  1. Hey all,

I sent my OPTIN and DS-3032 10 days ago and the e-mail said that to get a response takes 10 days but of course no word. I called NVC and the operator said it might take some time because they are busy but has no idea when I should consider it to be outside of their processing time.

I've finished all the AOS paperwork and fee bill is paid but can't send it because I have no confirmation of OPTIN...grrrrr

Any suggestions? Should I talk to a supervisor next time?

  2. Hey everyone!

I opted in to electronic processing and attached my DS-3032 a week ago but have not heard anything yet. Three days later NVC e-mailed me the case number and DS-3032 and also the AOS invoice. However, I haven't received confirmation of my opt in. Do I need to resend the optin e-mail and DS-3032?

I noticed some people's timelines say they continued with NVC EP and then received opt in e-mail later. Should I hold off paying AOS and sending in I-864 and supporting docs till I receive confirmation of opt in? Or can I go ahead with the payment?

If I do go ahead would I continue to send to the NVCElectronic e-mail or the NVCMontreal e-mail?

Thanks in advance for the help!

  3. We were in a similar situation so here's what we sent:

    To show financial mingling:

-got a supplemental (secondary) credit card to his

Also, we made each other beneficiaries on everything- retirement accounts, savings accounts, life insurance, medical contacts, etc.

We attached some photos of our wedding and previous trips (including our families). We didn't put any affidavits though.

    Hope this helps!

  4. Woo to the Hoo, I found NVC September peeps!!! Just got my NOA2 on September 16th and itching to get a move on! I've got all forms and documents ready to go. I did have one question though:

I was under the impression that I would get an alien number with my NOA2 to put onto my I-864. Turns out I didn't, is this normal? Is it just K1/K3 that get alien numbers with their NOA2?

    Thanks for clearing it up!

  5. We're still in the process of getting our NVC number but I had a silly question. Did people send individual files (ex. pdf file of I-864, file of paystubs, file of tax transcripts) or did you just make one package (one pdf file containing everything)? I don't think it matters, I'd just feel safer going with the majority since I now believe anything and everything can jinx the process ha ha.

  6. Hi Everyone,

We just got our NOA2 and are getting our packets prepared for NVC. I received my police check from Calgary Police Services. It does say that Canada's National Repository for criminal records was serached and there's no record but it also says the following:

"This is to confirm that a Vulnerable Sector Search (Pardon Sex Offenders Records) has not been completed. If this Police Information Check is being disclosed by the applicant for employment or volunteering and will be dealing with the Vulnerable Sector the above must attend the Police Information Check Unit and obtain another Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector search completed"

Is this an issue? Did anyone else have this on their check?

I asked for a Canada wide name check for immigration purposes but am not sure if it is now considered incomplete.

    Thanks in advance :)

  7. Hello all,

This may be a little long so I'm going to try and simplify it.

    1) I , along with my parents, am a Canadian citizen through naturalization and renounced my Indian citizenship.

    2) I was born in the United Arab Emirates to Indian parents (therefore, my birth certificate states that I am Indian)

3)My mother got a free laminating machine and laminated my birth certificate rendering it useless. It's also got a tear in it (from when I tried to see if the laminate would come off----it doesn't for those of you wondering).

4)I tried to have a new birth certificate sent to me but they refuse to do so since my nationality on the BC states that I am Indian but I am asking for it using my Canadian passport (since I no longer possess my Indian passport).

The following is paperwork I do have:

    1) Baptism Certificate

    2) Certificate of date of birth from the Indian Embassy to state that I was entered into their logs and my birth date.

    3) Receipts to show that we attested documents to collect the birth certificate

    4) E-mails saying that they refuse to give us the birth certificate due to the nationality issue

Can I use these instead of a birth certificate and send a letter in writing stating why they refuse to give me my birth certificate? Will they accept it or is lack of a birth certificate grounds to deny us?

The BC department asked for my father to come back into the country to get the birth certificate (I don't know why as I am 25...probably because I'm an unmarried woman) but he cannot as he left because his life was threatened and less importantly we can't afford to travel there.

If you're looking at my timeline to see where we are, we're waiting on the marriage certificate and are collecting papers in the meantime to have them ready to go to file I-130 and subsequent packages. I'm glad we spotted this now so we can "work on it" while waiting for the NOA.

Thanks in advance for your help VJers!!!

  8. Hello everyone!

I've been creeping on here for a while. This is my first post and I"d like to introduce myself. My FI is American and I'm Canadian. We're so lucky to have had this site while we were dating so we were careful to take photos with the family and save boarding passes, hotel receipts, etc. The guides were very informative and we've started to fill out forms.

We are planning on having a small legal ceremony sometime soon and are looking for ways to show a bonafide marriage. He is a first time homeowner so we're not sure about some things:

    1) Can my name just be added to the mortgage even though I have no credit history in the US? Does this also apply to utilities (phone, cable, heat, etc.)?

    2) Will having a Canadian joint account as opposed to an American one have any bearing or are US joint accounts preferred?

Other steps we are planning to take:

    - Make each other beneficiaries on medical & life insurance.

    - Get affidavits from our moms & dads (This always cracks me up because at 25 & 28 we never expected to have them "write notes" for us as they put it.)

Looking forward to getting to know all of you during this process.

    Matt & Rachael
