That's great news but as far as myself goes I applied earlier than the 18th, and 22nd, I still have not got a notice of anything. I was suppose to leave for my new job but they stated with out the passport, they can not finish processing my application.

I applied for a passport and card on 02/18 and my status has been the same (processing) for the past two weeks. I so regret not having paid the extra 60 bucks to get it faster.

Hopefully everything goes well and she gets the same day oath...Mine was at 10:45, but I was called at 10:20. They only asked me for my passports (current and expired one), my green card, my DL and he also took my expired conditional green card away. I did bring all the original papers I sent with the application though.

*Your Alien Registration card (Not a problem)

*Any evidence of Selective Service Registration(Is this on EVERY letter...I'll explain why I am curious later)

*Your passport and/or any document you used in connection with any entries into the United States(easy)

*Those items noted below that are applicable to you:

If applying for naturalization as the spouse of a U.S. citizen:

*Your marriage certificate(okay, easy)

*Proof of death or divorce for each prior marriage of yourself or spouse (No problem)

*Spouses birth certificate ( Can do)

All of the above requirements seem easy as pie. Is this ALL we need to take to her interview. I'm also concerned about the selective service note as USCIS made not one but two mistakes on the 2-year GC and the 10-year GC. They had my wife's sex on the card as M instead of F. She received a reminder after the first green card to sign up for selective service. I had to file a form each time to get USCIS to issue a corrected GC since they made a mistake. I'm wondering if the selective service comment is a reminder that they still have it screwed up and we will AGAIN have problems with the citizenship. So, is this a comment on ALL interview letters about secret service?

To the other Atlanta applicant in this thread, F@rsc@p3, was your interview on Parklake Drive, NE. Did you ask for same day oath or was it just offered. Also, what documentation did you take along.

Yes, I didn't have to ask for the same day oath...The IO told me he was recommending me for approval and asked me to wait in the lobby and see if I would get invited to the same day oath. I wait for about 1 hour until my name was called and I got the Oath letter. I arrived 40 minutes earlier to the interview and got called within 10 minutes of my arrival. My interview lasted about 35 minutes. Good luck to your wife

No, your J-1 visa did NOT have the 2-year Home residency requirement, the OP's DOES. They are under different circumstances, even though they have the same visa. Some J-1's have it, and others do not.

OP- you cannot file an AOS unless you first get the 2-year HRR waived. You can do this from the US. I don't know whether or not you will be successful but you do it from in-country. Please read the thread I linked and study what John+noemy did. They succeeded. Some countries won't allow you to waive it - it's not the US's decision, it's her home country.

You cannot file AOS while she is subject to the 2-year HRR - you have to get that waived or go home.

Wow, I see things have changed since 2006... I had a j1 and applied for AOS just a few days before it was expired (7 months after our wedding) We never had any problem with our application. We didn't even need a lawyer. I'm so happy that our journey with Immigration is over. Best luck to you guys.

Okay I thank all of you for the replies.

She has a J-1 Visa as an Au Pair.

She has already extended for the extra year.

The extended J-1 visa expires March 29 and she has 30 days to stay after that.

Her visa (J-1) says she has the 2 year HRR.

So my question is if we marry can she stay here and just file for a AOS or will she have to return home and wait for the waiver in her country before she can return?

If you marry her then she can just file for a AOS and stay here...That was exactly what my husband and I did. Good luck!!

My money is on you Journey05. My wife did her fingerprints a full two months before you and we have heard zilch. Feb 26th is the beginning of month #4. Not feeling very positive at the moment.

Just checked the status and I see Atlanta is now at 5.7 months for processing N400. Guessing that means 5 months plus.

I can't believe that it only took me 87 days to get my citizenship. I'll keep my fingers crossed for your wife. Hopefully she gets same day Oath Ceremony too.

I came to the USA as an au pair(J1) almost 5 years ago. 5 months after my arrival, I married my husband because we were so in love and the Au Pair company was moving me to another State (2000 miles apart, hubby was also getting deployed to Iraq and only had 4 months left in the country). We got married and then applied for a green card. We never had any problems with the process. I just became a USC a week ago.

The J1 visa is valid for one year, you can get a year extension if you decide to stay and work with your host family for an extra year.

You can apply for citizenship 90 days before the 3rd anniversary of your green card.

F@rsc@p3 they did your oath ceremony same day? Nice! We still have not heard anything. I'm expecting some type of surprise about our application but I have no idea what or why. I can't believe my wife did her fingerprints on 11/10 and we have received nothing. I did call once and got the same blah, blah, blah. This is crazy. Still no updates since 11/02/10 and no letters or anything. I read the topic about fingerprints in the citizenship thread and I'm wondering if this might be the issue. My wife has a scar on one or two fingers and it took them a while to get her prints but they've managed to get them every other time. I know the technician said it was difficult but it was done.

Last Survivor, sorry to hear that you haven't heard from Immigration yet...I hope you do soon... Atlanta has Oath Ceremony everyday including Saturdays...I think you need to have the interview in the morning in order to get same day oath...My interview was at 10:45 am but I was called 5 minutes after my arrival (around 10:15 am) and it was over by 10:50 am. IO was really nice, the test was really easy and quick too...I still can't believe I'm a citizen...It's a dream come true...I'm so happy.

I also want to change my name. Well, I would like to put my maiden name back. It would be like this:

name/middle name/maiden name/hubby last name.

I wonder if they would let me have 2 last names.

Too Funny. We applied 10/26 and I figured we should just jump into the November thread because it looked like we would certainly be the last ones to shut down the October filers thread. Now it looks like we might just close out November as well. Getting pretty discouraged with Atlanta. No updates, touches, yellow letters. NOTHING. Looks like Phoenix lockbox is kicking a$$. Thank goodness my brother-in-law planned his wedding for Nov 2011 or we might just miss it at this rate. Sorry, just really discouraged with the system at the moment. ~heavy sigh~
