  1. I call BS. Troll anyone? 6 cars, several properties, lots of land, etc... and we're talking about qualifying for 125% of the poverty level? Unless the land is a remote region of Antartica, the cars were demolished 50 years ago in the local wrecking yard, and the properties have been foreclosed upon by the bank, I personally find this topic to be outrageously ridiculous.

Sounds to me like her fiance has an inheritance that includes some cash and land, but doesn't earn a lot of money on his own. I don't see anything ridiculous about it all. I have a number of friends who don't earn much, but inherited their parent's estate when the last surviving parent died. This left them with cash and assets, but didn't change their ongoing income.

this is exactly right! I just didn't know if it went on assets ASWELL as income.. or just income.. now i do

    Thank you for your post

  2. he doesn't have a great income.. so im guessing the 5xassets would have to be included.. would it be safe to get a co-sponsor also?.. or will the assets be enough?

sorry for all the question, just like to get it straight. lol. thanks

To clarify - take the difference between what the minimum requirement is (for a household size of 3) and what he earns - that is the amount his assets would need to make up.

The calculation is (for him sponsoring his spouse) is 3x (not 5x). So if he needed to make up $2,000 for example, he would need to show $6000 in liquid assets.

Without knowing all the numbers - it may very well be a good idea to simply secure a co-sponsor rather than go through all the trouble of proving the value of assets - and possibly have the Embassy/Consulate still ask for a co-sponsor in the end.

    Just my opinion of course..

now im confused.. as this link http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=support states it is 5x.

Take the advice given "Without knowing all the numbers - it may very well be a good idea to simply secure a co-sponsor rather than go through all the trouble of proving the value of assets - and possibly have the Embassy/Consulate still ask for a co-sponsor in the end".

    thank you very much though

thank you all very much... :)

  3. ive been told several times that you do not need the vaccine until AOS..

if you are to be 27.. you could wait a few days after and then apply for AOS.. that way, you will not need the vaccine as you are 27

Thank you! Yay! I just saved myself money! At the medical, do they try and insist you have the vaccine there and then though? Just for information...

Im not 100% sure but I do know that someone said that it is definitely not needed for K-1... its only needed for AOS so i shouldn't think they can force it upon u.

You can have it over in the US.. its cheaper also. (and u only need to prove to them that youve had the first part of it at your AOS interview)

  4. Hi everyone, my fiance and I have had our NOA1 back in July but are still waiting on the NOA2. We are making plans for the wedding for the end of June next year. My 27th birthday will be on July 7th. Does anyone know if I will need the HPV vaccine or not? I estimate my medical will be around February time or so...? If the vaccine is needed for AOS, can't we just file for AOS on 7th July instead of the day after the wedding? If I can get out of it, I'd be happy!

  6. to you Zen Den, thank you so much..i really appreciated the comment..its help me a lot..if someone out there who have a similar case like me, sharing your experience will be greatly appreciated..god bless

I am also in your situation..

I have a 3 year old daughter.. her fathers never been in her life, ever. He doesn't pay maintenance or anything. I am the only one who has raised her. He's not on her birth certificate.. and she has my surname.

This thread has helped me as i was very confused where to get this 'notorised letter' from. Now i will contact the courts here and see if i can get a court statement :)

    thank you

  7. is only him at the moment..

and myself and my daughter moving

In that case - his calculations should always be based on a household size of 3.

    thank you very much.

  8. thank you for the link..

so basically if he earns over $13537.50 a year.. hes 125% above the poverty line?

does it go on assets also?.. or only income? thank you

I'm not sure? Whats the Sponsor's household size? do you have kids? http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=support

125% over the fed. poverty line

    2) 18.212

    3) 22,887

    4) 27,562

    thanks guys :D

  9. You should definitely pay attention to getting a notarized letter for the Embassy regarding your child's father.

My parents neighbour is a solicitor.. would she be able to 'notorise' the letter?

  10. NVC and/ or the embassy will likely require something official... either a notarised letter from the biological father authorising the child to move abroad, or a document from court stating that you are free to remove the child from the jurisdiction.

theres no way i can get a letter from him.. i dont know who he is

I'm with you on this - although I don't know the next steps - I can not imagine needing a statement from anyone will be required since the father is not noted on the BC. (Even if you did know him but he wasn't on the BC.)

    thank you very much..

i didn't think i'd need any kind of statement..

i'm thinking of emailing the embassy however :)

  12. Ok so my 3 year old daughter is moving to the US with me on a K-1..

I've heard I may need a letter from her biological father stating that he gives consent for her to move there..

however, it was a one night thing between myself and him and i have no contact with him whatsoever.. know nothing about him.

do i still need a letter ?.. maybe i can write one myself?

  13. You might want to e-mail the embassy to ask about that though... there have been a few threads here with folks in similar situations. From what I've reread it looks like you might need to write a letter stating that the father has had no contact with the child and have it notarized- even if he's not listed on the birth certificate. I'll paste the relevant threads below for you to come to your own conclusions but better safe than sorry I think.

thank you, i think i will write that letter. I barely know anything about him.. have no way of contacting him..

when do i send the letter?.. or do i take it to the interview?

  14. Hi.. this is a bit of a delicate subject..

i had chlamydia in late 2007, was treated for it with the pills they gave me.. and have not had it since..

will this affect my K-1 visa application?.. i mean, at the medical they ask if you have ever had an STI.. will it affect the outcome.. or delay it in anyway?

    thanks

  15. Ok.. I think i'm being really dumb here..

    but..

do you have to get the HPV vaccine BEFORE you go to the medical..

or can you have it whilst there?

you could do either or.. you can wait until you're here in the states. At the medical they will give you the option to have it there (the first of the three shots) or to have it later (before your AOS interview). I decided to wait as it's covered by hubby's insurance from work, with just a 20$ co-pay instead of the £120 odd they wanted at the medical. I seem to remember that the nurse noted something on the forms saying needed for AOS but K1 clear/passed something like that.

And technically you only have to have started the course of vaccinations before your AOS interview, I've heard of others that only had the first shot and didn't continue and didn't have any trouble. We figured as it was covered by our insurance here to go ahead and finish the course, no sense starting something just for the benefit of the USCIS/Embassy and not get the benefits of the vaccination too

thank you so much, i might wait until AOS also then :)c

  16. Myself and Robb.. when we first started out a year ago (a whole year already!!).. I'd use my landline to call his cell.. and i was getting phone bills of £150+ a month.. it was ridiculous lol..

then I went onto the international plan.. which really wasn't any better, as I used it more and more, thinking it'd be cheaper lol.

Finally, I stumbled across Vonage.. i now pay £6.99 a month.. and am able to call him anytime i want, for as long as i want.. and i LOVE it.. it's saved me HUGE amounts of money!!

The other ways we use to communicate are quite cool..

Usually from about 3pm my time (10am his).. we're on the videocall on MSN (much like skype but better quality).. i can have him on the whole of my screen.. and the sound is perfect, neither of us have a headset so we can walk about and get on with our daily things whilst the other is there.. it's just like being in the same room :).. this lasts until about 2 or 3am my time.. so a good 12 hrs!! (insane i knoww lol)

It's a great way to communicate as even my 3 year old has realised.. she'll run into the room and shout at him, or tell him things.. she loves it too!

Other than that.. we watch movies together, using the webcam and audio so that we're both on the exact same part of the movie and i love it when we both laugh at a certain part of the film. We also text.. he's on Virgin Mobile in the US and i'm on o2 here in the UK.. he has an unlimited plan.. and for some reason when I send him messages it bounces off a UK satellite.. sending my text to his cell FOR FREE!!.. i have no idea how i swindelled that!..

We go into chat rooms together.. find clips on youtube to watch together..

there's plenty of things we do together.. it's great.. it's wonderful to know he's in the background :)
