  1. Today I received the wonderful news that my adjustment of status application has been approved and my green card has been ordered!

I cannot believe how fast this entire process was, and also how pleasant my marriage interview was.

I was very anxious about this entire process and expected it to take another 3 or 4 months.

The forums on this site were helpful to me during the process, so hopefully my story will help others going through something similar.

I am Canadian and my husband is a US Citizen. I came into the country as a visitor and then we decided to get married.

We got married in May, here in the US.

We filed all the paperwork for adjustment of status (485,130,864.131,765) mid-July.

My biometrics exam was 3 1/2 weeks later.

I received my advance parole 7 1/2 weeks after filing.

I received my authorization for employment card 8 weeks after filing.

My interview was 9 weeks after filing.

I really can't believe how quickly everything happened! It's amazing!

The only setback happened at the interview:

We arrived 40 min early and were not called until 20 min after our appointment time.

All of the immigration officers calling people in looked really friendly, not as intimidating as i had anticipated.

Our immigration officer introduced herself and told us she had bad news: our file had not arrived yet.

Thankfully being ever prepared for the worst, I had copies of everything.

Sidenote: MAKE SURE TO PHOTOCOPY EVERYTHING YOU SEND WITH YOUR APPLICATION.

My husband forgot and we got in a spat because I said we'd need copies of everything. He disagree and said there was no reason for us to bring a copy.

I filled out all the forms all over again and made copies of everything and thank goodness for that because otherwise we would have had to come back another day for our interview!

So...we were able to have the interview and it was actually a pleasant experience! Our officer was lovely, she asked us what the others' parents' first names were, what our birthdates were, our address, where we were born. She looked through our photo albums, asked who came to our wedding, asked who the people in our wedding photos were.

We told her our story, how we ended up together and she could see we were legit.

She said that she had to wait for our file to arrive to make sure everything was in order and if it was, she would approve us.

5 days later, today, she called with the fantastic news!

My green card should arrive in about a month.

Best of luck to all of you out there. If you are legit, you have nothing to worry about.

Wow..I hope that happens to us..

We are in the same situation. MY husband is Canadian; i am from the US. He got here in March...we married in May. Turned in paperwork in August, but CIS claims to never have received it, so I just shipped out a second package tonight...

Congrats. I'm happy to hear such a great ending. Everything I read seems as if we're going to go through hell.

  2. I met my now husband online. The first time he came, we were going to elope...but our families intervened and broke us up. After many tears and discussions, my parents agreed, ONLY if he came here and did it the 'proper way'...well, while he was here, we went ahead and got married.

I didn't know where to begin, so I called USCIS yesterday. I told the rep everything. The representative said for him to just put an I-130, I-485, I-765, I-864, and I-131 in one envelope, with $1465 in fees. But all the web research I did suggests that this may get me in trouble!

Has anyone ever done it this way? Any suggestions????
