  1. Hello!

My husband and I had our AOS interview late June and we were approved right away. When we were at the interview, the USCIS representative took my EAD card and told me I didn't need it because I would receive my green card in the mail soon. I got notification that a green card was in production.

My question is for anyone who went to get their social security card at their local office. I am eager to speed the process up, I'm looking for work and would like to be able to accept an offer if one happens to come my way. We are in a tough financial situation and I'm getting impatient with waiting for things to come in the mail.

Is their a possibility of getting my social security number and card by applying now using a notice of action or other document, while my green card is still processing or do I have to wait until I have it and can bring it in to the SSO for verification.

I would have gone in to the office with my EAD card, if It hadn't gotten taken away by USCIS. I've tried calling both USCIS and Social security hotlines and spoke with representatives who were of no help.

any input would be great. I might just be getting a bit antsy, but I have read that it can take weeks for the Social security card to be sent as well.

    thanks

  2. I would re-write the forms with the new address and send it out once you move (or maybe a few days before). issue is, if your name is not on the post box you won't get the USCIS mail

The cover letter wouldn't work, you would still need to send in a form AR-11 and do the change online as well. Your husband would also need to submit an I865 change of address (865 is the change of address form for the 864 form)... WAY too much hassle in my opinion.

You CAN change your address but it's risky and to be avoided if at all possible (which is why i've waited.. much as it's killed me).

Vanessa&Tony, thanks so much for the reply, I recognize that you have helped answer my questions before. Its greatly appreciated as we try and figure out all this complicated stuff.

We were thinking we would just use our new address. We have met with the current residents and I'm sure they would be happy to put our name on the mailbox and notify us when we receive mail. I also have read somewhere about USCIS sending an e-mail notification when they receive the package. Do you know anything about this?

The only thing is, I have read other posts that say the information you put on the forms has to be accurate on the date you send it. Would we be violating this policy somehow?

The process of filling out forms and gathering the information has really taken us longer than it should and we were eager to send them within the next week. How long is it generally from the day of sendoff to USCIS (courier) to the time you will receive any notification?

The end of the month seems so far away and I need to get this filed ASAP to get my work permit, would you recommend just waiting, or following through with the plan I have noted above.

    Thanks!

  3. Hello,

I am almost done filling out the forms and gathering all my information for my Adjustment of status, I-130, I-485 and I-765.

    My question is:

My husband and I are moving at the first of April from our apartment that we have been living in for 6 months to a house in the same city.

All the forms have our current address on them. We were hoping to send them out before the end of this month, before we move.

    Should we:

-keep our current address on the forms and notify them in the cover letter of our new address as of April 1st?

-Fill them out again with the address we will be at as of April 1st? Since they will probably be receiving them around that time.

Also, If we send the forms out with a defunct address are there specific forms we need to send to notify them of our new one?

Thanks so much for your time!

  4. Re the passport, I just sent in my photo/main bio page, and that was fine. In NH the copies you get are certified copies already, so we just got a few of them from the town clerk and gave them one. I think USCIS would rather an original certified copy, rather than a copy of a copy.

The only reason why I ask is that our county office in Portland, OR is charging 17.00 per copy!! with additional copies of 7.00. After we got married we bought only one and figured we could copy it. It seems ridiculous to ask that much for a piece of paper with a stamp on it.

  5. Hello I have a question about possible overstaying.

    Here is the situation:

I entered the US on a B-1 visa from Canada in may 2009 by plane with a return ticket back to Canada 6 months later in November. I was in the US under a grant from the Canadian government for art related work and travel. My US boyfriend accompanied me during this time and to which unpremeditated, he proposed to me and we decided to get married. We were married in the US while I was on my B-1 visa in September 2009. I have currently stayed past my B-1 visa and am just now almost finished with the A0S papers this time in March. I haven't worked during this time, my now husband has supported me.

My question is.... since I overstayed my B-1 visa, does it automatically turn into a tourist visa after the date of intended departure is up?

I know that technically you cannot overstay 180 concecutive days without being penalized.

Does anyone know how this works, will I be forgiven because I was married to a US citizen during my visa?

    Thanks so much in advance!

  6. Hello,

I am seeking the answers of a few questions as I prepare my Adjustment of status application package.

    1. When asked for a copy of a passport, should it be copied in full with blank pages or just the pages which contain stamps? also does it need to be a color copy?

    2. I received a checklist for my AOS package from my US consulate which said to send my I-120 (F-1 student visa) from when I went on a university exchange in the US. this was in January 2008. Should I still send it even though I've graduated since then?

    3. I am applying concurrently my I-130,I-485 and I-765. I have read the checklist which is featured on this site. Do I need to include same documents, such as my marriage certificate, passports, etc in both my I-130 packs and my I-485 packs? Will it be read my different departments and need to be separated? Or can I omit them and just apply with everything in a giant package.

Thanks so much in advance, everyone is always so helpful here!!

  7. Hello!

My American husband just started a new job after being unemployed for the past 6 months.

He's unable to submit the I-864 form to sponsor me, so his father has thankfully filled out an affidavit of support form.

I'm aware that I need a written document from my sponsors employer. So would this be my husbands fathers employer??

Also, would it be OK to have a written document from my husbands new employer to state that he is now fully employed?

    thanks so much!!!

  8. Hello!

I am a Canadian citizen who came to the states by plane a few months ago and did not receive a I-94. I am now married to a US citizen and filing for my adjustment of status in Oregon.

I have been filing the questions about my I-94# and A# with 'NONE/CANADIAN', but I was wondering about the NONIMMIGRANT VISA NUMBER. Particularly, the I-485 form in Part 3.

Does this also not pertain to Canadians and is this a number that would have been on a I-94?

    Thanks in advance!!

    Nat
