With a CR1 or IR1 visa, there's not status to adjust to. She'll enter with permanent residents status and be mailed a green card good for 2 or 10 years depending on whether you've been married more or less than two years upon entry. Green card and SS card usually arrive automatically within a month. She'll need to provide both with her I-9 form when she becomes employed.
Cool, thanks for the info. Can she use her visa stamped as temporary green card for working; I heard something like that once. Just wondering
-
I'd like to thank everyone on VisaJourney who helped my and my wife complete this process.
My wife finally received her permanent resident Visa and she's coming to the US in the end of this month.
I'm wondering how she'll receive her green card and when she can start working?
Also, are there other forms I need to accomplish now? I know I have to file an adjustment of status form or something within 90 days, but I wouldn't mind some additional info
Thanks

The police record I got for my wife from Japan says that it can only be opened by the US authorities (it's in a sealed envelope). Is this common for other countries too? Everyone says to make copies of the package and send them to my spouse for the interview, but I can't make copies of the certificate if I can't open it. Anyone else done the Japan embassy immigration?
Thanks

The information you seek is in LingChe's shortcuts. Below is the part that pertains to you
Below are the package contents:
BARCODED Cover Sheet (to be printed from web when your status is PAID online for IV bill)
You OWN cover sheet listing what documents are in the package, so they're easy for the reviewer to locate
Completed DS-230 part I & II and ONLY part I signed by beneficiary.
Photocopy of the beneficiary's passport biographic data page.
Original/certified copy of beneficiary’s birth certificate.
Original/certified copy of beneficiary’s and petitioner’s marriage certificate.
Original police certificates of the beneficiary.
Original/certified copy of military record, if applicable.
Original/certified copy of divorce decree, death certificate, etc. of previous marriage, if applicable.
Make 2 extra copies of this package. Send 1 copy to the beneficiary
Once everything has been sent in, it's time to wait.
Send the package to:
National Visa Center
ATTN: CMR
31 Rochester Ave. Suite 100
Portsmouth, NH 03801-2914
Good luck
Thanks for the reply
So the birth certificate and marriage certificate have to be originals? what good are the two copies of the package then; if they lose it, I don't have originals in the two copies.
Also, I was told I can't open the police certificate envelope, so I can't make copies.

I've paid the IV fee so now I have to send out the package. I filled out the DS-230, but I want to make sure I include the right forms and documents.
What documents are needed and which ones need to be originals?
After the NVC receives this package, do they send it to the embassy for the interview?
Does my wife need similar documents or should they all arrive in the package when she goes to the embassy?
I don't know how she can have a duplicate package if they want originals sent in...not too comfortable with that either.
Please let me know what I need to include in the package apart from the DS-230 form and the paid cover sheet. I've been searching the forum, but haven't found anything to completely clarify this for me
Thanks

A little more information:
The cover page listed from VisaJourney specifies the following documents:
Please find enclosed the following documents:
1. Bar-coded cover sheet
2. 2 Passport-sized photographs of the beneficiary
3. Completed and signed form DS-230, Part 1, by the beneficiary
4. Completed and unsigned form DS-230, Part 2
5. Photocopy of the biographic data page of the beneficiary's passport
6. Certified birth certificate of the beneficiary
7. Certified marriage certificate of the beneficiary and the petitioner
8. Original police certificate(s) of the beneficiary
Also enclosed are photocopies of the following documents:
1. Photocopy of the biographic data page of the beneficiary's passport
2. Certified birth certificate of the beneficiary
3. Certified marriage certificate of the beneficiary and the petitioner
4. Original police certificate(s) of the beneficiary
It lists birth certificate and marriage certificate under documents and then under photocopies, so do they need originals and photocopies?
Also, it lists police certificate and photocopy, but my wife said that the certificate she sent me in an envelope cannot be opened by me. So, I guess I have to just send them the envelope with the package and it will make its way to the interview?
Ehhh...no wonder people come to America illegally; the legal immigration process is insane..hehe

NOA2 is a Notice of Action form (I-797 Form) that USCIS mails you after your petition has been approved.
The NOA2 for I-130 would look like this http://www.visajourney.com/gallery/display...=2163&pos=0
cool, I've got that one
Thanks

If you filed the petition in the US, your NOA2 is what they want to see.
thanks for the reply; what exactly is the NOA2?

My wife wants to get the police report for the 230, but the website says that they need documentation stating the request. I don't know what I would use for this. I know that i need the report, but the NVC hasn't sent me any requests specifically for that. Maybe I can just send the 230 form requirements or something, but I"m not sure. Anyone obtained a police report from Japan or a country with similar requirements?
Thanks

I've completed the I-130 stage through USCIS. Through all of of the forms, I used my wife's new name (my last name). She had it legally changed in Japan after we got married; maybe we jumped the gun, but it seemed like the standard thing to do after you get married. I didn't think it would cause issues, but now I'm wondering. On none of the forms through USCIS did I use her maiden name, except when it asked for it. The only things that had that name was our marriage certificate and a copy of her passport.
I just received the paperwork from the NVC to start the Affidavit of Support and the 230 form. However, they're referring to her in the paperwork with her maiden name. So, do I use her legal name or maiden name when I complete the affidavit and the 230? She will have her new passport soon with my last name, so this is what she would be using to get into the states and this is what I will be using when I provide a copy for the 230.
This must be a relatively common issue, and maybe the answer is simple, but I don't want her trying to enter the states or going to the interview with conflicting data for her name. I saw other posts here concerning this but no definitive answers.
We still have awhile before she'll be ready to come to the states, so I'm not to worried about getting this done today or something, but I'd like to find out what I should do so that there's not issues when we get closer
I would appreciate any assistance
Thanks
PS. I'm getting so close to hugging my wife again. YEAH! What a ridiculous process to get her here though

I would call NVC directly and ask them. This is not a K1 question though. It's a CR1 question, so look for an organizer to come by and move it to the right forum.
Ok, thanks. Thought someone might have dealt with this already

I just took my wife's digital passport photos from Japan and printed them as wallets at walgreens. Then I cut them down to 2X2. The size of her head is a little bigger than a real passport photo, but I didn't hear any complaints...it's pretty close
-
I received my paperwork from the NVC with a 3032 copy and the paperwork says that my spouse must sign it and mail it in. I checked the procedures from VisaJourney.com and it talks about emailing the form. That would be ideal since it's harder for my wife to sign it and mail it in, but I was wondering if anyone else had done it that way?
Thanks

And what are the country(ies) you're needing these from? (And why are you unable to obtain them?)
I'm not unable to obtain it, I just wanted to make sure it was absolutely necessary. My wife is very busy with her job, and I don't want to bother her with a lot of things unless we have to do them. Good to know though; I'll be sure to tell her to get a copy of the records
thanks

Just wondering if this is absolutely necessary. I'm tired of trying to get documents and getting them translated; I'd like to be able to get this done ASAP. Anyone tried doing the 230 without this successfully? If it's necessary then I guess I'll ask my wife to try and get a copy
Thanks

My wife is Japanese and I'm American military. We got married in Japan a couple of months ago, but now I'm stuck back in the states.
I submitted the I-130 package a few days ago through mail.
I read a lot of the information on this site but I was hoping someone could explain the options a little bit better so I don't screw it up.
What's the next step? I know they'll send me a form to acknowledge receipt of the I-130, but then do I submit paperwork for the K3? I've been reading that it's slower than the CR-1, but I don't know.
What exactly is the CR-1? What paperwork do I need to do to get that started? I clicked on the FAQs for that process and it just described the stuff that I did for the I-130 and then the follow up with my spouse for interview and paperwork in Japan. Is that it? The CR-1 visa is basically just submitting the I-130 and then kicking back until they get to the point of working with my spouse at the Japanese embassy?
I just want to make sure that I"m not just kicking back when I should be doing something proactive. Perhaps it would be beneficial to submit the K3 anyways right after I receive confirmation for the I-130...that's what I was reading a lot on this site, but I'd appreciate any insight people might have.
I'd really like to try and get my wife here by April...might be a stretch, but I have to be optimistic. I've left her for 8 months before when I went to Afghanistan, but at least I knew when I could see her again as long as I didn't get killed; now I'm at the mercy of the system, and it's frustrating
Take care
