A friend had a similar problem with the Bosnian passport - expiration date in less than 6 months but US consulate said they'll give him the visa and then when he gets the new passport he just needs to carry both - visa is still valid.

You should also contact the US consulate/embassy in your home country to double check.

I live and work in the USA, California

I just received approval for a H-1B visa, and then realized my passport expires at the end of November.

Now I have to go home in September to get my H-1B visa approval stamp, but I also need to renew my passport at the same time.

I am wondering if anybody knows anything about this process, I have already been in touch with the consulate in LA.

My question being can I obtain my visa stamp without 6 month valid passport in hand, while its in process for renewing, thus I will have a temporary passport, will this then work to travel back to the USA
