    Last Thursday I took my oath! It was such an amazing experience and it was great to be part of a 'once a year' ceremony that happens at the Las Vegas City Hall.

    To answer your original question which nobody seems to read, NO, I wouldn't hire a lawyer for this, if you want to hire someone, hire an accountant to fix your tax filing status. On a different note, don't get freaked about by members "scary" answers here, accusing you of lying and such when you and your accountant made a mistake. Chances are that even if you don't make any changes, USCIS won't even notice, but you obviously want to be on the safe side and get this corrected.

    I also would like to point out that some members here are an excellent resource of information and are very helpful with that, but they seem to only see things black/white and are quick to give some unnecessary and overly harsh answers. Most ppl come to this forum with good intentions (such as the OP on this thread) and looking for assistance, not judgment and accusations.

    Happy day! I had my interview this morning and was approved.

    The interview itself was great. I arrived 30 minutes early, but wasn't seen until about 30 minutes past my time (which was ok as I got to read for a bit and relax). When I was called in, asked to stand and confirmed my answers would be the truth under oath. I handed over my 3 UK passports, green card, ID, and evidence of selective service sign up even though it was't needed. After the IO returned from making a copy, we started going through the N400. I mentioned my speeding ticket from 2010 and he told me that it was not considered a crime and crossed it off. There was no questions regrading my divorce.

    After going over the N400, I answered 6 questions correctly, completed the speaking and written portions, and the IO confirmed he had recommended me for approval. He then asked if I was free on the 25th of this month to go to a special oath ceremony at the Las Vegas city hall that will be shown on TV! I was so excited! I was sent back to the waiting room to wait for the oath letter while another IO confirmed everything. 15 minutes later, I left with my oath letter, and the confirmation that I had passed!

    I am so so so happy. I cannot wait for the 25th. It's going to be a very special day :)

    What do you mean by "hear anything back"?

    A letter, email, status update about my case. Just cus I've been recommended for approval, doesn't mean I'm automatically approved, I can still be denied, RFEd or something else.

    They really don't do anything after the interview except place you inline for oath (sometimes) and schedule the oath.

    Have I seen people wait 2-3 months to be scheduled for an oath ceremony after being recommended for approval? Absolutely... all the time.

    The worst case I've seen was 19 months, but that was a major exception and required further action.

    I would schedule an Infopass for after it's been 4 months since your interview. You can do it sooner, but you many not get a useful response. If you've waited the 120 days and scheduled an Infopass and still have no response, then you could contact your representatives for help. That's jsut my advice.

    Agree with Nancy.

    Way to early to be worrying.

    At this point, i wouldn't even waste time calling.

    Read through some of the monthly threads... there are dozens of people on here who have waited 2 or 3 months to be scheduled for an oath or even get an inline for oath update.

    Are you saying you have seen people waiting for 2-3months to hear anything back from USCIS after they were recommended for approval?

    Had my citizenship interview on May 13th 2015, I was told by the officer and got a document saying that I was recommended for approval, haven't heard anything from USCIS since. Based on what I've seen that might happen if you haven't been recommended for approval, I haven't seen on this forum taking longer than 3 weeks after the interview to get an oath letter or something. I have a felling my case got stuck or lost somewhere, when should I make an infopass or reach out to my congressman?

    I can't really disagree with you... I can only base my answers on the experiences of others. More than one interview experience on VisaJourney stated that they were asked a question about a large amount of credit card debt. The debt didn't cause an issue but the question was along the lines of "how much do you owe on your Visa card?"

    You're right that the FBI check focuses on criminal records. has nothing to do with credit scores. However, governmental agencies can access your credit report without your consent. I don't think they would do this very often though so I found the credit card slept issue surprising too when I read it.

    I also wasn't implying that they got the rental information from the credit report... just that they apparently have access to financial information. No idea why else they would ask people about rent or credit card debt other than to cross check information.

    So it's all second hand information but that's what interview experiences are for. What you say may be true, but I don't know why the posters (about 2 or 3 different cases I've read) who wrote about being asked those questions would have made it up.

    Glad we agree, last thing I want is for people to read this and start thinking that USCIS have access to our credit report, there is already a lot of misinformation out there, specially when it comes to credit reports.

    One thing that I just remembered is that he asked this question while going through my N400 app and making notes on it, which makes me believe that he was actually acquiring this information and not verifying against anything.

    Sounds like an identity check question.

    Sometimes the interviewer will ask a question to check that you are who you say you are. I would have the thought that the drivers license and the pasaport were enough proof, but they do ask these ID questions sometimes. The interviewer (depending on field office) might have your credit report on hand, so financial questions are an easy way to check, because they aren't part of the applocation and an imposter would not have memorized the answers. My guess is that some people at some pint have tried to get others to take the test for them.

    I know that they used to fingerprint (optically) everyone when they showed up for their interviews... do they still do that?

    I find it almost impossible to believe that they might have a copy of your credit report unless you provided one, not only credit reports do not contain any rental information but they are provided by private corporations which would required your consent to have your credit pulled.

    FBI background checks do not contain any credit information, they are strictly for the purpose of criminal information.

    Did you visit the Chula Vista office or the downtown one ?

    I had my interview at the Chula Vista office and that was the first question they asked me "how much rent do i pay" .....

    When did you file your n400 ?

    Arrived 5min before the scheduled time, checked in and waited less than 2min to get called in, there were no more than 4 people waiting with me in the room. Interviewer was an older gentleman (50s I think), he was not rude but wasn't in a great mood, just going through the motions of a tedious job. I was able to hear parts of the conversation of another interview in a different office and the interviewer sounded a lot more cheerful and relaxed.

    He started by the paperwork, took my passport, ID and green card, asked a weird question as how much I paid for rent and if I lived alone, everything else was pretty standard as he was going through my application. It took him probably 15-20min to work on the paperwork. I signed all the paperwork and he moved on to the testing, he started by asking me to read a question and writing down the answer he dictated, 3 words sentence. Then I got my civics questions: What's the name of the ocean on the East coast? How many senators in the senate? Name a state bordering Mexico? What's the age range for selective service? What's the capital of the US? Name a senator of your state?

    I believe I got them all correct because he only did those 6 questions. He then did some more quick computer work and said he was recommending me for approval to his supervisor and I should have a decision in the mail. The whole process took about 40min and not stressful at all....

    I'm hoping to get an email or letter in the mail soon with a confirmed approval! Fingers crossed!
