  1. Hey all-

We got notice that our I-129F was approved yesterday from CSC!! Great news.

We only waited 67 days, no RFEs! (I was getting jealous looking at how fast VSC had been pumping out approvals.)

I just wanted to say thanks for the support from the site. I basically followed the K1 guide to the letter for my petition. I also looked at the tips on the USCIS website about putting the package together. I put my photos in ziploc bags stapled to white pieces of paper. I put tabs at the bottom of the pages so the adjucator could quickly find what they were looking for. Etc... I included a lot of evidence- but not an insane amount. About 6 different pictures. We have met four times in the past year, so I had plenty of boarding passes, hotel receipts, rental car reciepts, etc... The one unorthodox I sent was pictures of us standing on the court of an NBA game, with photocopies of the ticket stubs and the receipt for purchase showing the exact date of the game... (I'm not saying that's what got us quick approval- just saying... ;)

I'm flying out again on Friday to Japan to visit for a week! It's going to be such a great trip knowing that we got approval for this first part! Now on to the consulate!

Thanks again- and good luck to those that are still waiting for their NOA2s!

  2. Hey all,

My fiance was issued a SS# when she was previously living in America as a student.

She has since been living back in Japan for many years.

On the K-1 application- we put "none" for her SS# on the documents. I guess she didn't realize that once you are isssued a SS#, it is for life, whether you leave the country and come back or not. (Correct?)

And honestly I just wasn't thinking about it when I prepared the forms. I didn't consider that she probably had a SS# issued to her when she was living here before. (which was before I knew her)

What do you think? Will this cause a problem with the application?

She doesn't remember what her number was either. Does anyone have any ideas on what the implications of this would be?

(I tried to find previous posts in the forums discussing this but was unable to.)

    Thanks!

  3. Thanks for the discussion everyone!

My fiance and I are both minimalists- we aren't planning anything big at all.

If we do get married in Hawaii, it will be essentially the two of us- and our parents.

The only wedding specific thing we will do is to set up a simple ceremony (on the beach?) with a justice of the peace.

After that the 6 of us will have a nice dinner somewhere or something to that tune. That would really be the extent of it Etc...

From there the three groups of two will split up and do whatever they want to do the rest of the time we are in Hawaii... our parents won't be able to communicate with each other without one of the two of us there translating- and we don't really want to spend our 'honeymoon' with our parents...

Eventually we will have a reception back on the mainland so that friends and family can attend.

I would never book anything before the NOA2- but I am thinking Japan's consulates being relatively friendly from what I've read it would be reasonably safe to start thinking about booking hotels/ flights once we have a final interview date in place...

But maybe we'll just have to go the Civil route first here and play it safe. I don't know!

  4. @Baron

I used to live in SF and trust me that sounds great! It's definitely beautiful up there...

But you know how there are those Americans whose idea of foreign travel is disembarking off a cruise ship to some roped off Caribeban resort area or going to Cancun? I think we're dealing with same kind of thing.

Her father is a stubborn middle aged man that speaks no English, has never left the country, doesn't like eating non-Japanese food... etc...

In that regard I don't think Sonoma would be any more inviting than Ohio where I live. Hawaii might as well be another Japanese island in the eyes of many Japanese tourists because so many people there can speak Japanese and everything is set up to accomodate Japanese tourists.

My fiancee and I originally were just treating it as a lost cause that he wouldn't come and were just planning on doing a simple thing here- with the possibility of her mom coming and a huge long-shot that her dad might have a last minute change of heart.

Somehow the subject of Hawaiian weddings came up in her family- and he said: "ハワイなら行けるかな。” (If you get married in Hawaii I could go.)

So it isn't that we wanted some fancy expensive destination wedding kind of thing- it just is the only way we can have both families together at the same time. (Not that I wouldn't enjoy the opportunity to go to Hawaii.)

  5. It's not so much that we are in a rush to have a 'lavish' wedding or anything.

It's more the idea that both our parents be there at the point that we are actually married.

With her dads unwillingness to come here- it makes it difficult.

I guess that the choice he is making is that he can either 1. See his daughter actually get married and come all the way here or 2. See a 'fake wedding' ceremony after we're already legally married but only have to go as far as Hawaii.

The other problem is that Hawaii get's super f'n expensive after a certain date. That's what complicates it. If we wait until we get the Visa in hand- plan maybe two or three months out the price of the whole thing will probably double.

Maybe I'm just being unrealistic about the highwire act that would be required to pull it off...

  6. Hey- I'm looking for some advice from anyone who's been through this.

I applied for the K1 in August. We are starting to make rough plans about how we are going to handle the marriage ceremony aspect.

We would like both our parents to be there at the ceremony- so we are planning on getting married in Hawaii. (Her dad wasn't too keen on the idea of coming to the Midwest all the way from Japan. )

My question is- do you feel there is a point in the process when it is somewhat safe to start setting dates? If we want to book flights and hotel rooms for everyone involved, when would be a (relatively) safe time to do it?

Would notification of the consulate interview date be a good time to go ahead and predict when we will get the Visa? I'm assuming once you get to that stage you should have a pretty good idea of when you will recieve the Visa, and the chances of it getting halted are slim (hope I'm not jinxing myself here!)

If something should happen even after we booked the trip-and we ended up not getting the Visa before the scheduled ceremony date- Could we just have a trip to Hawaii and hold a 'ceremony' anyways as long as my fiance could get into the country temporarily without threatening the pending Visa? Then when she actually got the Visa we would just do the civil thing here.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

  7. Everyone- thank you for your input.

I guess I will just wait and see if they request anything of me.

It's amazing how many times you can go over and over something and still make a mistake. I think my mistake was I had everything set- and then I made a copy of my complete packet. Somehow when I was shuffling papers to copy- I put the original in the copy stack. At least it was just this supporting page and not some required form.

Thanks for the info on the passport as well! If you read this forums too much- it's easy to get an idea in your head that you need to do something that might not pertain to your own situation. I just saw references to photocopying every page mentioned here and there.

  8. Hi-

Long time viewer first time poster.

I sent in my 1-129F packet in early August this year. I realized recently after going through the photocopies of the documents I sent that I forgot to include one page in my packet (even though I thought I checked about 20x! LOL).

It's not any of the official documents- but a summary page that I made explaining each piece of supplemental evidence that I included. (I-129F question 18 supplement.) I gave a brief description of the four times we met in the past two years. I had a variety of supporting evidence- hotel reciepts, itineraries, boarding passes, etc. I am worried that without the Summary page it will all seem jumbled up. I breifly answered the question on the form itself- but this page goes into much more detail.

Anyways- my question is it possible to send in additional info BEFORE the packet is analyzed/before receiving an RFE?

I would like to send in this summary page. I also found some additional hotel receipts and boarding passes that I did not send the first time. And we didn't include photocopies of every page of her passport- just the pages with entry stamps when she came to visit me in America.

Is it possible to add to your packet before being requested? And if so what is the best method?

    Thanks!

    -J
