I had the same question on another thread. I had no plan of going with my husband but it's popped up in a few other places that if one is applying under the 3-year rule, it's kind of expected to go with the USC spouse. My interview is in December so I'll ask around from previous applicants in the same office as me and make a decision towards that time. left to me I don't think its necessary.
Are you from Los Angeles, Ca? When did you receive your interview letter?

I've filed my N400 application last July 10, 2014 and had my biometrics done last August 8, 2014. On August 12, 2014 my application was placed for interview scheduling. I've received the yellow form stating that I have to bring my travel documents and state id on the day of my interview. Since then I haven't receive any updates regarding my application and I am a bit worried since I'm traveling outside US on January 2015. Do you have any idea if they have delays on processing our application for N 400? By the way, I live in Los Angeles area.

I received the approval letter last 04/16, and I'm still waiting for my greencard. I checked online and it says "The USPS reported that they picked up mail from USCIS containing your new card on May 29, 2012. You should receive your new card within 7 days." YAY!

We got the approval notices for I-130 and I-485 on Monday, and I got my GC in the mail today
I can't believe I am done until Oct 22nd 2011!
Do I need to go to the SSA to get an unrestricted card or can I just keep using the restricted one?
I tried calling their 1-800 number, but after listening to the auto attendant read the same recording about Medicaid for the fifth time I gave up.
Congrats! =) You should go to the SSA and let them update your file.. and they will give you new SS card..

lol no I didn't add him but I saw that he was active the day after our interview so I was thinking, "Ummm why haven't you updated our online status yet buddy???" I feel like if I add him he will never approve us in the system cuz he'll think I'm crazy

Thanks for your help VJ users. I will go on without a lawyer. I think I'll buy my fiance a new laptop using my legal fee's budget I"m sure I have more questions when we start to fill out the OAS forms.
We also went to a lawyer and asked for his fee.. and guess how much he told us? $3,000.. Sounds crazy, huh?! VJ is really a big help to all of us here.. High five to all the VJ members! Evilmonkee, that's great news! Congratulations to you and your other half.
I received my green card in the mail yesterday! I never got any card production e-mails. I did get a notice this morning though, saying that my I-485 has been approved. Proof indeed that the online update system isn't too hot. But when it's all you have it's a great consolation.
I think it's time to put the tin foil hats away for a few years!

Hi all, I searched this forum but couldn't find the answer.
Basically, my fiance ( F1 Visa holder ) and I ( US Citizen) are getting married next week. We will also apply for her AOS once we get our marriage certificate. She will change her last name in the marriage certificate and in all submitted AOS forms.
My question is does she have to change her last name in her passport, F1 visa, driver license, and social security card while the AOS case is pending? We want to open various joint accounts but I'm afraid we'll run into conflicts. Should we wait until the AOS is approved before we open these accounts?
Also I was talking to an immigration lawyer and he's charging about $1200 to help me with the AOS process. Do you think I should hire a lawyer? It seems like you can find most of the AOS related answers in this forum.

Hey Vubaru! You don't need to hire a lawyer for that.. I am a F1 Visa holder and my husband is a US Citizen.. We tied a knot last August 2009 and we filed for I-130 and I-485 concurrently last October 2009.. and now we got approved.. I'm just waiting for my GC to arrive by mail..
Since she's planning to use your surname. She has to inform the DMV, SSA, and of course the school. Just bring your original and a copy of your marriage certificate. For the passport, I still haven't change my surname on it. But I'm planning to once I get my GC. For the Bank Accounts, just the same, you have to bring the marriage certificate for the proof that you guys are married and also ID's..

I still haven't receive my interview schedule letter. I've been checking online for updates. Anyone from Los Angeles, CA who already received their interview schedule letter?
On August 12, 2014, we started the interview scheduling process for your Form N-400, Application for Naturalization , Receipt Number NBC********. We will send you an interview notice. Please follow any instructions in the notice. If you do not receive your interview notice by November 10, 2014, please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request to request a copy of the notice. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.
