  1. Ok so we decided to go to the SS office today and the SS lady was nice enough to give us our # - woo hoo! we got our SS #! the card was mailed out on the 12th and we should get it either tomorrow or by Friday. So while we've got all our cards and #s, we still have to get the name situation sorted out (yup the SS folks screwed up on her name, ie lumped in her middle and last name both as her last name). that'll be another trip to the SS office, but its ok, since we've finally got our # and my wife can finally get paid!

My name wasn't matching to my SSN either (since I added my husband's last name and I already had a previous SSN on my maiden name) so when my company inputted my info on their system, of course it didn't match to the SSN info, so they gave me a I-verify paper that obligated me to go to the SSN office and have them fixing my info there. So I went to the SS office (they give you 8 federal days to go) and the lady did what she had to do to fix it and gave me a receipt, so I could bring it to the company to prove that I took care of it. If the company gives your wife the E-verify paper, she has got to go to the office otherwise they can terminate her employment if she doesn't take any action. My card was on the mail in 3 days after that.

I don't know if the same will happen to her if the system comes up with a different name, I just wanted to give you a heads up, so you know what to do if it does happen.

Let me know if you have any doubts and good luck! This process really sucks, it was a nightmare to me the whole GC and SSN issue, hope you have better luck than I did =)

  2. I just got my freaking SSN card!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally!!!

I actually spoke to an officer last monday and she said the address is correct on their system, it was just an a-hole that mistyped my address and screwed up big time.

I went to the neighbor's apt and it was the 3rd welcome letter... jezzz

So now it's only missing the green card.

  3. No GC yet!

I just checked my case status and it changed from "card production" to:

    Post Decision Activity

On July 28, 2010, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this OS155A IMMIGRANT VISA AND ALIEN REGISTRATION. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

    What does that mean?

  4. When is not tragic is comic! Stupid people!

Sachi I'm glad you are having such a blast on your road trip! Enjoy it dear!!!

I miss so much when I was in Brazil not working and not doing anything all day! (besides obsessing with USCIS/NVC).... good times!

I'll keep in touch! Hope I don't have any stupid things crossing my day today! It would be so nice to get home and have the stupid card on the mail......

    Have a good day y'all!

  5. So, I wake up in the morning and checked my FB page. A girl wrote me asking if I live on the address bla bla bla.

I think it's weird, but reply, yes I do. Why? Are we neighbors?

And she replies: I received a letter on your name 2 days ago from Homeland & Security. I live on the building bla bla bla and the letter came to my place (she is my neighbor but thought I used to live in her apt).

I immediately contact her and ask her to keep the mail so I could go there and pick it up after work. She tells me that she left to work but she put the letter back in her mail box to return to the post office!!!! :o

    I wanted to kill myself!

So she tells me that maybe her bf is there, so if I wanted to come over and tell him to open the mail box and give me my correspondence. I run home on my lunch break and he is not there. I write a note and stick it to her mail box asking USPS to get it and bring it to my mail box.

When I finish the my note the mail lady comes in. I couldn't believe I was going to rescue my GC from my neighbor's mail box.

She asks my ID and gives me the letter!!!!!!!!

So to my surprise it was ANOTHER welcome letter!!!!!!!!!! :bonk: :bonk:

Also, the awesome USCIS employees printed the label and instead of putting building 8955 they put 8935!!!!!!!!!! They mistyped my address!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Inside the letter was the correct number, but since the person had to make the label he mistyped my street number!!!!!!

How stupid are these people??????????????????????????? Mistyping such an important document??????

Anyway, I wanted to die!!! I came home on my lunch break hoping to get my GC and it was the 3rd welcome letter!

Ok, I already feel very welcome to the country, can we please deliver my freaking card now??????????

    :girlwerewolf2xn: :girlwerewolf2xn: :girlwerewolf2xn:

  6. Nat--That means your GC production has been ordered! Hopefully, you will get it in the mail in a day or two!

Good luck--I hope you can sort things out with HR with the 'welcome letter.'

I don't even understand why they're causing problems. Did you take the I-9 form and show them that it states that the I551 stamp is proof enough?

Yes I showed them everything, everything! Even the letter I got from the consulate with my visa that says upon entry I'm immediatly able to work, study and live like a permanent resident. They just don't get it!!! Argh!!! Hope to get the crazy card soon!!

How's your road trip dear? Having fun?

  7. Jezzzzz today was such an awful day!!!

I went to the SS office to get the I-verify BS figured out and when I came back my boss said that HR said if I don't bring my GC by Tuesday I couldn't be able to work there anymore! #######????????????????????

I was so mad you guys! This is not even legal!!! I AM elegible to work, arghhhhh

The HR lady messed up so bad that she confused SSN CARD with GC!!!! Then I talked to her, gave the receipt that SSA gave me proving I went there and she said that would be enough. That the only issue was the name not matching! Arghhhhhh, so why she tells my boss that they would terminate my employment if I didn't bring the GC next week??????? :bonk:

It's crazy!!!!! People really need to start getting things together before saying stuff. I almost cried, so worried!!!!

I was sooo going to sue them if they had fired me because of this. This is not even legal.

Anyway, she said that now everything is fine, but I'm still worried! We never know what to expect after this whole mess. I'm afraid she comes on Tuesday and say that they will fire me!!! I'm already being fired on my head!!!!

I got home and guess what was on the mail???????????? The freaking welcome letter!!!!!!!!!!!! Actually 2!!!

One is dated July 15 and the other July 20.

On the website it says: Document production or Oath Ceremony

On July 20, 2010 we mailed the document to the address we have on file. You should receive the new document within 30 days. If you do not, or if you move before you get it, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

So what does that mean? That my GC was mailed on the 20th or the Welcome letter? Maybe they mailed both on July 20th and I got my welcome letter and not my GC yet?

I called USCIS this morning again, and she said she made an inquiry on my behalf asking the service center to mail my GC again. I asked her if I could go and pick it up and she said no mam!

I guess there is nothing I can do anymore. This is so exhausting!!! It was hard already when I was just waiting, but now this is interfering on my job!

I'm so tireddddddddddddddddddd, I'm ready for some tequila's shots right now!

    BUUUUUUUUUULSHITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT :girlwerewolf2xn:

  8. sorry i'd been out a while, but you're not alone!!! me and my wife had been dealing with this sh*t too. i called up uscis last monday and my wife ws still not in the system. they admitted that there was a backlog and letters were being delayed. then i called friday and she was finally in the system (5 weeks post PoE). i verified that they had the right name (in the cr-1 visa, she is listed as first in the 1st name, but middle last in the last name space, as opposed to just the last (which is what is confusing the SS folks when we went in person and applied, as they felt that the last name didnt match what was in the visa), which the lady said they did (both agents were actually really nice). i asked about her SS# (now that she was in the system) and the agent said to call the SS assoc and inquire. the issue here is that my wife now has gotten a job and needs the SS# to fill in the w2 and other forms. she is supposed to start aug 2nd and the company told her to get the ss# prior to starting. so now we have to call the SS assoc (in hopes that she will now be in the system, since now she is in the USCIS system) and verify that she indeed has the ss#. the uscis agent said that in all likelihood, that she would actually recieve the ss card prior to receiving the green card.

i guess if not in the system on monday, then my wife'll have to go in person to the SS office and re-apply. if she applies the way her name is listed in the cr-1 visa, then obviously it would be wrong, but she would get the ss card in the mail. but if she applies the way it will show up in the green card, then she might be denied again...although the last time we went, she was not in the system and perhaps the only way the agent had to verify at that point was with what was listed in the passport and cri-1 visa. now that she might be in the system, if she applies the right way, perhaps she may get it (???)...anyway, i guess the 1st thing would be to call the ss assoc tomorrow and keep our fingers crossed that she is in. in either case, i dont think they will tell her the ss# on the phone anyway and she will have to wait till she gets the actual card in her hand to know what it is...or maybe a trip to the SS office needs to be done anyway...

i suppose she can delay her start date if necessary, but wondering by how much...

OMG! I'm so sorry you are going trough this.

I went to the SS office on June 11th and applied to my married name and asked them to take the restriction away. I haven't received my new card as of yet.

HR on my new job added me on the system as married name, so of course it didn't match. So they printed that stupid I-verify and told me to go to the office and get a letter explaining I already applied but they are waiting for USCIS's input.

It's such a mess. I have to give something back to HR till next Monday (August 2nd). I know it won't do any good if I go to the SS office but the company needs some sort of letter from them saying I'd already taken care of it.

I feel like screaming every time I think about this whole stupidity. I did everything right, what is the difficulty of printing my GC and sticking it on the mail? Why are they saying USPS returned my GC and welcome letter and at the same time USPS says they didn't????

I may call them again tomorrow and ask for the number of the mail (or smt like that). She said if I have the mail number she can track what happened. She blames that USCIS is lying saying they mailed but they didn't. Arghhhh I don't know what to believe. I doubt USCIS would say they mailed just to make me feel better. But I also doubt the mail lady would lie to me saying she didn't returned it.

  9. Stalk the mailman?

But for real, I'm so sorry you are having all these problems hun! (L)

Thank God I left the note on the mail box, so the USPS lady just knocked my door to understand what's going on.

We explained to her what USCIS people told us, and she said she didn't return anything. That she knows from the 1st day that we live here and if it was her substitute (on her day off) she would know if something was 'undeliverable'.

She asked me to leave the note up there because she is going on vacation till Thursday.

So we'll see.... I don't know who is saying the truth. I don't think USCIS would make a mistake and tell me same information 2 times. I called them twice yesterday and talked to 2 different people and they both said the same.

Oh Gosh! This is so annoying and messed up.

I don't know what else to do.

  10. I wish I could stalk them again! When I wasn't working was so much easier! haha

Tuesday was the last day I was at home all day, if I knew this I could have just asked her. Too bad.

Anyway, hope I get it tomorrow or Monday.

Also, I ran my credit report online and I only added my name as maiden since I didn't receive my SSN updated yet. Funny thing it showed up as Name: first, maiden - then AKA: first, maiden, last. So I suppose SS office already did their job! Hopefully I'll receive my new card this week so I can shove on the HR lady's face that it was not my fault! hahah

  11. Here is what happened... I called USCIS and the lady said they SENT my GC AND welcome letter already and it was returned as "undeliverable"!!!!! They sent it again last Tuesday and I should be receiving it anytime soon.

I went to the post office to find out why they didn't delivery it, and the lady said she cant do anything to help me (?????) so wrote a HUGE sign and stuck it in front of my mail box saying I live here! #######!!!! I already put both of our names on the mail box and even though the mail lady messes up!

I can't believe I could have received my GC already! Stupid USPS people! Undeliverable??? Really? Why they don't 'undeliver' my junk mail? It has to be my immigration papers????? KARMA!!!!!

Any other suggestions on what to do? I really don't wanna miss it for the second time!

  12. I don't think driving to Dulles airport and trying to talk to border patrol will help since afaik it's out of their hands at this point, but talking to USCIS during business hours and asking what's going on will be a good idea... you can do it on your lunch break so you won't have to take time off. Also, on the USCIS website they recommend calling them if it's been 30 days since you've been approved and you still haven't received anything. I would do that first and maybe the Infopass, unless you don't want to take time off of work?

I know, it's taking forever, and the stamp in the passport is not viewed as a "legitimate" green card by pretty much everybody, ugh. So annoying! I just want it to be over with already :(

I think it's the summer months so it's taking longer than normal, but based on other timelines in this thread we should be getting our things soon... will keep my fingers crossed! :)

I called them already and the lady said I should make a infopass. So I realized they say that to anybody if it's been more than 30 days since POE. She didn't help me at all. I'll try to call tomorrow again first thing in the morning, will try to be more persuasive and see if they can give me any real information.

The closest infopass office is 30 minutes away, so I don't think I can get it done on my lunch break.

    - I sat an appointment for next Monday at 9:15am when I didn't know I was already employed. I'll check with HR if they let me go. It was the closest date and they don't have any available date for this month.

My SSN is also messed up because it's still on my maiden name. So HR people put my name on the system as married and of course it didn't match

So now they gave me 8 federal days to go to the SS office and solve this. Oh yeah, as if it was up to me! I went there already too and she said she had updated it, but I suppose they have to wait for USCIS's input or something like that.

    Everything is sooo messed up!

  13. Hi guys,

My POE was 6/24 and I am still waiting to receive *anything*... don't even have a new SS card yet. I called USCIS on 6/20 and they said they will investigate what's going on, a lady gave me a case number and told me to wait 45 days to receive a Welcome letter and then call back if I don't get anything yet.

But, we want to travel, and everyone looks funny at the visa in my passport since it says it's valid until December, nobody wants to read the fine print (that it's valid for a year with a stamp) so I am having some issues with getting visas for Europe and work stuff... so I would like to expedite the process and receive my GC as soon as possible! I can do an Infopass appointment any time, it's near our house, should I do that? I am not worried about the SS card as much as I want to get the GC!

Any suggestions please? I was reading the earlier topic with regard to the NVC and it helped *immensely* to expedite the process and make it as painless as possible... so wanted to thank everyone who contributed to that as well :)

I just called USCIS but there are no operators right now. They close at 8pm.

My poe was June 2nd and still nothing, I mean JUUUUUNEEEE freaking 2nd!!!!!!!!!!!! Not even the welcome letter. I have a infopass appointment for next Monday but I just started my new job, so it sucks to ask for time off. At the same time I really need to get this fixed. What's going on with them?

Would it help to drive to Dulles airport and try to talk to a border patrol? At least I can go there on the weekends/anytime.

The same thing is happening to me, everyone seems to think that my visa will expire on November and nobody reads the printed area saying it's good for a year! Arghhhhhhhh

Son of b!tches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really need my papers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm soooo pissed you guys, I feel like screaming every time I think about it.

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh son of good lords!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. They x-ray the luggage again and the lady said she 'saw' something on it.

So she asked permission to look inside. She didn't make too much mess, but I think it was just because she was a little lazy as it was 6 in the morning. Then of course she couldn't find anything and let me go. But it took a while because there were a lot of people on that line and I was one of the lasts.

Apparently they check all new immigrants and people who got back from the forest, or farm, you know, this kind of places. For one couple they also sterilized their shoes because they used them somewhere in the country they were coming from... haha
