  1. My wife is here with a K1 Visa, we wanted to submit the AOS/EAD this week. We knew she did not need a medical exam being she had one for the K1 less then 1 year ago. But we forgot about needing vaccinations (she has no proof of previous vaccinations) and we see she needs 2 doses of a particular one, and she has to wait 4 weeks for the 2nd dose...and we'd much rather send the AOS/EAD in now then wait 5 weeks or so.

So, can we send in the AOS without the I-693? (in the I-485 instructions it says: "you only need to submit a vaccination supplement, not the entire medical report. You "may" include the vaccination supplement with the form I-485")

  2. It sounds like they were a little tougher on them in their interviews maybe then they have been lately? I don't know if this is a new trend or anything but it can't hurt for anyone going through Juarez for a K-1 any time soon to bring as much evidence as you can to show during the interview. Also, it is interesting to read in your review that they drilled your fiance about you not being in Juarez for the interview, and my fiance never even got asked if I was in town or not-so random.

To clarify about the cab drivers thinking you need to go to the border to get the visa stamped, there is a lot of confusion about "activating" the visas. When you get the packet from DHL, it will have a crossing point in Juarez designated on it, and the drivers believe that for any visa you get, you have to immediately go to that checkpoint to get the visa stamped. The letter with the visa packet explains that for the K-1, if you want to cross in Juarez, you should use their designated bridge/crossing point, but that you can cross anywhere. Also, the letter explains that you can fly in or use any crossing point that you want.

I would guess it also depends on which consul worker you interview with, what mood they are in, how busy they are, maybe even if they are thinking I am hungry / lets make this interview quick so I can go eat! - and how sure they are about the person and their US fiancee. When we went in June my fiancee was not asked to show any addition proof (of a relationship) but we brought a lot of it!

  3. Some of us have the same question so I am going to re-post it here in hopes that someone can help us out:

There seems to be some discrepancy as to whether or not the American fiance is allowed into the consulate for the interview. It seems based on some recent posts from K-1 interviews at the CDJ consulate that they are requesting that the American fiance come in for an interview (so it appears that they want us to be there also now), but I have read in some other posts of the American fiance waiting outside all day during the interview process. I am planning on being there, but I was 50/50 as to whether or not they were going to let me join my fiance for the interview.

I had thought that if they don't let me in, but then the interviewer wants to talk to me, I could always be outside waiting. But, due to the security situation, I did not want to be standing outside the consulate all day (I know cell phones are not allowed inside, so if my fiance needs to get in touch with me he would then have to go all the way back to the hotel to get me, and reports I have read say that people waiting outside of the consulate are in a very dangerous position as "soft targets" with all of the threatened car bombings-not so pleasant to think about). Also, I know that several other people are concerned because they are not in a position to join their fiances in CDJ for the interview, and they are worried that this may lead to a denial of the K-1 visa or a delay.

Does anyone have any clarification about this? Thanks in advance!

My fiancee, and a bunch of the other people that she talked were not asked to go get their US fiancee to be interviewed. If you are still concerned it might happen, stay at one of the many local hotels being are only a 5 minute walk away. Or if you want to stay right outside the consulate and wait, they are lockers right there, tables to sit at, places to buy food/drinks. And when I was there I felt very safe and was not worried about something happening to me. I would describe the consulate area as a safe island inside a dangerous city.

good luck, and don't be surprised if the process is much easier then expected!

    - Medical Exam results sealed

So, it was a big surprise but in our case they did not ask for any additional proof of a relationship! (But I would advise to bring yours in case at your interview they do ask for proof)

We stayed at Holiday Inn Express (free breakfast, free DHL shuttle, pool, exercise room, computers with internet in lobby, free copies & printing) and both medical exam locations and the consulate were no more then a 5 minute walk away. Also very close was a mall (w/Banamex and movie theater), bowling alley, restaurants, photos/printer/fax stores, City Junior hotel, Quality inn, Microtel hotel.

She arrived at Clinica Medica Internacional at 5:45am and walked right in. I went back to the hotel to wait for her. She was the 51st person to arrive. They did the following: blood test, eye sight test, chest xray, checkup type exam, no vaccines, no psychological test, no urine test, but asked about het tattoo, piercings, medical history, drugs, convictions, police problems. She was back at the hotel at 8:00am, and was told to go back to pick up results at 2:00pm. We went back at 2 and she went in a side entrance. At 2:15 I saw her come back out and then into the front door. They closed the side entrance at 2:20 so I would advise getting there right at 2pm. A little after 3 she came back out. She actually did need the urine test and luckily was able to get that done and she now had her sealed results and xray cd.

The following day she got in the consulate line at 7:15am (our appointment letter said 8am to 10am) And I went back to the hotel to wait for her. She went to three windows total with a lot of waiting in-between. The 1st window took her documentation and asked several simple questions like where is your fiancee and what do you do (job). The second window took her finger prints. The 3rd window was the consul and he looked through our documents she handed over earlier at the 1st window (and our I-129F) and asked:

    Where is your fiancee?

    Where did you meet?

Where do you plan to live in the US?

What were you doing in the states before? (when we meet)

Where were these pictures taken? (he had the pictures sent in with the I-129F)

Do you have a warm jacket?

    Her: yes........

Consul: Good because you will need it when you move to New York, congratulations your visa is approved

Then she went to the DHL area to pay for the shipment of the Visa. The only option is to have it delivered to the DHL office in Juarez and she was told it could take 1 to 4 business days. So DO NOT plan to leave Juarez the day of your interview! She was given a DHL tracking number and was back at the hotel at 11:00.

We checked the DHL website many times and was happily surprised at 2:30pm the following day it showed it was delivered at 1:30! We finished lunch and headed back to the hotel and caught the free 4pm shuttle to the DHL office which was about 15 or 20 minutes away. We feel very lucky everything went smoothly and quickly!

Note: The medical fee and banamex were required to be paid at a certain amount in pesos and in both cases was higher then listed. The Medical fee converted back to dollars was $184 and at banamex I ended up paying $142 dollars.

Any questions, just send me a message.

  5. Does Ciudad Juarez send out a packet3 or not? If they send it, is it by courier, guaranteed to be delivered or sent regular mail in Mexico. I hope not the latter. I received the NVC notice on March 24th 2010 and we haven't heard a single thing from anybody since then. Any way of contacting someone without going through the crazy 900 numbers or buying a pin for $26??? We're beginning to get frustrated and have seen timelines similar to ours with interviews scheduled or completed. Thanks.

They mailed me (in the us) a one page letter. The letter says to go here for instructions/forms:

    http://ciudadjuarez.usconsulate.gov/fianceforms.html

About 3or4 weeks later my fiance(in Mexico) received the same letter.

You need the letter when you go to Juarez.

edit: it was sent regular mail

  6. So looks like I was confused for some reason when I did a search for the DS-157 it took me to some new form DS-160, so nevermind on that question.

As far as the requirement to fill out DS-157 it is not mentioned on the consulate website but I have seen numerous people who have said it's not on the website but it is required. It's also listed under the portal link for Consulate information.

Also did you use the DS-156K form from the website? I notice it's in Spanish and does not let you type any info and it's expired. Should we just use the one from Visajourney?

We were going to use this one:

  7. Hi Douglas,

I am going to put everything in a folder and then sub folders with the names of the forms written on the tabs. My fiance is already nervous so I don't want him to get frustrated looking for forms since they have to bring so many.

Did your fiancee fill out the DS-157? I had trouble with finding Juarez as the location when selecting where you are filling for your visa.

We are heading to Juarez Sunday, when are you guys going?

    We are going June 1st

I do not see in that form where they ask you about location (Juarez)?

Also, in Juarez's instructions I do not see they even require the DS-157, did you?

But, she plans to fill out the DS-157 (soon).

Good luck, and I'd love to hear how everything went!

  8. a couple questions

    How did you organize everything?

Do they ask for everything at once? So go with one big complete document package?

Or did they ask for things separately so individual folders?

I see they want the petitioners financial items in duplicate.

Do you need a 3rd copy for the I-134?

Actually, in the instructions I do not even see that they request the I-134? did they ask you for one?

    Any other financial document tips?

    Thanks!
