fee (pink and yellow) and he didn't look any docs that my father brought with him, then asked my father 4 questions:

    1. How long are you going to travel U.S?

    2. Where do we live?

    3. Where does my husband do?

    4. When did I leave VN?

That's it. My father got visa after 3 days by EMS. Visa issued for a year.

    Hope this help.

  3. Has anyone purchased short term medical insurance for loved ones visiting from Vietnam. My wife's father is coming for 3 months, most plans that I've seen have high co pays. Plus so many not so good companies pushing this stuff.so if anyone out there with any advice or recommendations , it would truly help. Thanks

  4. Can someone please hand me a tissue? I'm crying.....hu ...hu....hu reading the "sacrifice" she gave up for Jim!

Jim, you're right that I'm not that old to "understand" a thing about Vietcong. That's why I take the words from the "older" generations, folks who lived and dealed with Vietcong and know the famous saying (which you said it yourself before on VJ)" Dung nghe nhung gi Cong san noi, ma hay nhin nhung gi Cong san lam" (Don't listen to what commies say, but rather watch what they do)

I wonder if you are American? How much do you know about Viet Cong? I believe that you dont dare to say this if you live in Viet Nam

  5. we just got hien oneway ticket, i checked all the us sites cheapest we found to vegas was around 880usd, so we did the footwork and went to a couple airlines, ended up at eva payed 715usd oneway, so i would certainly call the airlines when your in ho chi minh, ive come to think buying airline tickets online was always the cheapest way to go,not always true.as for us citizens allowed to consulate, seems this is the norm now, i accompanied hien, they never asked for my passport,we just showed them the appointment letter, and walked in, saw many couples,i made a point to take our bags and bags of evidence up to the window, placed it on the shelf said good morning sir to CO,and goodmorning to interepreter, then sat back down,i did this for two reasons, obviously cos the bags were heavy, but to show co i was with my wife at the consulate, also when we submitted our additional evidence before the interview hien made sure the lady took our timeline and both our 10 year residency, the lady wanted to hand them back, but hien asked please keep for co,at the time of the interview hien saw co look quickly at timeline,it seems every case is treated a little differrent, but as im sure you have read on this forum there are certain things the co seems request time and time again, anyhow good luck make sure all docs are easy accessble for co, and practice for every question scenario that may come up.

  6. thanks for all the congrats, just got hien plane ticket, thought asiana was gonna be best deal, but just for grins tried eva, better times and cheaper 715usd, asiana was 876usd with 9 hrs lay over, go figure plus cheaper than anything we could find online,so the leg work payed off, lady at eva said prices for summer go up on june 14th

  7. hien and i picked up visa today, they let us in the consulate at 2;45 we along with many waited till just after 3pm then they called hien up to window 12, the vietnemese lady gave her a little bit of a hard time saying her id pic didnt look like the passport pic, she asked for my name and address, which hien gave her, i was stood next to the window but said nothing, the lady looked at hien again then gave her the visa, not much smiling by any of the vietnemese consulate staff on this day, but mission accomplished, have visa in passport, we were there only 10 mins seemed most that i could see were getting no problems with their visa,s

  11. Hello Everyone!

My fiance does not have his Vietnam passport yet, and his interview is on April 20th. He told me that it takes 30 days for the Vietnamese government to issue a passport.

My question to you is this, should he just leave the portion that ssks about his passport information blank on the DS 156 form? Or will HCMC create problems for us?

In the Appointment packet, it says it requires an original and copy of the applicant's passport along with the other required items listed.

Will HCMC allow him to go to the interview without his passport or can we ask them to postpone our interview because he does not have his passport yet? :help: Thanks for all your input! :D

Can you ask your fiance look at this site: http://xnc.congan.com.vn/thutuc-xnc-vietnam/huongdan-thutuc/thutuc-xincapmoi/mldocument.2008-03-25.2043754509. Hope this help
