  1. Hi guys,

Sorry for taking so long to visit the site once again and post my experience. Anyways, got interviewed on 12/22/09 and had same day cerimony.

Well, it was really a journey!! A little of history first! I live in South Georgia and my local office has been Jacksonville, FL. For some reason, they sent me to Irving/Dallas, Tx. Since it was close to Xmas, I decided to fly there, stay a couple of days then fly directly to Brazil (my home country) for xmas with family and have my hubby join me late january. As a few of you know, my hubby is under a DOD contract overseas and that allowed me to file for expedited naturalization.

So, I flew in a day earlier (monday 12/21/09), got a car rental and hotel room about 8 minuted from the immigration office. My appointment was at 7:30 am and a friend kept saying the traffic in Dallas was terrible so I decided to wake up at 4:30. But hubby got messed up with time and endded up calling me at 3:30 am...bummer!! Took the time to study a little more!!

Moving on...got there around 5 am, just a few cars on the road and about 6 other vehicles already in the parking lot also waiting for their various appointments. Around 7 am, I got in and waited about 45 minutes for my appointment...waiting room was packed! Was called by my interviewer, who was a very nice and polite woman. The interview started well until she asked where I lived. When I said Georgia, hmmmm..not good!! She had to talk to her suppervisor to check if they had jurisdiction over me. She left with my appointment paper as well as drivers license and perm. resident card. A few minutes later she came back saying she would interview me but could not autorize the nat. cerimony. She also talked to the senior interviewer over there and he basically saved me!! He found out that since my husband was stationed overseas, they did have jurisdiction over me. But that was over an hour of interview altogether and by that time my interviewer had basically lost control over the appointment because she had not even finished the interview and everybody (myself included) was already assuming I had passed.

If all this drama was not enough, she had also misplaced my docs. She made me go over my purse and pockets to check if I had them with me but I assured her she had not returned my license or resident card to me. For some reason she did not go to her suppervisor's office, which I did not understand at first. She left the room and went opposite way from where she originally took my docs. A couple of minutes later her suppervisor walked in and handed me both cards. The interview lady forgot them on her boss desk! When she came back and saw the cards I told her where it was and then I found out why she did not go there in the first place: she would get a citation for misplacing my cards. BAD DEAL!!

While all this was going on, she finished the test part as well as going over my application. I passed both!!! I don't remember the questions though! Sorry guys! But whenever she entered my address to print the papers she was suppose to give me, the computer would not allow it saying they had no jurisdiction. So she had to enter the office's address in order for the computer to allow her to print the paper. Nevertheless, she was not sure she could do that. So she decided to finish my interview and let me go back to the waiting room and wait --until I don't know when-- for them to double check the address issue. As I was leaving the offices area, the senior interviewer's door was open and he called me to give me the address for the same day passport office in Dallas. I did not know that once a citizen, I could not leave the country with my Brazilian passport (am I stupid or what!!). Anyways, he asked if she gave me the papers for the afternoon oath and I explained she wanted to interview another person. He basically made her go back and finish my papers!!! I can tell she was getting P.O., she said in a funny (sarcastic) tone that I was a trouble maker!! I told her that's what my Mom always say! She then printed and gave me the papers and I came back for the oath @ 1:30 pm.

The cerimony went smoothly and the senior interviewer was there waiting for me with a printed paper of all info he had already given me in the morning. He went above and beyond his job duties to help me. I really appreciate what he's done!! Now I am a happy American citizen and my hubby will join me in a couple of weeks for his vacation!!

  3. Hey Everybody,

I received my interview letter today, to be interviewed on December 22th. Updating list.

Now here are some news, they changed my local office!!! I was kicked to Dallas, Texas. Jacksonville FL is 3 hours from my house and Atlanta, GA 4 hours. I really did not understand why they sent me 2 states away.

  4. Hi guys,

just a quick update on my process. On 11/11/09 I got out of USCIS limbo and was moved to testing and interview. No letter yet, but I noticed my file is being touched every day for the last 3 days. We'll see what happens next.

    Thanks,

  5. JUST VENTING!!!

My case is in the USCIS Limbo for the time being!!! I'm so upset!!! I started my process on sept. 1st and there's even another member with a time frame that was really similar to mine until the fingerprinting date. I called the FBI and my file was sent to them and they sent back to USCIS on the same date of my fingerprinting appointment. So I called uscis customer service and they said a RFE would be sent out to me so my process could get back on track. A few days later (sept. 30th) I received an email from them stating that they made a mistake. Below is what they say:

The status of this service request is:

We apologize for the error on USCIS Case Status Online that states you were mailed an RFE notice requesting additional evidence on Form N-400, Application for Naturalization. This is a service error. The notice that was mailed out was your Biometric Appointment Notice with your local ASC which you may have already attended. Your application is currently pending and will be worked in the order it was received by USCIS. Again we apologize for the error and any inconvenience it may have caused you.

Since then, no news at all!!! NADA!! I applied for the Expedited Naturalization and they usually process this one within 2 weeks. And I'm still here waiting for this paper so I can finally reunite with my hubby...it's been 6 month already that I don't see him...just waiting and waiting!!! Sorry about the complaint, but I had to vent to somebody else other than him!!!

    Hi Raleigh2009,

The last time I had an LUD was on November 3rd. Since then nothing has happened!!!

    Hi All,

Do the interview letters come from the service center or the office fields? I am still waiting for the IL since 10-28 when I got the email notification that my case was transferred to the office field ( San Francisco). Any one?

    Thanks,

The letters are sent from NSC, not local office. Have you checked your LUD online? My LUD was last changed on the day the letter was sent out. If your LUD is still changing, that probably means they are still working on your interview date. If it already stopped changing, that means the letter is on the way to your mail box.

  6. You cannot travel to the USA, marry, and stay there. That is visa fraud and could result in a lifelong ban!

Your options are for him to apply for a K1 fiancee visa, which takes on average about 6-8 months from the UK. Then you move to the USA, get married, apply for AOS (takes about 3 months), and then you can work, travel etc. Other option is to get married either while on holidays in the USA or when he visits you, then you go back to the UK, and he petitions for a CR-1 spousal visa. It takes a little longer (8 months or so) on average, but once you get it and move to the USA, you are done with paperwork for 2 years, no AOS needed.

I don't see how she would be commiting fraud if she has a valid tourist visa and while in the States decides to get married and just adjust her status with immigration. A friend of mine did the same and he's already a citizen. Maybe there's a law for this case, I just never heard anything about it.

  7. According to the instructions you have to put his daughter in the list (same happened to me...hubby has 2 kids, so I did include their names and address). But I have been reading different interview experiences on different forums and somebody's interviewer said it was not necessary. Well, I'd say include her name. Better safe than sorry.

I am completing my N-400 application as we speak. I tried finding an answer before posting this but I read too many things.

Part 9 is asking about your children. Well I dont have any on my own with my husband but he has a daughter.

I did not adopt her. Do I need to list her?

    Thanks!!!

  8. Hey guys,

I just went to my portfolio account and saw there was a request for evidence that supposedly was sent to me on sept.10th. Well, after this date I received the fp notice and went to the appointment without any problems but never received this request for evidence. Any thoughts??

  9. Hi, I just applied for naturalization according this section of the 319 b of the INA. My husband is a contractor for the govenment in Qatar. It looks like you will fall under the same section. The information about this expeditious naturalization is scarce so you might want to include as much info as you can. I sent the papers on the 1st of September, they received on the 3rd, on the 9th I received the NOA and the fingerprinting appointment paper yesterday, sept 17th. I included a notarized letter addressed to the USCIS explaining why I was applying for the expeditious process and choosing the uscis in texas to process the request, a letter from the company my husband works for, the contract, passport pics (not sure if they needed that but sent anyways) in addition to the regular documents requested. I also sent a certified check from the bank instead of my regular check to make it even faster. Regular checks takes days to clear as opposed to a certified check that is money per se. They also ask for you to identify your packet as a "Expeditious Naturalization" so it will not go with the rest of the others. Things seem to be running fast an smoothly to me. But you have to have in mind that the expeditious naturalization does not mean your process will run fast, just that the 3 year requirement to apply for the naturalization will be waived. Now, depending on the Lockbox you send your papers to as well as your local uscis office, the process might be really fast or take longer. Offices in certain places such as Fairfax, VA has a team especialized in this type of naturalization, so everything is really fast and chances are that you might do the oath part in the same day if you get approved. On the other hand, if you fall under an office that does not deal with this expedited naturalization, your process might take as long as the rest of others.

I hope this info helps. If you send me a pvt message I can send you a copy of my letter to them.

    • Your U.S. citizen spouse must be “regularly stationed abroad” as:

  10. Your time without a visa was almost none, so I do not foresee problems. Right now, you are "pending" as in, you're ok.

As far as to going to Brazil in December; make sure you have your Advanced Parole document (or hopefully your AOS completed). If you leave without the AP, you will not be allowed back in.

    Best of luck menina.

Im just not sure if they can help me with this kind of information. Let me know.

    Thank you again!

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but if I was you I would not leave the country without your permanent resident card in hand, or at least the appointment letter with the biometrics stamp on it. Not because they won't let you leave the US, but the airline company or the immigration itself when you land in the US might not let you in. Like you I am Brazilian. And my husband and I just had the chance to have our wedding in Rio recently. I left the country with an expired resident card but I had already showed up for the biometrics to remove resident conditions (I-751), so I had the I-751 receipt notice as well as the biometrics appointment in hand. I had no problems with immigration itself but the airline rep. at the counter made more questions than usual. You should file I-485 asap. You don't have to wait for the I-130 receipt. My hubby and I filed them together and had no problem. They will send you notice for the next step as soon as you complete the previous step. We even filed a work authorization permit --which I did not need since I had the permanent resident card -- and lost some money on the deal.
