  1. Yes, My wife called and waited for over 30 minutes and she was just laughing. "I could not believe it! someone actually does answer!"

in short we are getting the DS 230 it to the ma in law and she will enclose, sign, etc., and ship quick back to the NVC. I will include a personal cover letter, last receipt & last cover from the NVC. If you hear the "Fililipino American Association of the Inland Empire" is there (maybe next year) then say hi!

  2. Yes, you will be required to submit an accomplished DS-230 application for a parent. A parent of a USC is considered their immediate relative.

I submitted a DS-230 during my stepdaughter's visa process. The DS-230 was submitted in the IV Packet during the NVC stage.

I highly recommend you reading this guide, if you haven't already. Most of the information deals with spouses of USCs. But the overall flow is the same for immediate relatives of USCs.

I hope this helps you some! Good luck with your journey! good.gif

    Thanks Markie,

I figured it was going to be next but I could have done it sooner too. We will get started on it now.

I hear the Pista Sa Nayon in Seattle is huge. I hope to be there next year.

  3. I have filed for my mothers 1-130, still waiting for the approval .. Meanwhile I would like to find out whats the process of getting the police verification. My mom is 70 years old . She is in Pune and would be going to Mumbai consulate for her interview once the approval comes thru.

What are the other documents required. Can the forum help me.

    Thanks a lot......in advance

My wife (USC) filed an I-130 for her mother to come over and they accepted it 10/22/12 and still waiting to hear.

Police Verification: I had my wife go to her local police station, tell them what she is doing, need a record.

  4. My wife is taking her test and will pass on 10/2 (she knows all 100 questions). The last day for her to register to vote is 10/29. The planned oath ceremony is like 11/13 because I checked and the 2 in October are full.

My question is what is the EXACT law for taking the oath and Citizenship. I want to read it. Does it say that is has to be at some ceremony? If all she has to do is take the oath she can do that with me (well, kidding) but why not a government official like a US Representative or Senator? A Judge? I am thinking that after the test and taking the oath she should be able to register to vote!

    Thank you all in advance!

  5. My wife will have her interview on 10/2/12. The last day to register to vote for the general election is 10/29.

I do not think she can register to vote before she takes her oath. We are here in Spokane WA so from reading the forum it seems that it does matter where you live as when you can take your oath. So here are my questions and I think I will also go to the office and ask too.

    1. Has anyone heard of taking the oath personally, one-on-one, like privately, or does it have to be part of some ceremony? It would be great if you can do it after you pass the interview.

    2. Do you have to take the oath before you register to vote? I think I will have to check with the laws. I think you are not a US Citizen until you take your oath.

  6. Thank you all for your posts! I will give more details. This is in Pampanga. We are buying a vacant lot now but will build on it after the next rainy season. The tax question came up by my financial planner since americans can "gift" only $13,000 a year tax free. That is why my wife needs to be on the paperwork so it is NOT a gift to her parents. Now that is for the US taxes. Thanks for the post on Property tax. My wife just called the PHP and they are totally on top of that! They have a cousin that works at the city hall that they pay some greese money to and she told them about that. Good info! Also they said I will not be on the title (which is what I wanted anyway) so good info there also by that post. I am glad to say after 3 years we are hapily married, and blessed by the Catholic faith so there will be no divorce :)Tim/mav are correct. Marital community property here, definately not there!

All great info friends. Thank you again.

  7. Greetings all,

My wife is from the Philippines and we want to buy an investment property for us to retire to in 20-25 years. Also her parents will live there now. Has anyone done this already and would be willing to help us avoid any potential problems? I know that a PHP national has to be a part buyer/owner (land can't be 100% owned by American)so her parents and my wife will be the signer. We hope that they cans send up papers for her to sign and send back. Other questions would be:

Taxes? for US Taxpayers on the 1040? and PHP taxes (I do not think they have any if not in a gaited community. I told my financial adviser that this was an investment property and not a "gift".

Liability? I know Filipinos are not sue happy like Americans but what if someone gets hurt, can they come after me and my wife?

Any good/bad stories about buying land? I am glad we are not doing this from here and the parents will see the property personally.

    Thanks in advance,

  8. I just asked my Asawa and she said get there in the morning, the earlier the better. Do not go there when you have your mens (like she did as it started that day). So she was able to get her urine, blood, and eye tests and then she came back a week later when she got her shots, x-ray and physical exam. OHhhhhh and being my loving wife she reminded me "no sex for 4 weeks after the exam" to avoid possible pregnancy complications  I think she got here on the 30th day  One last thing she just told me. Do not forget your approval letter and money

Relax, it all will be good! Best of luck. God Bless

  9. Speaking only for myself I would say to take 750 PHP and enough to get a bottle of water once in the terminal at the airport. You can bring snacks with you, but many may have to throw some out once you get to the US. Bring US Dollars which will be good at any layover airport and great once you get in the USA. Maybe $20-$30. When I got here with a 100 PHP bill I sent it back to my Asawa and they took it out of the letter???!!!!

    Happy travels

  10. My Asawa and I were married in a civil ceremony in the Philippines. We now would like to "renew our vows" or also called "marriage blessed in the Church" here in the US Catholic Church. We just met with the Priest and he asked if we were "Confirmed". I was confirmed when I was in High School here in America but my wife does not recognize or remember being confirmed or any ceremony of the kind. Does anyone know about being confirmed in the Catholic Church in the Philippines? Could it be just part of the basic education system in the public schools there?

That's interesting. In my wife's case, all the parish wanted was hwr baptismal certificate.

Perhaps your wife was confirmed the same day she was baptized as an infant? If your wife's parents are still alive, have your wife ask them about it.

Thanks! I have been doing some research and that is what I found out! It usually happens in the far east that confirmation & baptism happen the same time. We have her baptism cert. so all should be good

  12. I tracked the price on a plane fare website that gave me weekly updates and I could follow it like the stock market. I found out it was better to purchase it on a Monday (weekends when most book their flight they raise the price). I wanted a non-stop flight since it was my wife's 1st time flying so the only airlines was PA from manila to LA, San Fran, or Las Vegas. I purchased it on my visa card, emailed her the e-ticket to print, and I made a copy of my Visa Card, Passport, and a note authorizing her to use the ticket to fly here and emailed it to her. Some airlines allow a one time immigrant one-way ticket purchase discount but I was not able to get it with PA. her flight was 9/23/09 and I paid in total $756.60 nonstop from MNL to SFO on a Monday which dropped in price from $930.00 from that Saturday before!

    Happy Trails!

  13. Updating list to congratulate Brian-Charisma and Filiricans. Bon voyage to Janess (OrlandoRenaldo) on the 26th.

It is also that time of the month when we start cleaning the list (to make it more manageable) by removing the names of August interviewees who have been approved and received their visas already.

Good luck to tzeksman and RickiandEva on the 17th and bevs&alex on the 18th.

Hi Filiricans! My family and I are well and thank you for asking. That's so kind of you.

I just got a plane ticket on PAL for 9/23 from MNL to San Francisco for my wife. Any friends flying on the same plane?

  14. No way I am getting any more tattoos either!!!

how about free name tattoo honestly completely free.

    abby n sheryl

When I told my wife I was going to get my first tattoo on my 40th birthday to memorialize my father and grandfather she replied "only people that have been to prison have tattoos in the Philippines!" Well, I still have no tattoos.

    Hey Doberman Guy,

Keep some tricks in your bag. The immigration process will take months if not a year and you want to keep up the romance during that long, hard time.

  15. That is great for the new job! This is truly the land of opportunity!

I have a question. My wife should be here in the USA in 2 weeks. I am not looking for her to get a job right away but was wondering how/when do they get a Social Security Number and Green Card? We did the request for one on one of the forms. How did it work for you?

  16. Another note on PAL. I sent them an email asking about a 20% one time, immigrant, one-way ticket for my wife that I heard about here on VJ. I also asked if a round trip ticket is less then a one-way can I buy that and not use the return ticket. There was the reply that the 20% is not offered with on-line tickets and I need to read the "fare rules details" to see if there will be any penalties.

I sent them back a reply with one more question and I have not received any reply. Even after sending it to them again. Looks like you only get one chance to get any questions answered by PAL.

I am going to look at the R-T ticket and really read and print the fare rules details. $630 for a R-T ticket is sure better then the $918 one-way! So far the best one-way ticket I have found it Hawaiian Air with a stop over in Hawaii. If I planned it out sooner I would have picked her up there and had another honeymoon. then both of us fly to Seattle.

    Keep the tips rolling in.
