  1. Hello all,

I am trying to decide about how to fly my beloved to US after the visa is approved (positive thinking here!). She is a Ukrainian citizen and will need to get from Kiev to the Cincinnati. She can either connect through JFK (New York) or Paris. I'd rather send her to Paris, because I think Cincinnati is less busy as a POE than JFK. However, I am not sure if she can get or if she even needs a transit visa in Paris. Who can give me experiences either way?

    Thanks, Ryan

  2. Hello all,

My fiancee is going for her K1 visa interview at the Moscow embassy soon. She works in embroidery and so has callouses on her hands. She is worried that she will be rejected because they can't fingerprint her at the K1 interview. So at what stage do they take fingerprints?

    Thanks, Ryan

They will print one finger at the interview. They may or may not take her fingerprints at the POE and they will take them again for the AOS biometrics.

Thank you for yet another very helpful reply. ~Ryan

  3. Hello all,

Our K1 application is currently at the embassy in Moscow. My fiancee wrote me that she heard that a certificate stating that she had never been married was required for the application. I looked at the embassy website and didn't see any mention of such a thing. Only mention was of proof of termination of a previous marriage. Do they take your word for it if you say you were never married?

    Thanks, Ryan

  4. Hello all,

I received an email this morning that we have a interview for out K1 visa at the Moscow embassy on January 28. This is longer than I would like, but I understand that you have to wait your turn in line. This comes as a huge blow to my fiancee however. She was counting on interviewing in Kiev, her hometown, rather than Moscow, her current place of residence. So now that we have an interview date (after Christmas), she wants me to try to transfer the application to Kiev in hopes of getting an earlier (before Christmas) date. I am concerned that all the possible red tape involved in transferring could slow things down even more. A look at the averages in the VJ database suggests that Kiev embassy is giving interviews about 40 days earlier than Moscow right now. But will we lose more than 40 days transferring? Anyone had experience with this? Also, I have read other posts which seem to indicate that you can transfer just by emailing the embassies involved. Is this correct?

    Thanks, Ryan

Well that answers that ... I called the NVC who confirmed that the proper course of action was to contact the Kiev embassy and see if they would take the case. I received an email this morning from the Kiev embassy which stated that they would not accept the case from Moscow. I probably could pursue it and maybe even be successfully, but more and more time will be just be lost that way. My fiancee has overcome her initial distress and accepted that the date will be January 28. I plan to spend Moscow an email periodically asking if they have any cancellations. So I guess it's time to learn the meaning of the saying: "Absence makes the heart grow fonder."

    Thanks, Ryan

  6. The only reason Kiev would be better than Moscow is that it would ease her stress, because Kiev is her hometown.

I assume that it would take a fair amount of time to transfer the file from Moscow to Kiev. Anytime we might save if indeed Kiev is a little faster, we would lose by transferring.

I can't go either way so that doesn't matter.

Moscow, it is then. As I say, if the end of the process is approval, neither she nor I will care one way or the other.

    Thanks, Ryan

  7. Yes, she currently lives in Russia, so it appears that all is well. It is strange because I double checked - there is in fact question #20 on the I-129F which asks what embassy do you want. I put Kiev, but they sent it to Moscow anyway. It doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. It just might slow things down a bit because the wait time seems to be longer in Moscow. But who cares as long I get an approval? :star:

  8. Hello all,

I got a surprise today when I learned that our file was sent to Moscow rather than Kiev. I thought I had the one in Kiev all figured out and now it's Moscow instead. It seems that might slow us down a little, but the main thing I care about is an approval.

So a question about the scheduling - How do you get an interview scheduled? Do you schedule it yourself or do you just wait to find out when they have scheduled it for you? In other words, besides sending my fiancee all the paperwork, what do I need to do now? Try to call/email to schedule an interview or just keep waiting for our case on to appear on the online scheduling page?

    Thanks, Ryan

  9. Hello all,

On form I-129F we put Kiev, Ukraine as the US embassy for my fiancee to apply, because she is a Ukrainian citizen. However, my fiancee lives near Moscow, Russia right. So the NVC told me they sent our file to Moscow. Did the NVC do the right thing? Or more importantly - Will the embassy in Moscow accept her application as a Ukrainian citizen? Just to be clear, she is NOT a Russian citizen.

    Thanks, Ryan

  10. My updated signature says it all! :)

How did you receive your notification?

My file was touched on 10/23/09 too but it still says Intial Review. I have not received anything via email or text.

I hope there isn't a problem. I am so nervous.

Do you all think I will get something soon?

I got a touch on Friday 10/23 and it still said initial review until this morning 10/25. Then it changed to we mailed an approval to you on 10/23 and post-decision activity. I have heard that some adjudicators work from home. I wonder if someone wasn't working at home this morning? Anyway, I wouldn't get too worried until it sits there for quite a bit longer with nothing happening. No matter how you look at it, a touch is good news! Hope you get an approval soon.

  11. Hello, VJers,

I just want to conduct an informal poll concerning experiences with the USCIS online status service. (Go to https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/jsps/login.jsp and register if you haven't already.)

I understand that many people are not getting emails at all. My question is among those who are getting emails are you getting emails for each touch or just for status updates?

I ask because my package got a touch on Friday but I didn't get an email or a text. I know my email is right and gets through though because I changed my password and immediately got a notification that I had done so.

    Thanks in advance for responding.

  12. I suggest you get a TRANSCRPIT of your 2008 taxes and some sort of statement showing a current income from this IRA. As long as it can be verified and it is above the guidelines, you are good to go. I would also attach a statement of the value of the account as I presume the IRA balance far exceeds the minimum needed for asset qualification if it produces more than $18,000 per year in dividends, interst...whatever. Sounds like you are fine.

Excellent, thanks for all your help. I am now confident that everything will be fine. ~ Ryan

  13. I don't know about the IRA part, but theoretical employment has no merit with the I-134, either you have the money now, or you don't basically. I could be a doctor in a few years, but that doesn't mean that I absolutely will or that I will find a job when I complete the program.

    You will need a co-sponsor.

Thanks, that answers my question about a letter concerning future employment. Also, I should clarify my original post. I don't have any earned income. I do have income though (as reflected by how much I owed on my 2008 taxes!) derived from the inherited IRA. This amounts is above the minimum requirement. So basically my question at this point is whether or not I will need a letter from my investment company or if my monthly statements alone will be enough. I ask because the I-134 asks for bank saving deposits on one line and stocks and bonds on another. My IRA is in a number of different mutual funds.

    Thanks, Ryan
