1. Hello everyone!

I am writing from Ukraine as I am visiting here with my family.

Congratulations to everyone getting their GCs, that's awesome news! And thanks for sharing your stories with us!

As to me, nothing new here, still no interview letter (I have people check our mail in the U.S.) Have NO idea what's going on and am tired of stressing out about it... Not I am the "Forgotten One" :)

Just try and enjoy your time at home and don't stress about it.You'll have time to deal with this once you come back.Hopefully you'll get the interview letter while having a good time at home with your family!Have fun at home!!

  2. Congratulations to everyone on their GC approval!! And thank you for posting your interview experience, it is very helpful for the rest of us!

As to me, I STILL DID NOT get my interview date. I am really worried and don't know what to do. I just hope that it wasn't lost in the mail and I am going to miss it because of that :crying::crying::crying: Or that there are some problems with my case..

It could be that your local office is overloaded and taking a long time to schedule appointments. On the other hand, if you do have an interview scheduled and the letter was lost, I think the only way to know is to make an infopass appointment and ask them. Apparently the local offices make the appointments but do not share the information with anyone else in USCIS. After trying for days to get someone at USCIS to correct their scheduling mistake (Bella and the kids scheduled for different days) we finally made an info pass appointment, made the long drive and got things straightened out quickly.

Thank you for your advice! I also thought that the local office should know something, but I was wrong. I made an infopass appointment, and the lady said that she cannot get any information on the interview schedule. So she said I should just wait some time (and it took me 2.5 hours one way to get to my office) I don't know what I should be doing, I am obviously behind everyone else's timelines by probably a couple of weeks at least. :(

    Troy/Anita, congratulations!

marry, I would still take both EAD and AP with you, and then insist on getting your passport stamped. As far as I know, as soon as you are done with the interview and get your green card approved, your AP is not valid any more. Because when you enter POE, they check the status on your case. Good luck with your travel, me and my husband are going to travel to Ukraine in less than a week ourselves and are going to use my AP.

Thanks for your advice! Have a nice trip back home!! Hopefully you'll get some good news soon.

I just double checked your timeline and is almost the same as mine.I just got my interview letter on saturday so my guess is that you'll receive yours this week too.I was feeling left behind too but o saturday the big letter was in the mail.Good luck.

  4. I have some questions:I know they are saying to bring EAD and AP documents at the interview.Do they take those documents? And did it happen to any of you not to have the passport stamped at the interview?

The thing is I have my interview scheduled on September 17 and we plan to go to Romania on September 20-21 (that means we should get the tickets soon and I don't know what to do)to attend my husband's cousin wedding but since I will not get the GC by that time I will probably need the AP(if they don't stamp my passport /if they will schedule me for a second interview-hopefully not).I plan to ask them at the interview but I am trying to get more info because I have to decide what to do about the plane tickets since most of them are non refundable.

    Any experieces or ideas? Thanks.

  5. Thank you for your support.

I think that it was an impartial and nice message and I think you are right about what you said.

I already sent them a new I 765, a copy the NOA from the I-485 and copies of my passport and birth certificate and the EAD with a letter explaining the error.Hopefully they will send me a new one soon since it was their error.

I just wanted to say what I did if someone else has the same problem (hopefully nobody will have it).I don't know if it's the right thing to do but that's what I understood from that lady on the phone. If I will not hear from them soon probably I'll do the info pass as suggested.

  6. Marry I do think that you are putting more meaning into DavChels response than needed. I think what she meant was that by the time you fix the problem with your EAD you will most likely have your GC. Writing messages here can easily be taken the wrong way because of the stress involved in the process.

Your Date of Birth is on our Social Security Card?

Imagine how you would feel if an employer would tell you that the informations on your social security card and EAD don't match. Did this happen to you?

So don't tell me it's not a big deal if you haven't been in that situation!!! DavChels never stated it wasn't a 'big deal'.

Regardless I hope everything works out. I think that is what we all want.

    Congrats Ladyb!! :thumbs::thumbs:

AS I said before I've been through a similar (not the same )problem at the DMV when the papers I presented had my DOB and my SS card had a different one and it was a lot of trouble for me .Even though the DOB is not on the SS cared the DMV hence the employer has access to the informations behind it.

And another thing is that when you present your documents for employement you give them the EAD and the ID ( lisence/state ID) which in my case have diffrent informations.

And again try to think about this looking at things as if you were in that situation. It's called empathy and I think that person needs a little more of that and if she has it I defenetely didn't feel it(it's a subjective thing anyway)

  7. To be honest I didn't feel any support from her post is was more like who cares if youl'll get the GC in a month or two...But it mights take longer and again when it's not your problem it seems like it's no big deal.

Personally I don't like to write or give advice to people if I don't have knowledge regarding that issue, I like to be as informed as possible before writing and speaking about something ( in my field there is not to much error allowed and probably is a professional defect)

  8.
I got my EAD in the mail but for some reason they put the WRONG date of birth on the card.I called their costumer service and they managed to make me more confuse than I wasbefore calling. She told me to send another I 765 application with the original card and some evidence that my DOB is the actual one and that I am eligible for EAD.They also have to determine if it's my error or theirs and depending on that I might have to pay again for I-765.
I got sooo mad and told her how come yesterday I was eligible and today I'm not and asked her if she expects me to send the whole application again and what will happen if they lose my EAD somehow. After a few minutes she changed the story and said I could just send one copy of EAD ,a new application for EAD and some evidence of my DOB.
Just wanted to share my experience with you.Hopefully nobody will have to deal with this.

Do you really have to worry about that knowing that most likely the GC will come in a month or two, depending on your interview date?

Yes I do because I would like to find a job now and not in 2 months or when I'll have my GC.Imagine how you would feel if an employer would tell you that the informations on your social security card and EAD don't match. So don't tell me it's not a big deal if you haven't been in that situation!!!

Wow, no need to get smart. Your SS card doesn't have your DOB on it, so you might be able to explain the wrong DOB on the EAD to your employer OR they may not even notice it. Also, if you kept copies of all the paperwork you sent in, you'll be able to see if it was your mistake or theirs. I was just trying to give another perspective to try to be a little more positive...

You are trying to get smart and actually FYI your SS card HAS the DOB since I had the wrong DOB on that too and I had to go there to change it when I applied for the driver lisence because of a mismatch. So please try no to write about something that you really have no idea about. Since I have already been through that once I'm trying to do whatever it takes to get it right.

You might think you know a lot but you actually don't.

Whoa, you are being really rude for no reason. People are just offering advice. We understand you are stressed and annoyed with USCIS but there is

ZERO reason to take it out on people who have provided nothing but help and good advice in the past. EVERYONE is stressed/annoyed with USCIS and wants things to go perfectly but reality is, life isn't like that. You just have to take each bump as it comes and deal with it.

They made a mistake. First thing I would do is check the paperwork. Then, contact them. Get the stuff changed. And your done.

I also HIGHLY doubt an employer is going to turn you down for a job if you explain the situation & provide other paperwork showing the real date.

Go take a deep breath, understand that things happen and it's part of the process AND that things will work out.

And also remember, it's not any of our fault that it's not correct so don't take it out on us :D

She was talking about something not knowing anything about that thing. That's all and I wasn't asking for any advice I already did what I had to do.I just shared my bad experience and she made it look like it's no big deal...but it does when it involves you and not someone else. So I was just responding to her mean post( that's what I felt that she was implying that I am overreacting for no reason).I think you should read her posts twice, unless you are taking sides in this...and I'm sure you are.

And I guess I have the right to say when someone posts wrong informations here that's not being rude that is correcting faulty informations.

  12. There is no way they will be able to provide you with a new passport, in your new name, while you are here in US, on short notice, even if you would have the marriage certificate with the apostile. It usually takes 2-6 months for the passport only. I read plenty of others' experiences, where one of them changed their name after marriage, traveled to different parts of the world, and were able to return to US with the passport, the marriage certificate and the GC. No need to worry.

It seems crazy what you are saying that they take so long...Let's say you want to travel to Romania within the next month and you passport will expire within 2 days...don't tell me you can't go...it's absurd and ridiculous...are you talking from your personal experience or you are just assuming that?

  13. Yes you still need to go there. But my advice is if you want to go ahead with that call them a million times and ask them what they need from you and if they can do it because you might end up traveling there for nothing.Trust me they are really nasty people over there.

I have an idea : order a marriage certificate from the City Hall where you got married ( they will give you one/or more copies for a fee). That way you can send your mom an original without having to worry about being lost. Then go to a lawyer and make a Power of Attorney for your mom to be able to represent you and your husband and to be able to register your marriage in Romanian records( she has to translate and notarize that I think). After that I think you have to options to go here to the embassy to do the passport or to make another Powe of Attorney for her to be able to apply for your passport(the problem is that you have to send the passports and photos and they are doing regular passports until this fall and then they are changing to biometric ones which I guess are harder to make without the person being present)

The info that I gave you I heard from one friend who did the same with the passport because they refused at the embassy to make her a power of attorney for her mom so she went to a lawyer and did this and now she has the passport.

Your situation is more complicated because you don't have any romanian document with your new name and that is the reason for the transcription of marriage.

    Hope this isfo is helpful.

    Ok!

This is what I am going to do actually.I am going to send the original to my mother.I have to other certified copies from the Court House(where we got married) from here.I am going to make a Power of Attorney to my mother.

After she obtains the new romanian certificate(is she going to sign for us on the certificate) I am going to mail everything to the embassy.for the passport.(it says on the web site that I can mail the request for passport).(Hopefully it doesn't take so long in romania.I am not going to mail my passport in Romania....it sound too crazy.

Does anybody know what are the exact papers that I need to submit to my mother?Who does the request?Me or my mother?I mean the transcription request? From where we get that?

    Thanks!

And after I have the transcription, how long does it take to get the new passport?

I know that in Romania they have an emergency fee that you can pay in order to get your passport really fast ( the same day ).I don't know if they offer you here the same option ,but considering that they are doing everything they can to get your money my guess is that they do offer that.

  15. I still haven't received my EAD. I got two card production emails, one on July 28th and the other on July 31st. It is now August 12th and nothing in the mail yet. Not even my appointment date for my interview. I am getting a tad bit frustrated.

I am in the same situation. They sent me 3 e-mails about the EAD but nothing in the mail yet.I didn't get an interview letter either and I see a lot of people with similar timelines gat either the GC or the interview letter already.I know how you feel but try to stay positive and hope for good news soon.Good Luck to all of us who are still waiting!

  17. Hello everyone!

I just got my green card like 2 weeks ago..which is on my married name.

My romanian passport is still in my maiden name.I would like to change my name and I called the Ro Embasy in Washington several times...No answer..the same voice mail over and over...

Does anybody know what are the required papers?I also couldn't find the right information on their website.

I only could find smth about changing the address or the name(only for name cases when you change your name through other ways...not marriage).

It sais at some point that if my marriage certificate is in English,...I have to translate it in Romanian,,,somewhere at my local city administration in Romania..where it was my previous address...That's crazy!

Does anybody know anything about that?

I heard..that I can travel with my green card/passport in different names///but I really wanna change my name..

    Thanks a lot!

    Anybody from Romania?

    Hi,

Me and my husband we both changed our passports but we didn't have to deal with the name change. We had to go to the Consular office in New York in order to do that. I didn't change my name because I was trying to avoid what you are dealing with right now(especially since consular employees are not very nice or helpful)

Now the only problem is that from what I know they want you to trascribe your marriage in Romanian records (you need an Haga appostile-some type of seal on your marriage certificate) and you can do that only within the first 6 months after the marriage.I am pretty sure they need that in order to recognize your marriage as valid in Romania and to process your request.

Speaking for myself I decided not to change my name to avoid all these problems and honestly to avoid the romanian consulate which disgusts me ( it reminds me where we all came from).I was thinking before what is best to do to recognize our marriage and we decided not to go through with this.I would rather go to Romania and have another Civil Ceremony and everything will be fine.

Maybe it it's been more than 6 months since you married and you plan a trip to Romania you can do that and take care of the passport over there.

    Good luck

I forgot to say you have to go to the nearest Consulate you don't have to go to Washington.

    Hi!

    It sounds really complicated!

Anyway,do you know how can I get that Haga appostile? It's been indeed more than 6 months since we are married..does that mean that we can't require it?

You and your husband are both romanian? My husband is American.Does it make any difference for the embasy?

And if we get married legally in Romania next year..I will still have my maiden name in my passport. My concern is that I have my married name in the green card and maiden name in passport.Having a Romanian marriage certificate doesn't help me,unless I change my name in my passport in Romania,,,,if that's possible and I really want to enjoy my trip there...it's going to be only for 2 weeks anyway.I don't know if I have time for all these...

    :( (

This is a website that I found on the internet.

    http://www.apostille.us/Documents/apostille.shtml

You can apply for a passport at the romanian consulate but my point is that they might not want to recognize your marriage certificate from here and in order to change your name in the romanian passport they will want you to transcribe your marriage( in romanian records you are not married).

I don't know what happens if you want to transcribe it and it's past the 6 months period.I think you should call them and ask if you can do that or what other options you have.

You can find more informations about this on the Embassy website www.roembus.org go to consular section and than to either romanian/english versions and you can find out about the appostill as well.

    Good luck.

  18. I received our approval notice for the I-485/GC at @ 2:31 this afternoon.:dance::dance:

One more case out of the way for those of you still waiting.

Thank you for all the support! I can't wait to see more good news.

Congrats!!!! Nothing for me in the mail!!Still waiting for AP and EAD.Maybe tomorrow I'll get something! Good luck everyone who is still waiting!
