  1. Hi,

Provided that the police certificate is just for the UK, you can obtain it from ACPO in a couple of weeks: http://www.acpo.police.uk/certificates.asp

If your GP provided you with all the shots then you should be able to obtain a vaccination record from them which you should take to your medical. If you do require any of the shots, your GP should be able to do them or they can be done at the medical.

You will need the full birth certificate that shows your parents details for your interview. You can obtain it, either from the local Registrar from the district that you were bon in or online from the General Register Office: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

    Hope this helps!

    Dom

Yes, it's just for the UK; thanks for the link(s). Do you have any idea which shots I will need? Or is there a way of finding out? Or is it merely a matter of making an appointment with my GP and asking him to update me with all my shots, if so, is it normally all done at once?

Thank you for the information, you've both been a lot of help.

Below is the link to the Medical Information...read through it and you will find the portion about the injections. We printed that page and took it to the GP and they updated my husband with what he was missing and then provided us with a listing of all the injections he has received.

  2. Hi,

If you've received your Packet 3, and thus have your case number, I urge you to book and have your medical as soon as you can.

According to the girl I spoke to at Knightsbridge Doctors today, the new rules at the Embassy require that you not only have your medical before your interview (so no more "approved pending medical results"), the results have to get to the Embassy before you get there (which takes up to five days!). They must be with the Consular Officer by the time of your interview.

I waited until I received my interview letter to book the medical, and it's only by the grace of God that I was able to get an appointment in time... don't make my mistake!

There is a bulletin on the USEM London website to this effect. It states the medical must be a minimum of a week before your interview (allowing the working days for the results to be transferred).

We've just had our Visa approved pending medical results on Wednesday of this week. I think they are wanting people to not wait until the last minute but if you genuinly tried, you won't be cast aside for it. You can't book until you get the case number anyhow but as soon as it is received, you should make the appointment.

  3. Getting myself confused here!

We live together in the UK (I am the USC). On our I-130 we put our address as our UK address. I think on the I 864 form we need to do something different though so that we can try and prove domicile in the US?!

For mailing address I put our UK address. Do I put our US address for the place of residence? I know I need to put USA for question 15, country of domicile, is this correct?

I own a home in the US and we will be kicking out our rentor and moving back in ourselves, but we won't be moving until my husband get's his visa(God willing) and then we will all be moving over together.

I am the USC and live in the UK. We just did out Visa interview yesterday and they didn't hardly look at the form...they just checked the dollar amount. I am assuming you are filing DCF? I put my UK mailing address and country of residence as UK since that is currently where I live. I don't really think it makes a huge difference though.

  4. Can anyone clear this up?? i've looked at previous threads on this, and people seem to say that 2 american sized passport photos are needed.

is this true? the information on the embassy website says i need 3.

i went to a very surreal place on oxford street, up about 5 flights of stairs, to this little room where i got 2 photos for £6. it took literally less than 2 minutes to have the photos taken, developed and pay for them! i was very impressed :) but anyway, should i have got 3??

It depends on what you are doing and what type of visa I suppose. We are doing a CR1 and we needed 4 in total...one for the Bio, one for the Dr., and two to take with us to the interview.

  5. Just a little bit of background...

About 5 years ago, my fiance was into self harming (he was a cutter). After a visit to his GP and some other help, he stopped, and hasn't done it in about 4 years. However, it is on his medical record from having seen his GP. So, on the medical questionnaire, when it asks "Have you ever caused harm to yourself or others?" he marked yes, so as to be as honest as possible, and wrote a brief explanation regarding the situation.

So when he had his medical exam today, they questioned him on it. Now they want him to take a form to his GP to have them sign it to state that he is not going to need any psychiatric help in the future. Until he gets that form back to them, they won't send his medical results to the Embassy.

He called his GP immediately and they stated that they could not get him in until November 27th. I advised him to call the Knightsbridge doctors and let them know it was going to be a couple weeks.

I didn't think it was really going to be a problem as he no longer does it, and hasn't in some time. Anyone else hear about something like that causing issues? Otherwise, his exam was fine and all of his vaccinations were in order.

Are there any additional steps we should take except for notifying Knightsbridge that it will be a couple of weeks?

    Thanks everyone.

My husband just had his medical on Monday and listed a medication he was on for a sleep disorder he has. The doctor was familiar with the disorder but gave us a letter requesting information from the neurologist. The Knightbridge doc stated the medical would be held until the further informaton was received. They said once they get the info they need, then they send their assessment to the Embassy. It shouldn't be a problem if your interview is far off. Our is on Wednesday so they said if everything else is fine, then we would get approved pending medical results. We have been on top of the neuro since Tues and still have nothing to send to them. They told us to call back on Mon to see if the letter is ready to be sent.

Hope this helps...it seems to be quite common...more of a CYA for the Knightbridge docs more than anything I suppose.

  6. The letter states that she need to give advance notice for someone coming with her, can I go as her husband to the interview or i wont be allowed in the interview ??

I just asked the same question as I didn't get a letter stating I would be attending with my husband and our interview is next week. The answer I got was the Embassy has two entrances...one for immigrants and one for US personnel. You have to enter separately...the applicant takes the paperwork and goes through the immirgant side and you need to go through the US personnel side and state the reason you are there and should not be an issue.

  7. Just wanted to let everyone know that Matt has his medical exam in London on Thursday the 12th. He's pretty nervous, even though he has no reason to be. But, I get it's all a little overwhelming. Just asking for your well wishes all! We're nearly to the interview stage!

I think the experience depends on the doc you get. My hubby had his this past Monday and it was brutal. The doc was very rude but he could have just been having a bad day. My husband asked if I could come in with him. We weren't sure if I'd be allowed or not so he asked. The doc responded with "Absolutely not!" I thought he could have said something nicer like "it's best she waits outside" or "it's generally not allowed." But then he was very condescending to me husband about his medical stuff. He has a sleep disorder and takes meds for it. He told the doc about it. He knows what meds he's on but not the mg dosage so he asked the doc if he could go to the waiting room to ask me. The doc made a stupid comment stating "does your wife control your medicine for you or do you?"

He may have just been having a bad day but he was very rude and it was not a fun experience...very trying. It's good it wasn't me because I probably would have told him off and that would not put us closer to a visa...lol. The check in staff was very nice though and there were several docs there.

    Good luck!

  8. We submitted Packet 3 info around 22 Oct and received Packet 4 with the interview date in the mail on Wed I believe. Our interview date is 18 Nov 09.

Cool - it seems to have been really quiet on the Embassy side recently. I'm hoping that we'll hear something from them soon to as it's been almost 3 weeks since we mailed the checklist now.

SunnyLee Out of curiosity what travel date did you put on your DS-2001? Nov 18th is our daughters birthday so I hope that it'll be a day of celebration for you and your other half too!!

30 nov is our travel date. FIngers crossed we will get approved!

  9. So since I'm currently not so patiently awaiting on our "Packet 4" to arrive from London I was just wondering where they might be at calendar-wise as far as interview dates go.

Anyone with upcoming interviews what dates are they giving out?

I know the whole process can be compared to "how long is a ball of string" but it helps pass the time trying to work out when the big day might arrive - if that makes any sense.

We submitted Packet 3 info around 22 Oct and received Packet 4 with the interview date in the mail on Wed I believe. Our interview date is 18 Nov 09.

  10. London is a low fraud embassy so you are "likely" to be approved...however.

They will never..EVER...tell you whether you are going to be approved until you have your interview. Expecting them to give you an answer now is like expecting them not to do their job properly.

I'm sure you'll be fine, but nothing is guaranteed until the words come out of the CO's mouth. Speculation and expectation are natural, but dont expect a guarantee until 18th Nov.

    Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply...what does "low fraud" in regards to the embassy mean though?

  11. So our journey has been a rather short one. We married on 7 Sep, filed on 11 Sep and we already have our interview date on 18 Nov. I am military and am leaving the UK on 30 Nov...this is the reason we were able to get everything done so quickly. We have already completed a waiver packet because my husband was convicted of assault 8 years ago. We have the police cert and everything else that needs to be done. I have prepared a lengthy hardship letter and we are prepared to present the waiver packet at the interview when he gets denied (fingers crossed hoping he's not going to).

I was wondering if there was anyone in a similar situation. Because of the circumstances, we have a liaison at the Embassy who we send everything to and they e-mail and place in our case. The guy we are interviewing with at the Embassy already has the police cert and is fully aware of the circumstances. We keep trying to push to see if we can get an answer from him stating whether or not he thinks we will be denied. He only keeps saying, "a decision cannot be reached until the day of the interview." I know this is the standard answer but they have already seen the police cert.

What the spouse and I were thinking is why would they rush to make the interview so quickly if they are planning on denying us? Could this be a sign that they are going to go ahead and approve since a waiver packets for me would be approved anyway due to my active duty status??? The date of the interview would allow for the 5 days after to get the visa (:)) back to us.

Any help or insight would be much appreciated. Again, I already have the waiver packet prepared and my letter has been edited by the wonderful people over on immigrate2us, but we'd like to not go through all that for an approval in the end anyway!

    Thanks:)

  12. Sharo,

Have you sent DS 230 and DS 2001 back yet? Do you have an interview date yet? Just wondering how long from when you send these two docs until they send you and interview date?

Angel...how did you get your NOA2 so fast? I filed the same date as you. I got my NOA1 in the mail on 8 Oct and I still sit here today waiting for my NOA2 so I can have my case number to schedule the Dr appt and send the forms in which are already prepared so we can get the interview going. We are due to leave on 30 Nov.

    Thanks!

  13. Inappropriate post removed and warning given.

There is a VJ member Marie620. Her English fiance had a DUI and he was denied at interview stage. If you do a search on her name you should find a few threads concerning her story.

    Good luck

I was trying to find her posts yesterday, but there's a 6 month limit on the search feature at the moment. I tried to find her in the members list but she doesn't seem to be there?

Thanks...I found a few posts from her and what she said was her husband stated her consumed 20 pints per week when he went to the medical. I am sure this was an overstatement or maybe he was just being honest. My husband still drinks, but he does it very rarely and when he does, it's one or two. His therapist has helped him find why he does it and they were real about it. She told him alcohol abuse was not his main issue, it was a control issue with anger he's had so she helped him work through how to consume alcohol responsibly like most people. And he does. He's made great improvements and I'm so proud of him!

I submitted my question to Laurel Scott so I'll see what she says and post the response here should someone else have the same question in the future.

    Thanks again!

  14. I am not sure about this but have you gotten the paperwork yet to do so? My husband and I just did this and they require someone to sign that knows you and sign a passport size photo of you as well. I would assume you just get it sent to where you live now or maybe to your parents address if they still live in the UK. My husband requested the police cert prior to us getting married and had it sent to his address but now he is living with me so his address has changed.

  15. My husband received his British police certificate in the mail and has several cautions on it (4 or 5 I think) related to alcohol. The most recent one was last year. He doesn't have an "abuse" issue per se, meaning he isn't a drunk. On occassion, he would go out with his mates and get drunk and run into someone looking for a fight or what have you. Being intoxicated he just couldn't refuse (and I feel like I should kick him now). Anywho...long story short, he has been seeing a therapist and hasn't drank in some time. Would these cautions cause him to de denied? His therapist doesn't want to see him anymore because she considers him to be rehabilited but he enjoys talking with her so he still goes. But at each visit she attempts to get him to stop coming...weird relationship there...lol! Back on track...sorry...would having a letter from his therapist stating he is rehabilitated be helpful in not getting denied or will he still get denied and then have to submit a waiver.

He also has a conviction on his record from when he lived in Sweden. We have the police cert for that as well. It was assault and he spent 40 days of a 60 day sentence in a overnight prison (meaning he could check out during the day he just had to be back for nightly roll call and sleep there).

I've read all about the alcohol provisions and the conviction provisions in the regulations. I'm mainly looking for personal experience.

    Thanks:)

  16. Hi All! My fiance has already ordered all his police records for the various places he has lived. We know there is going to be stuff on them and we are trying to make sure we have everything we need lined up so as the packets start coming through we can send them back straight away. My question is, has anyone had to request copies of court records for the UK or Sweden? We are unsure how to do this and are looking for some guidance.

We visited the Swedish Police page and that only shows how to order the police certificate. Any help or guidance would be great!

    Thanks...

    Hi,

I'm going to be doing this this week myself. Here is a link to the form: http://www.acpo.police.uk/certificates.asp

It looks like money+signed photo+utilitybill = police certificate

Thanks...we already got this far...just waiting for the police cert to come back. We already know there is going to be stuff on it. We are looking to see if someone could direct us on how to obtain copies of the court records for the stuff on the police cert.

    Thanks...

Just curious...can I ask what the affidavits requested are for? We haven't gotten this far yet. We are getting married on 7 Sep and then will sumbit the I-130 as soon as we get the marriage cert in the mail. I am leaving in Nov so we want to get as much done as we can before I go.

  18. We never received a card confirming they got our material either. My husband had his interview in London on May 16, 2008 and sent our I-601 package in on May 17th. I've read on the London site that they send out cards confirming receipt of waiver packets, but he never got one. Every week we checked the website, our number finally showed up on the list on June 9th. We were told at the interview "it can take up to 15 weeks to review". I've been counting from the June 9th date, our 15th week will be the 22nd of this month. However, we have not moved from pending to review yet.

I would like to know from others who have been through this process in London, how long it took them.

Good luck to you and check the website to track your progress.

Can I ask why you were denied?? My fiance has some simple assault convictions and I am curious if his waiver will be denied. We haven't filed for one yet but I am sure they are going to want one.

    Thanks

  19. We haven't even gotten to this point yet but it was mentioned to me and now I am curious as ever about it. My fiance (sson to be hubby on 7 Sep) has two convictions on his record. We will be filinf DCF as soon as we get the marriage certificate back in the mail. These convictions are so minor they bother me and make me wonder if they are going to make it so he can't get into the US. Here's the story:

Fiance lived in Sweden approximately 5-8 years ago for a period of three years. During that time he was involved in two separate assaults. The first was a minor assault between he and someone else. Swedish law is very strict. he served two months in a minimum security jail...seriously...he could leave during the day he just had to spend the night there...that's how minimum it was! If he were in the UK or the US, he would have received a warning for what occured. The second assault occured a few years later and it was a tussle between he and a friend. Because it happened outside, someone called the cops. The friend didn't want to press charges and asked repeatedly for them to be dropped but the police would not do so. This was 5+ years ago.

I know that it is all dependent on the visa person at the time of the interview and nothing can be determined until then but has anyone been through the waiver process or have similar circumstances???

I am worried because I am leaving the UK in Nov and know we will already have to spend sometime apart until the Visa application is completed but will the waiver thing take longer and what are the chances of it getting approved??? Will sworn statements from the witnesses and parties involved aid or be useless?

    Thanks

  20. Hi there! I am brand new to this site and have only heard of DCF yesterday. I have several questions and am hoping to get them answered quickly.

    1. Do I qualify for DCF?? I am a US military member residing in the UK and have been here for 3+ years. I think this qualifies me, no?

    2. The initial form, the petition (129/130??), does it have to be filed after marriage or can it be filed prior to marriage?

    3. Police checks...I read on one site they do this for you, but I see others talking about doing it on their own. How do we go about getting these police checks? Is there a site that will explain all that to us?? He lived in Sweden for a bit, will we have to have police checks done for there too?

    4. About 10 years ago, he was arrested for simple assault charges. It was something very stupid and if he were in the US, he wouldn't have even gotten a second look over the incident. Will this cause the process to take longer or will he be denied for something like this??

    5. On average, how long does the process take? I read somewhere that London is very proficient in this process and does a good job on getting them out the door quickly. I am seeing an average of 6 weeks...is that about right? The reason I ask, is I am leaving soon and would very much like to travel with my new spouse but will understand if I can't, but I also don't want to be waiting for years for him to be able to join me in the US.

Thanks in advance for everyone's help!!!! I'm sure I will have tons more questions later:)

You can start here and work your way through the links on the right side; they'll walk you through the whole thing and lead you to the special checklist you need to use to submit the petition in London.

    Spouse & Fiancé(e) Visas

Typical London cases are 5 months.

With the past arrest, he'll want to get the MOC if possible and be ready to show the conclusion of his case.

oh, for the Sweden police cert, google 'reciprocity schedule' and go to the travel.state.gov result.

Thanks...We ordered the police cert today from Sweden. Also, you say the average processing time is 5 months. Is that in general because we qualify for expedited service since I am a military member with a new assignment.

    Thanks...

  21. Yes please, for the love of God, make sure you have filed your taxes, dont mess up like me ;)

LOL...thanks. We were concerned because he works a flex job and they don't have work for him for the next two weeks so he was going to file a claim to receice government benefits from the UK. We didn't want to do the claim if it was going to mess the chances up because I know I have to prove financial stability as the USC. We just weren't sure if he had to as well but that doesn't seem to be the case.

    Thanks again!

  22. Thanks all for the responses. I found the forms for the legal certificates and we are going to do those first to see what comes up on those. Unfortunately, he was required to go to a very minimum secure jail for 2 months time for the assault. I couldn't believe it because it was so minor. They would have just cautioned him here in the UK. Anywho...another question. I know that I have to provide financial documentation to show that I can support him in the US. Is he required to submit this type of documentation as well? I can't seem to find a checklist for the entire process...only for the I-130.

    Thanks...
