  1. Hi, I was scrolling through the posts and came across your situation.



    We are in a similar boat -- I already have had my GC for over 3 years, however I would like to keep my Malaysian citizenship.



    We plan to serve as missionaries in Indonesia beginning the Fall of 2015 and am trying to research ways we can still keep my GC.



    Was it easy to apply for the reentry permit? I read that if you stay out of the country for 4 out of 5 years, they will only issue you reentry permits for 1 year at a time? What was your experience?



    Would you mind sharing with me? Did you submit any documentation with the reentry permit application? When you returned to the US, what documentation did you have to show them? And how long did you have to stay in the US?



    Really appreciate any help you can give!

  2. Hi, I have a question about physical vs. mailing addresses.

    We chose to keep my husband's parents' address as our official mailing address because it is more permanent.

    However, our utility bills are in our physical residence address.

    How do I file? Will it confuse them if I show 2 different addresses on the evidences we submit?

    I saw that some people say we should submit a letter explaining why. Does anyone have a sample letter we can refer to?

  3. I have my AOS interview on March 10! Finally! :) :)

    Did you have to have your shots transcribed by a Civil Surgeon for the interview?

    Also it says, petitioner's Birth Certificate and your petitioner's evidence of United States Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident Status.

    If he has a US Birth Certificate, that takes care of both right?

    Also, I need to register my marriage with the Malaysian Embassy. What photo size will they want? Malaysian? and on blue background? Where should I go to get that?

  4. Hehehe, Yep, I got mine on July 29th too!

    So that means I must have been there the same time as the other Malaysian fiancee. ;-) I guess I saw one other girl in there... Didn't really pay attention.

    And yeah, didn't look through any of my "proof of ongoing relationship" documents and only took the required forms on the checklist. He did look through my photos and thanked me for showing them to him. haha. He was a young Asian american guy and real sweet. Just talked to me as if I was a new friend and he was just getting to know me. Relaxed and non tense!

    Another Malaysian VJ-er also got the visa approved on the 29th, but I'll wait for the person to announce it himself/herself ;)

    As for me, I got my NOA2 dated July 14th. :)

  5. Hi, yeah it takes quite a few weeks for the Letter of Good Conduct but keep calling their office and ask them to hurry. I had to call quite a few times to get them to send me a replacement to correct an error they made.

    I think the number that works is the 03-8887 4264 number. Speak to Pn. Umi.

    Thanks for that document, I might fill it out and send it to my fiance for her interview, just in case. Good luck on your interview. Coincidently, my fiance's interview is scheduled on July 29th as well.

    Also, for those of you who have been through the processed, how long does it usually take to obtain the letter of good conduct? My fiance submitted the application for that letter approximately 6-7 weeks ago and she still hasn't received it yet, we are starting to worry whether she will be able to receive before the interview? Is there anyway to expedite it? THanks

  6. Ok, so I just did my medical today and paid RM223 (includes x-ray cost). Not too bad.

    Got there early for my appointment at 10.30 and filled out the forms they had.

    You need to bring:

    ~ Passport

    ~ Visa photo

    ~ Interview appointment letter

    ~ Vaccine records (if any)

    ~ They tell you to bring RM400 (credit card not accepted)

    The Dr. was really pleasant. Only the MMR shot was required since I am over 18 and I already had chicken pox so no shot for that. They did a blood test, got a urine sample, and typical medical exam. I'll pick up my results in a weeks' time.

    Then they sent me off with a map to a different place for the X-ray.

    Getting there:

    Drs ~ I took the LRT and it was walking distance from Masjid Jamek Stop. Bangunan Ming Annex. The receptionist gives good directions.

    Xray - Star LRT Bandaraya stop, Wisma PKNS building - near Sogo (Daya X-ray Specialist Centre)

    Was easy and I got done with everything before lunch. ;-)

  7. What about vaccine requirements? I haven't gotten my Packet 4 but I got an pdf from the US Embassy in Malaysia listing vaccine requirements and there are SO many:

    Mumps, measles, rubella, polio, tetanus, diphteria

    toxoids, pertussis, influenzae B (HIB), Hepatitis B

    varicella, pneumococcal, & Influenza

    I only have records of having hepatitis shots and yellow fever shots...

    What was your medical test experience like? Did you have to get many shots? Should I try getting some shots before hand. I don't want to have to have like 20 different shots all at once!

  8. So in my packet 3, they asked my "sponsor/s" to fill out a "SPONSOR'S FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY UNDER THE SOCIAL SECURITY ACT" attachment to the Affidavit of Support. They also attached a hard copy of it but no soft copy.

    They told me I could scan it and my fiance can fax it back to me and they would accept it.

    Anyways, I have scanned the text in and matched the formatting to the original form which you can use if you like to send to your sponsor/s. ;-)

  9. How many copies of notarized Birth certs and passports should I bring to the US for the rest of the Visa procedure?

    I called to change my name on my Letter of Good Conduct and Ms. Umi was very unhelpful. She says the fax machine is too far away for her to check for my fax and instead she wants me to mail the original copy back to her with ANOTHER self addressed stamped envelope. I might just not bother.

    Also, the Translation Institute's contact info has changed.

    She told me to e-mail a scanned copy of my birth cert to her and she will send me a quotation. Hopefully I don't have to make a trip there.

    NVC received, NVC left, consulate received...

    in your signature?

    How do you know those details? What are they? Should I have gotten them too?

    My fiance got his NOA2 and I got the Packet 3 in the mail. And that's it.

  11. I got my Packet 3 last week. ;-) Waiting for financial documents from my fiance and the Birth Cert translation.

    Did you guys have to go in person to get it translated? Or did you fax it?

    Also, I got my letter of good conduct BUT they addressed me as MR. instead of MS.! Incompetent! I'm not sure if it will matter to the embassy but I'm trying to get it corrected.

    So you just make your own copies and then get the Commissioner to stamp/sign it? Or do we make copies at the Commissioner's office?

    I'm gonna do that tomorrow and fly to the US tomorrow night for a 3 week visit! Can't wait!

    You can certify copies of passport and BC with a commisioner of oath.

    As for translation of birth certificate WITHIN Malaysia, the US embassy wanted a translation done by a courthouse or attorney/legal firm. They would not accept self translations.

    OUTSIDE US, according to VJ you should be able to translate your own documents and certify it yourself with an excerpt at the end of the translation as long as you are fluent in both languages (english and malay).

    Keep in mind the Malaysian US embassy will not accept self certified translations.

    A reminder to all to think about how many times you will need a certified copy of your passport, birth certificate etc once in US for things like social security number and other goverment official stuff. Bear this in mind and make as many copies as you can afford to bring with you to US. This also goes for translation of birth certificate and/or marriage certificates. Get them translated in Malaysia and bring as many copies with you as you can.

    To certify each copy of anything at a Commisioner of Oaths, all it cost me was 2 bucks per page.

    For the certificate of Good Conduct, they ask for

    "Certified" copies of IC and Passport.... What does "certified" mean? I have access to a copied at work. Will that do? Or do I have to go to an official government copier place... like at the IC/Passport department.

    you know how Malaysia and US A4 paper sizes differ...

    I'm just thinking how that will affect my documents because some docs are from him and some from me...

  16. Omg, now I am overwhelmed with that list!

    1. How did you print Skype history? I use that too.

    2. How did you organize your documents? I read that they said put in a "plastic bag" like for photos or boarding passes. Is that like a clear sheet holder? Did you use a binder? Or just staple relevant docs together. How did you label them? Do you have any pictures of your compiled docs?

    3. Did you e-mail me the template?

    Omg, I didn't count on needing that much evidence! I will take your advice about frontloading. Do you think Malaysia is a "hard" embassy?

    So exciting that you are done!

    How many times did you and ur then bf meet in person? What kind of proof did you submit. How much is enough?

    I have tonnes of photos but they aren't dated. I read that we just put the dates on the back of the photo.

    I'm thinking:

    - plane tickets

    - photos

    - engagement ring receipt

    Anything else? They said e-mails and postcards. Did you do that?

    Also, if I have plane-tickets/photos spanning more than 2 years, should we include them or just keep it to 2 years?
