  1. Hi,

My husband and I have a nightmare situation right now. He is here on K-1, we married in early April and had our AOS ready to send out last week. However, in the interim, we got news that his father is dying. We took our ready to file application to an emergency INfo pass appointment last week and pleaded for an advance parole, but they would not issue it until we mailed the app to Chicago and brought them a death certificate (they would not let him go to see him until he actually died : (. We mailed AOS overnight FedEx last Tuesday, it was received Weds a.m., and his father died on Saturday. We have an Info pass appointment to plead again for AP today so he can get home for the funeral and we have FedEx proof of delivery, but nothing from USCIS and they have not cashed the check. How long does this actually take? Is it in their system even if they have not notified us? The Infopass woman said that as long as we mailed it and she could see it in their system we should be okay, but I wonder if anyone can please tell me how long it takes to get into the system? Or any other advice would be appreciated too, this has been awful! Thanks...

    Karen

  2. Well, no news at this end. Still in AP. My husband is contacting his congressman today. I had planned to fly back to the US this week...and now I don't even have my passport, let alone a visa. Have spent far too much time online trying to see how many Brits are ever put in AP...let's just say, most UK citizens get their passports back, with visa inside, by the end of the week, and on another forum I read of someone who had her interview on this Thursday just gone and they tried delivering her passport the very next day :( :( :(

i am so sorry this happened to you, what a nightmare. i really hope they fix this for you soon. it seems really unfair the way this was handled and i wish you the best for a quick resolution to the issue.

  3. Hi h1a1, I remember that we had our interviews scheduled for the same day. I will look for your thread, but hope everything went okay! I went on US Embassy website and it says that the visa takes 5 business days to process, and then it looks like the courier takes one day to send, so hopefully we will get them by next week at the latest! if you get yours please let me know and I will do the same!

  4. Hi,

We had our K-1 interview on Feb 23 and were approved. However, when we checked with the courier yesterday, they said they had still not received the visa from the Embassy for delivery. Is this normal? They did not say anything about additional processing to us at the interview. Has anyone else who interviewed around the same time received theirs?

    Thanks

P.S. I am referring to US Embassy in London

  5. Hi,

My fiance has his interview on Tuesday and we are very hopeful he will be approved. We have been planning for him to move here on March 19, 2010. But we just received the horrible news that his father has terminal cancer and will likely pass away sometime this year. This puts us in a bind because we had not planned on marrying immediately (we wanted to wait a month or two), but you cannot leave the US on Advance Parole if you have not filed for AOS. So if he came over on K-1 and needed to return to England for an emergency for his father and we were not yet married, it would mean we would have to start all over. So I am wondering if anyone knows if it is possible, even if he is approved for K-1, to come over here for a month or so in March on the Visa Waiver Program as a visitor, then return to England to see his father, and then come back the next time (within the K-1 allotted 6 months time frame) on the K-1? I hope this makes sense to you. Or if you have other ideas (other than marrying the day he lands here, which we could consider although it was not what we had planned), please let me know!

    Thanks,

    Karen and Mark

  6. I have my interview date on Feb 23rd, also at 9am! My letter came today. My police certificate also arrived today so no more worries for a while.

Wow I wonder if there were no other apps between ours to process, or maybe they are all on that date? Regardless, how exciting!! Best of luck. Don't forget your long form birth certificate-- we just scrambled around to get the right one.

  7. Congrats! :)

On another note, that certainly bucks the trend we've been seeing with interviews being scheduled during the first week of the month. Just when we think we have them figured out, they go and pull a fast one ;)

if it helps, they logged us on 1/19/10 and then seems then scheduled the interview date on 1/26, so it took them exactly a week to schedule it after it was logged. i only found out the date by calling today, we haven't gotten the letter yet!

  8. Hi-- I have been calling DOS pretty regularly lately to try to find out if they have processed my fiance's packet 3 so we can get our interview date (London). However, since the Haiti crisis I have not been able to get through. Has anyone successfully contacted them over the past week? Any tips? Thanks!

  9. Mine has now been logged so hopefully it is the same for you, too. We should get interview dates given within the next couple of weeks, I'd think.

thanks so much for letting me know! how did you find out? i have been trying to call dos this week but have not been able to get through-- kept getting messages that the wait times were incredibly long due to the haiti crisis. i am so excited for you!!! please let me know when you get your interview date.

  10. (Moved from K-1 to General immigration issues)

I would recommend everyone to stay on topic - the OP asked if the Haitian TPS would slow down visa processing - not if "dey took r jobz too"

    (I got the reference... :))

Wow I am not going to chime in on some of the more "interesting" posts on here, but I will mention that I have been trying to call the DOS to check on my application status (am waiting for interview date) for the past several days and have not been able to get through, which has not been the case a few weeks ago. When I called today there was a new automated message saying that call volume has been very high there due to the crisis in haiti, so the only way i know of right now that it is affecting us is that it is very hard to get a status update right now, which i guess i can live with if they are busy helping people who have a bit more need than i do right now...

  11. The embassy give dates once a month it seems, at the beginning of each month. You were possibly just too late to get a date in january so keep your fingers crossed for first 2wks in feb. You can call the DOS to find out if you have been logged (number in many other threads-cant remember atm) and they can give you a date a few days before you find out via letter too...

thanks for the feedback its helpful! its so hard to be so close to the hopeful end of being apart, and have to just sit and wait around again...

  12. hi-- its been a month since we sent packet 3 back to the london embassy and as of today, they still have not entered it into the system! does anyone know what the average length of time is for them to schedule the interview? is it normal for it to take this long? is there any way to get them to process the packet already, or do we just have to patiently wait? we have plans in the u.s. for the end of march and were really hoping my fiance would be here by then!! grrrr... so frustrating to helplessly wait!

  13. Hi--

According to Royal Mail, the London Embassy received our Packet 3 on Dec 22, 2009. However, when I call the DOS they told me that they don't have it entered into the system yet. They do have his medical in the system (He had it Dec 21). How long does it usually take them to process the packet and assign an interview date? Our NOA2 expires on Feb 23 and I really don't want to have to get an extension!

    Thanks!

  15. When I was phoning them I always stated, "Good morning/afternoon, (name of person), my name is xxx, and I'm calling to inquire about the status of a K-1 petition that's been sent to London. I am hoping you can give me some information on it's progress." Initially they had no info, then after a few weeks it changed to "It looks like all of the paperwork is there and approved but there's no interview date set."

I hope everyone gets their dates soon :)

Hi-- we also submitted our paperwork for K-1 interview in London in December and have not heard anything either. How do you contact the Department of State? Thanks! Hope we all hear soon!

  16. In 2004 i was arrested for being drunk and disordly i was jus cautioned. Iv jus been for my medical and the docotor made a big deal about it, i also had to have extra blood test to check i didnt have a drinking problem due to this incident been related to alcohol . I am now worried what the embassy will say at my interview and if it will cause problems. I have stated on the DS forms that i have been arrested and i have a subject access document with the caution info.

thanks everyone. what exactly is a subject access document and how do you get one? thanks...
