  1. To All:

Thanks for all of the information and encouragement. As long as Ying doesn't get to nervous it sounds like she'll do fine. She'll have to study some more and read through all of the documentation we submitted so that she in at least familiar with it. Once in a while her english skills go down hill when she gets nervous. I plan on going with her even though I can't be with her during the interview. This should help her.

    NickD,

Where in Central Wisconsin are you? We are in Racine and we spend a lot of time in the Milwaukee area.

Near Wausau, Wausau has a river running through it, but so does Racine, not only that, but a lake. Miss that lake, from that area, and have a ton of relatives in Milwaukee dating back 150 years. So why did they send us to St. Paul?

Wausau is a nice area. I was born and raised in Milwaukee so my family is there. I went to school there too and haven't strayed too far afer college. I did live in Ripon for awhile before moving to Racine. Either way, Milwaukee or St.Paul, you had a way to travel.

  2. Hi everyone-

We just came back from Marina's citizenship interview downtown Chicago; the interview itself lasted 12 minutes however we did have to wait over 2 hours to be called.

Questions were easy and the officer was pretty brief...he kept the disposition papers for Marina's 2 traffic violations and said she would be getting the oath letter in a month or so. Many people were receiving oath ceremony letters on the spot but I think hers could not be given since she is still 5 days short of her 3 year PR anniversary.

Either way we have a paper showing she was approved so now it's just a matter of watching the mail...again!!

Good luck and speedy processing to all!

    Dave

    Congratulations!!!!

Ying's interview is Nov 19 and I hope it goes as smooth.

    NickD,

  4. Hi fellow Wisconsinite, we are from North Central WI, been down to Milwaukee twice on Knapp St, but only for biometrics, is that where your interview will be? We have been assigned to the St. Paul office for interviews. Kind of on the border line. Never saw an area in Milwaukee for interviews, was curious about that.

raymaga answered most of your questions, believe only one person since I have been on this board stated the interviewing officer wanted to meet the spouse. I have always taken my wife, long drive, but for the N-400, only the applicant is allowed to go in. We did take that opportunity to go over the 96 Civic questions on our drive over there.

Regarding notification of the oath ceremony apparently that varies with each of 81 different field offices and also within a field office depending on which IO you get. But suggest you ask your interviewer that procedure after you pass.

I've been to Knapp Street several times with my wife. The first was for the conditional greencard. We live just south of Milwaukee so her interview will be in Milwaukee. Several weeks ago my wife went to Knapp Street by herself for the biometrics. I'll probably go with her that day but like you said she'll have to go in alone. I'm sure she can get 6 out of 10 questions correct and her English is good.

  5. Your wife will get her naturalization interview letter in the mail, and it gives you a list of everything she will need to take. She will need to take the letter, Green Card, passport, marriage certificate, proof of death or divorce for each prior marriage of both of you, and U.S. citizens birth certificate or naturalization certificate.

My husband did not attend the interview with me, so I'm not sure whether spouses are allowed in the interview. I would have been way more nervous had my husband come in with me, so I'm glad I went alone.

The test consists of both a written and oral section. The sentences you have to read and write are VERY simple, such as "The dog ran down the street". The civics test consists of 10 questions, and you need to get 6 right in order to pass. They will only keep asking questions until 6 right answers are given, up to a maximum of 10 questions. They are selected randomly.

Your wife will be told whether she is "recommended for approval" at her interview. I was given my oath ceremony date after the interview was completed. I was given a choice of several dates and was allowed to pick one that worked for me. My oath ceremony was 2 weeks after my interview.

The oath ceremony was nice and to the point, and only took about one hour. My husband accompanied me to the oath ceremony.

After the oath ceremony, your wife should visit the local SSA office with her naturalization certificate to update her "status", register to vote, and apply for a U.S. passport.

Thanks for the info. It sounds like the interview part is not that hard. My wife started studying months ago but has not done anything recently so she must start again.

  6. I'm sure I'll find a lot of the answers as I search through everything but can anyone give my wife some advice for the interview. Her interview is scheduled for November 19. She has questions like....

What should she bring? (Everything we sent in?)

Can I (her USC husband) come in during the interview?

    What is the test like?

Will she get approval at the interview?

How long before she can take her oath?

Plus feel free to add any other commenrts that can help her.

The journey is almost over!

Just updated our info. Our local USCIS office is in Milwaukee. From the information I've seen here it looks like it is about 3 months from application to interview.

    Good luck to everyone!

  9. Hi...

    To All Thai Immigrants...

I'm really starting to freak out a bit. I'm so worried that my Thai fiancee will have a very hard time when she moves here. I live in Kansas City, MO and it's NOTHING LIKE Thailand and about 50 times smaller than Bangkok. There's not really any sort of Thai-town here and I know very few people (2) from anywhere near Thailand.

Short of talking to the owners of Thai restaurants... how would you suggest that I find places for her to be comfortable. "Community" is a big part of life in Thailand and maybe if I can meet some folks here I could even find her some work?

Talking to the owers and workers at Thai restaurants is a good idea. Ying and I did that and she found the Thai community in Southeastern WI. She also speeds time at some internet sites that are for Thai women living in the US. Through those sites she has been in contact with other Thais in the area. We are also lucky because there is a Thai lady that I knew from my company's Thai office that moved into our area and now works at the same facility as me.

    Good Luck!

  10. Hello Everyone!

Thanks for the great info. We are just sitting back reading and waiting...checking this forum and the USCIS site for any news. Our NOA1 is March 31 nad touched April 23. We hope to hear something in June.

But I have a little question...Does anyone know of a web site that I can purchase western movies with Thai sub titles?

I saw one once but didn't book mark it and now I can't find it and I don't remember how I stumbled upon it in the first place.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. :)

    Thanks again

I usually buy my movies in thailand when I am there. The western movie is in English and has the option for Thai subtitles.

  11. I Know...

Has anyone who has gone through the interview EVER had an officer tell them that a document in Thai needed to be translated into English? This is Thailand we're talking about after all... they are not exactly known for consistant application of law/rule/policy etc. I realize (and have all along) that the Packet 3 stuff says that English & Thai are fine anything else needs to be translated.

    Hey Thee_Rak,

Also, the Packet 3 sheet explicitly says the only documents that need to be translated are those that are not in either English or Thai.

Get them translated, you will need the translated documents when you file AOS.

Any document you have in Thai, birth cert, education records, etc.....get them done while your there.

Although it's been 3 years since we went through this, I recommend that you get all of the Thai documents translated into English. Make sure you get multiple, certified copies of the translations. You may need them later on when you get back to the US. As recommended, get the translations done in Thailand. It is much cheaper.

  12. I know that I am married to a Cambodian and this is the Thai thread, but we were grandfathered in when we had our interview in BKK and have made many friends here.

Anyway just wanted to let some of the old guard that Mariya received her 10 year green card today. I know there are quite a group of us going through the I-751 process. We would like to hear how some of you are doing.

We will be filing for naturalization in November.

    Good Luck to all

    Sam and Mariya

    Sam,

Great news! Ying received her 10 yr green card in the mail on New Year's Eve 2007. We will be going through the naturaliztion process later this year. They are in the process of changing the exam. If Ying files before the end of October (I think) she will have the option of which exam to take. She can file sometime in late August which is 90 days before her 3 year anniversary.

  13. This might be a stupid question and there doesn't seem to be much ambiguity in this email, but....

On February 24, 2008, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E). Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service.

...is this NOA2??? If so it came only 60 days from the NOA1, and seems 40 days faster than the average. Honestly I wasn't looking for this until April at the earliest.

    Cheers,

    Al

    Congratulations!

Your petition is on its way to the next step.

  14. congratulations afterforever! hope you feel better...did you ever figure out what you had?

Thanks Kang Lang. I was told by the doctor here that a strain of flu virus on steriods was going around. He said it is taking people about 6-8 weeks to completely recover. I took a flu shot in September but the doctor said it did not work against this super flu. Hope no one here gets it. It kicked my........

Have you started your AOS yet?

wow 6-8 weeks that's a long time to be laid low but i bet it doesn't matter now that you have your visa sorted! no we had to wait a bit, some unforseen expense but we are gathering our docs and are filing this month :D. i plan to sack our attorney this week but am nervous about it. either way we will just follow the guides here and file aos on our on. can't wait to update our timeline with the next process. at least we are together for this part.

are you planning your wedding yet?

The AOS process is relatively simple if you follow the guides here. As long as you have evidence that you are married it should be easy. The hardest part is the waiting for everything.

    Good luck!

  15. Congrats ThaiStyleUSA!

Your interview will be here very soon!

I agree with your statement, once you and her are together, the rest of the journey becomes much more bearable. Our AOS journey was no sweat at all compared to the K1 journey...simply because we were able to be together during that process :)

Peace and good luck on the upcoming interview!

    Mark-N-AAm

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Best of luck to all of those who are waiting

  16. Hi all,

I have been lurking around this forum for a time and decided to post my particulars with the fiancée visa process.

I have known my fiancée, Suchada for over two years now and we had our first meeting just a few months ago in November. As soon as I returned from Thailand we started to work on the I-129F and I mailed it the day after Christmas. So far I received the NOA1 on January 2nd, now from our readings it looks like months of waiting ahead of us.

I am very excited and happy that the application is in the system now.

This is a wonderful site, and the I-129F guide was such a great help in my preparations.

    Cheers,

    Alvin

    WELCOME!

Good luck and hopefully your journey is quick!

  17. Hello everyone,

Just an update here and perhaps some feedback from anyone who has received a approved expedite request would be helpful.

The USCIS is reviewing my expedite request. They touched it again today. It has taken them a little over month to get the details. Normally I would of not requested it, but my mother is dying from cancer and wants to see my fiancee and I married before she dies. Hope that happens, however, I am assuming we are minimal 2 months to 3 months out even if it goes quickly and mom is starting to show signs that things are rgetting worse. She was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, unable to opperate and it now has speard to her spine, brain, lung, liver and who knows where else. Looks like it is moving rapidly. Unfortunately she is also the caretaker for my 76 year old father and my 91 year old aunt and without her there, I will have to take care of them to keep them in their home they worked for their whole life for. I am making plans to temporalily reside there, not change address as I have a job where I can work form different places in the US, but to provide them security in their home. Anyway the USCIS requested additional information back on December 20th, which I provided a two page letter from me and the Doctors diagnosis, limited in detail because of Hippa laws.

Anyway, if we are lucky enough to get approved, I am seeking information from anyone who has gone through this process and has received an expedite approval to learn how I might get the rest of the process expeditied, not to cause problems. My hopes are that the expedite approval, if granted, will follow the the papers to the NVC and then to Bangkok Embassy. I have thought about contacting my Congressman and my mothers asking for them to look into this and see if they can help but have not done so as I am afraid my case will all of a sudden get delayed longer. Anyone with experience here please fill me in. I may call my congressman to get advice.

We did have a Budhist ceremony, not an official marriage in the sense of Thiialand or the US unless you file marriage papers in Thailand at the local Government office, which we did not. We did this for her family and it was wonderful. I talk to her twice to her a day in the morning and at night as she is waking up when I am about to go to bed. I have been learning Thai daily and she has been studying English.

    Sawadee, waiting and hoping

We hope and pray that things more quickly for you and your fiancee. If you have done so yet, contact your senators and representatives as soon as possible. Thay may be able to help. With our case I contacted my 2 senators and represetative and the responded quickly.

  18. thanks statman,

that was what I was leaning towards as well, thanks for the confirmation.

We have applied for the removing condition now, let's say for some reason I didn't receive the 10 year GC until the time frame of 90 days before 2/15/09 (the 3rd anniversary of my wife's 1st GC), can we still apply for the citizenship, or do we need to wait until we have the new GC in hand before we apply????

    thanks for you help again.....

    -Amar

    Amar,

Even if you don't receive the 10 year Green Card you can still apply for citizenship.

  19. Finally, the day is near. I will be leaving for Thailand on Sunday night (1/6). Our interview is on the 14th. We will be returning to the USA on the 23rd. I cannot believe this part of the nightmare is almost over with.

I am more than confident that the interview will be no problem. I have everything the embassy needs and then some. Better to have to much than to little.

    Good luck to everybody.

    Good Luck!

After all of the paperwork and waiting the interview should be the easiest part. It was for us. Only a couple of quick questions (mostly for me) then back the next day to pick up Ying's passport with her visa.

On the evening of the 14th if you are in the area of Sukhumvit Soi 2 stop in Bully's Pub for a celebration drink on me. I'll be there. I have to head to Bangkok for work. I'll be there 14-16 and again Jan 19-22. Unfortunately Ying has to stay home in the cold Wisconsin weather.

  20. hello statman,

I have a question from you or other folks,

we filed for Removing conditions at NSC and were transferred to CSC as well. So very similar to yours..

Our original date of 1st (conditional GC) is 2/15/06. Kinldy let me know how to calculate when we would be eligible for filing the Naturalization letter.

    thanks

Based on what I've read, you can apply anytime within the 90 days prior to the 3rd anniversary of receiving the first green card if the application is based on being married to a US citizen. Since your original date is 2/15/06 you should be able to apply any time within the 90 days before 2/15/09.

    Good luck!
