  1. officer was wrong, at CBP. This particular thing is worth actually going INTO secondary and talking with a shift supervisor at the POE, but you not do that.

IMO, the best and fastest way to correct this, is to get into yet another CBP office, talk with the shift supervisor, and ask the shift supervisor to update the SAVE record and give you a different stamp.

No appointment needed, no need to telephone for confirmation - just pick up and go, taking passport and marriage certificate.

You can choose an office at a POE at an airport, or get into 'deferred inspection' office also.

IMO, Infopass with USCIS won't correct this, at all.

face to face at CBP office, will correct this.

Unfortunately, the CBP officer who did my paperwork was the supervisor. I will try going into the POE office at the airport.

    Thank you for the advice!

  2. I've searched the forums and found some information but wanted to clarify.

At the time my visa was issued, I was married less than 2 years; at the time of POE, I was married more than 2 years.

The officer told me they had to comply with whatever the visa was listed as - in my case, CR-1; and that they didn't make the decision about whether we qualified for a 10 year greencard or not - that was USCIS's decision. So, my visa is stamped with a CR-1.

I haven't received my greencard yet. Will USCIS automatically correct this? Or will I need to file the I-90 for a correction? And am I understanding correctly that since this would be their error, there shouldn't be any fee charged?

  3. I had to fly to Montreal from Alberta. Because my interview was scheduled for a Tuesday, I ended up staying in Montreal for a week. I flew in the previous Tuesday, had my medical on the Wednesday and picked it up on the Monday. It's not ideal but was worth it in the end.

I was able to book the Best Western Hotel Europa for under $70 a night. The flight was pricier at $600.

    Good luck!

  4. Submit your payment after receiving your visa package from DOS and before you depart for the United States.[/i][/b]

This is true - the letter they enclose also gives you the website to pay it on - by US bank account or credit card. I paid mine while I had the money.

After the move in May, we'll have spent almost $4,000:

    i-130 $420

    passport photos $30

    police clearance certificate $25

    birth certificate $10

    AOS $88

    IV $230

Flight to Montreal Free (thank you airmiles)

    Hotel, food, taxis $1,000

Medical $271 (I needed the flu shot)

    Greencard fee $165

    U-Haul and gas (in May)$1600

    TOTAL: $3,839.00

  5. I had it say undeliverable every day for almost a week. I called and they told me it was ready for pickup even though it said undeliverable. I ended up just driving down to the location and sure enough, it was there waiting for me. I could've had it almost a week earlier too! If it's not too far away I wouldn't wait for a call but just go down and check. :)

Trust me, I wanted to but it was a 3 1/2 hour drive away! They ended up calling me that afternoon and it was delivered yesterday!

I also received the new Processing Fee Letter from USCIS - a new fee of $165 to be paid by all immigrant visas granted after February 1, 2013. ..sigh.. Paid it and added it to my long list of expenses :)

  6. Update:

I called the loomis number and was told that the US Consulate/Loomis does not work by telephone - only by the csc@loomis-express.com email. He suggested I send another (that will be 3 now) email to them and they will contact me.

We waited so long to finally have the interview that waiting to get the Visa in hand is torture. /sigh. :( Venting over. I'll now wait (not so) patiently for them to call me.

  7. Just curious if anyone else has had issues with this branch? My waybill showed up online on February 21 and I immediately emailed Loomis to deliver it to me. I received the auto-reply from Loomis but no call for payment yet.

The waybill information says it was "undeliverable" on Feb. 21 and again this morning.

    Thank you :)

  8. I was there last week for my interview and stayed at the Best Western Downtown Hotel Europa on Drummond Street. It was a 10 minute walk to both Medisys and the Consulate. Also, it's just off St. Catherines which is a great shopping area. I paid $84 a night with my CAA membership. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. There are 2 restaurants downstairs and a small convenience store in the lobby.

    I'd definitely stay there again.

  9. I called the GM number today to find out about what I need for the compliance letter.

905-440-7689 is the number to call. http://www.vintagevehicleservices.com/ is the web site.

The gentleman I spoke to looked up my car based on my VIN to make sure there were no compliance issues.

They emailed the form I need which can be faxed or sent by regular post back. They don't want it back by email because you need to include credit card info to have it processed.

The fee as of today is $101.70 and they will email a soft copy and mail a hard copy. The turn it around within a couple days so I'm going to hold off on this particular task until after my interview.

Just thought I'd share in case anyone has a GM vehicle to drag along with them.

That is great information! I knew in the back of my head that I'd have to do this eventually but it everything seems to be happening so fast lately. :) Thank you!

  10. I am also in Alberta and my interview is February 19, 2013 in Montreal. I found that it was cheaper (for me) to book my medical for the week before and stay a week in Montreal. I scheduled my medical yesterday for February 13 as they said they require 3 full business days before I could pick up the results. I used Aeroplan miles for my flight and reserved a room at the Best Western Montreal Europa (an 8 minute drive from the consulate) for $750.00. It's more than I wanted to spend but it has to be done and the end result is worth it.

    Good luck!

Edited - Also, Medisys in Montreal quoted me $247.00 as long as my vaccinations were up to date.

  11. Hello Everyone,

I have a quick question regarding re-newing my passport... Not sure if anyone will know and if not I will just call Passport Canada. I am wondering if when I re-new my passport to show my married name if I am required to send in our marriage certificate? I know we have to send in our original birth certificate and not a copy, I'm just not sure about the marriage one. And I absolutely HATE sending originals... Its annoying and stressful. Any help on this matter would be great! I want to get it done soon so we are all prepared when we get our NOA2 (which won't be for God only knows how long :( ).

    C

I just did this in August. You have to do a new application, not just a renewal and yes, you'll need a certified copy of your marriage certificate. I had mine notarized and sent it with the application. If you've been married before you'll need certified copies of your divorce decree as well. I sent mine in and had it back in 15 days. :)

Hope this helps and good luck with the passport and with NOA2!

  12. I'm bringing originals of everything so I have them in case they want to see them AND copies of each item so they can keep them which I believe they do. Being able to email them and file electronically is great but we are still required to have the ACTUAL documents.

I understood they needed the ACTUAL documents including the original AOS, I just didn't know about the transcripts themselves. The AOS does say "copies attached" so I'm not worried and the interview list does say copies. I have originals of everything else and plan to brings copies of everything as well.

  13. Hello there!

I too am trying to figure out exactly what documents I need from my fiance for my interview. According to the Appointment Checklist on Montreal's website, a photocopy of the IRS transcript is sufficient. Since I tend to worry about...oh, everything, I am planning on bringing the original but also having a photocopy as well. I'm applying for a K1 and that was the information on the Fiance Checklist, I'm not sure if it would be different for different visas though. Have you looked at the checklists on Montreal's website?

Also, we have the same interview date in Montreal :)

I had my medical in Toronto today and everything went smoothly as far as I could tell. Now I'm counting the days until February 19!

Good luck figuring everything out, it's almost over!

You're right, it was on there. In my excitement I must have scanned right past it! Photocopies are acceptable.

I'll probably see you there then! I'm currently booking my medical hopefully for the week before; I'll be flying in from Alberta so I'll be there a few days :)

Good luck to you too! I can't wait for it to be complete!!!!

  14. I did do a search but couldn't really find anything that confirmed whether I needed originals of my husband's tax transcripts for the interview or if the emailed copies are good enough. My interview is February 19, 2013 so I have some time if he has to send originals. I have the original AOS just not the transcripts.

    Thank you!

  15. ***Just received our email from NVC - Interview date scheduled for February 19, 2013 at 8:30am! OMG OMG OMG! I have never shaken so much in my life!

  17. If you already sent the DS-3032, skip the DS-261 as it's the same form (just different methods of sending it).

If you want to do electronic processing (emailing packages), then yes, you have to send an optin email. Sounds like you've found my wiki, so just follow the optin instructions :)

The optin email is still necessary for Canadians as EP is still optional.

I did find in your wiki that the optin email was still required so I emailed it yesterday. I can't believe I didn't find this sooner.

    Thank you! :)

  18. I did find it, thank you :) I also found another thread that said if they accepted the DS-3032, do not send in the DS-261.

Thank you for confirming the OptIn!

  19. I've read a couple threads about the Optin email but I can't seem to get it straight in my head.

After calling NVC, I received my case # and Invoice ID #. I emailed the DS-3032 to NVC (because I didn't read the wiki for canadians).

Do I still need to send an OPTIN email and the DS-261?

We did receive the confirmation email and IV email from NVC yesterday but I'm unsure. We haven't received anything by regular mail.

I'm sorry for the confusion and thank you in advance for the help!
