  3. Yup, once you have NVC case number you can email the visa section and inquire if they have received the application. They were really good about getting right back to me that they had indeed received it. Then you can send packet 3.

Prepare yourself for whats to come. You will call NVC only to be told they dont have your case. You will go back to the fear factor. USCIS will tell you they dont have the case either.

The last event at USCIS was to place a bar code on your case file. Until that code is entered by NVC your case seems lost in the black hole. No one can find it.

Your case will be entered into the NVC data bank asap. If you case is a K 1 it will pass thru NVC pretty quickly. They forward it to the consulate in BKK. The consulate section will forward it to the embassy visa section. That takes a few days. The visa section will send notification while requesting P 3. Sending P 3 triggers interview date.

You can download P 3 at anytime. Do not send the docs in until you are CERTIAN your case is in BKK.

  5. Today, the USCIS sent me a text message saying my file was modified and when I looked in the email they sent...it was approved! What a relief. Now they will send the file to the NVC. Does that take 4-6 weeks? Who sends the file to the Embassy, USCIS or NVC? Do we need to do something to get an interview date or is that scheduled automatically? I have been so focused on the I-129F NOA1 and NOA2 that I did not study up on the next steps. I know each case is different, but is it reasonable to expect my fiancee to arrive before the end of the year?.

    :D

Call the NVC in a week or two (the forums on NVC can give you a better idea of when to do this). Get your case #. Once you have that case # you can contact BKK via email to determine IF and WHEN they have received your application.

As soon as they have it, as Ning stated, you can send in Packet 3 you have downloaded from the website and they will schedule your interview (Packet 4). I would highly recommend doing this as many people never get a packet 3, and you can start working on it immediately. Just don't send it until they confirm they have your case.

  6. Ning's point is that the proportion of illegals in Thai Town is quite high. I think this is likely true from personal anecdotal evidence, but hard facts of this nature are impossible to come by.

As far as hard numbers of Thai people, If you read this link below from the LA times, in 1999, it states:

"The new Thai Town will include the area between Normandie and Western Avenues along Hollywood Boulevard, where Thai businesses abound. The neighborhood is also home to many of the 80,000 Thai estimated to be living in Southern California, said Chanchanit Martorell, director of the Thai Community Development Center"

    http://articles.latimes.com/1999/oct/28/local/me-27216

Also immigration numbers from Thailand have doubled from the year 2000 census to 2009

"According to the 2000 census there were 150,093 Thais in the United States. In 2009, 304,160 U.S. residents listed themselves as Thais"

So I would approximate the number of Thai Peoples that filled out a census form in southern california to be between 160-200K

Per the topic at hand, Ning is spot on, they won't give tourist visas without rock solid evidence that you will return, and this isn't even necessarily the BKK embassy. My SIL is a Thai citizen who is married to a Canadian and lives in Canada, she has been trying for 4 years to get a tourist visa to come and visit us and her child's grandparents. They have denied her multiple times because her ties to Canada aren't strong enough. Therefore, I am not at all surprised they would deny the visa described in this article, however, like many other people have stated I think it is someone trying to be inflammatory because they are angry they could not get a visa.

My review of the Bangkok Embassy gave it 5 stars (a perfect rating), and you can read that review here: http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/view-dos-cis-reviews.php?entry=8338

Also, I reprinted the Thai newspaper article in its entirety, and I provided a direct link to it as well. The Dutch citizen who wrote the letter probably did not know the name of the Embassy official behind the window. In fact, dozens of people on VJ (including myself) have described the notoriously strict female Embassy official who does K-1 and CR-1 visa interviews, yet to my knowledge absolutely no one on VJ has ever been able to identify her by name.

Note also that the title of this topic is "Thailand Embassy hostile?" - with a question mark - and the original post asked if anyone had a "similar or different" experience. The original intent was therefore to identify additional evidence that would either confirm or question the accuracy of the described experience.

Ning, you're entitled to your own opinion, but there are certain rules to be followed. Argue your position, whatever it might be, with facts and logic. False information (e.g., an impossibly large figure for the population of Thai Town) only hinders the process of debate and discredits the person who provides it. And while you are fully entitled to your own opinion, it's not at all appropriate to try to put your own words into other people's mouths. These simple rules help to ensure fair and honest debate.

  7. I think for us the most difficult thing was waiting for the Green Card following a K1 and marriage. To me it seems absolutely insane that a person can be married to a USC, but cannot work, drive, or do pretty much anything for almost half a year, and that's the best case scenario.

For most people, the USC has to work, while the spouse is unable to do anything for a long time. This causes problems as not only is the spouse in a completely foreign situation without family and friends, but cannot do everyday things like drive to a job or apply for jobs.

  8. She can change her middle and last names thanks to marriage but not her first. She will need to go to court to get a legal name change to change her first. You can do this prior to AOS or following AOS. I don't know how long the process is in your state so after marriage and prior to AOS would be what I would do. That way you can ssubmit the marriage cert for last name change, and court order for the first name change so that her entire new name is on the GC. Otherwise you'll need to file an I-90 to change the GC, or wait till ROC.

This is true for middle and last name, but the OP asked about first and you typically can't change first without a court order.

I don't think this is necessarily true. My wife changed all three of her names (well changed two and added one) on the wedding certificate and had no problems using this for Driver's license, SS, AOS, greencard, etc. Maybe it's different because Thai's don't have middle names usually, but she had zero issues with changing all the names at once.

However this is done on a county by county basis in Iowa, and perhaps at some other level in other states, so some counties/states may disallow a legal first name change on a wedding license, but I was unaware that was an issue.

  9. I enjoy the green mango salad, but prefer Som Tum, with the fermented crabs and pra ra, the stinkier the better :) It's also really good with those little dried shrimp, they're not quite as strong as the shrimp paste.

You can make that mango salad with Green apples too, i like that almost as much. Fairly relevant since they're will be boatloads of those in the next few weeks.

This weekend we made nam prik nuum (it's sort of a northern chili relish) with the massive amount of green chilies we had from our garden. Because they were too spicy to be edible in large amounts, I cut out the seeds and roasted them until black on the outside, put that in a food processor with garlic, shallot, palm sugar, fish sauce, and some lime juice. Its great with cucumbers, green eggplants, or my favorite, pork rinds.

  10. Because the guidelines from ACIP have changed in addition to a new form for 2011.

Also the requirements are age dependent (like Hib, Rota, Pneumococcal are infant vaccines) and certain things are no longer required (HPV for example).

Most people at either healthcenter in BKK will get an MMR booster and a Td if they don't have an immunization history and anything else the physician thinks is necessary.
