  1. Yes I showed them everything, everything! Even the letter I got from the consulate with my visa that says upon entry I'm immediatly able to work, study and live like a permanent resident. They just don't get it!!! Argh!!! Hope to get the crazy card soon!!

Just had the *same* experience at the French consulate - I showed them my visa and stamp in the passport, they look at it and say "zis is not a green card" in their stupid French accent (no offense to the French, I love French culture, speak French and we were going to go there for vacation... I am just really pissed at them right now!). Argh!!! Was trying to explain but they just don't get it! Can't wait for the damn card to arrive already. SOOOO annoying to have to deal with this and have to prove that I have a green card, I just haven't received the actual plastic card yet...

    :bonk:

  2. I also called the POE at JFK today (found their info on the Customs and Border Protection website). They said they don't keep any files there/ don't do any processing and send out whatever they have every day. I assume this is somewhat true for every POE (i.e. that they don't process our case files there and send them to USCIS pretty much right away). So it might be pointless to go there in person, especially since they answer the phone and are quite nice when you talk to them (although not very helpful).

  3. Yay!! I just received my Welcome Letter dated July 16. This was before I called the USCIS on July 20 so things are progressing on their own :) Yay yay yay, so happy!

mrs. wife, hope you get your Welcome Letter and GC soon too! I was reading and some people never get the Welcome Letter, but just get the GC... maybe that's your case and you are right in that timeline for the GC! :)

  4. This is what I did. I called my POE and spoke to a supervisor who was able to tell me exactly when my case-file was shipped out.

I then called USCIS the next day, told them that my papers had been shipped to them by O'Hare many weeks ago -- "what do you mean I'm not in the system?" -- I was then put through to an actual immigration officer who was able to tell me when USCIS received my papers and when I should expect something in the mail.

The USCIS drones, I tell ya, are the devil's own.

    Sachinky,

How did you get the information for your POE? I arrived through JFK, would that be a CBP branch there?

Also, when did you call POE/USCIS and how long did it take to get your green card after that?

  5. I called them already and the lady said I should make a infopass. So I realized they say that to anybody if it's been more than 30 days since POE. She didn't help me at all. I'll try to call tomorrow again first thing in the morning, will try to be more persuasive and see if they can give me any real information.

The closest infopass office is 30 minutes away, so I don't think I can get it done on my lunch break.

    - I sat an appointment for next Monday at 9:15am when I didn't know I was already employed. I'll check with HR if they let me go. It was the closest date and they don't have any available date for this month.

My SSN is also messed up because it's still on my maiden name. So HR people put my name on the system as married and of course it didn't match

So now they gave me 8 federal days to go to the SS office and solve this. Oh yeah, as if it was up to me! I went there already too and she said she had updated it, but I suppose they have to wait for USCIS's input or something like that.

    Everything is sooo messed up!

I just made an InfoPass as well and the earliest they have is August 2nd... :( Hopefully will get some good news before then!

When I spoke to USCIS they took my information - receipt #, my name, address, etc., and told me they created a case number for me to send to my local office. Maybe you should call back tomorrow and ask them to do the same? I am not sure if this is better than InfoPass but maybe it will be another venue and they will get moving if they get multiple requests?

Sorry to hear about your trouble with the maiden/married name and the papers! Hopefully they resolve it soon :)

  6. My poe was June 2nd and still nothing, I mean JUUUUUNEEEE freaking 2nd!!!!!!!!!!!! Not even the welcome letter. I have a infopass appointment for next Monday but I just started my new job, so it sucks to ask for time off. At the same time I really need to get this fixed. What's going on with them?

Would it help to drive to Dulles airport and try to talk to a border patrol? At least I can go there on the weekends/anytime.

The same thing is happening to me, everyone seems to think that my visa will expire on November and nobody reads the printed area saying it's good for a year! Arghhhhhhhh

I don't think driving to Dulles airport and trying to talk to border patrol will help since afaik it's out of their hands at this point, but talking to USCIS during business hours and asking what's going on will be a good idea... you can do it on your lunch break so you won't have to take time off. Also, on the USCIS website they recommend calling them if it's been 30 days since you've been approved and you still haven't received anything. I would do that first and maybe the Infopass, unless you don't want to take time off of work?

I know, it's taking forever, and the stamp in the passport is not viewed as a "legitimate" green card by pretty much everybody, ugh. So annoying! I just want it to be over with already :(

I think it's the summer months so it's taking longer than normal, but based on other timelines in this thread we should be getting our things soon... will keep my fingers crossed! :)

  7. Well, it's a good bank, especially for my military husband.

    I'll figure it out somehow.

Try calling their 1(800) number and asking the operator for SWIFT, if they don't know, ask to speak to a supervisor and don't let them off the line, asking to speak to the supervisor of the supervisor until you get in touch with someone knowledgeable or someone who can refer you to the proper department. That's how it works with pretty much all things here, when you have trouble - call the 1(800) line and ask to speak to a supervisor :)

  8. Hi guys,

My POE was 6/24 and I am still waiting to receive *anything*... don't even have a new SS card yet. I called USCIS on 6/20 and they said they will investigate what's going on, a lady gave me a case number and told me to wait 45 days to receive a Welcome letter and then call back if I don't get anything yet.

But, we want to travel, and everyone looks funny at the visa in my passport since it says it's valid until December, nobody wants to read the fine print (that it's valid for a year with a stamp) so I am having some issues with getting visas for Europe and work stuff... so I would like to expedite the process and receive my GC as soon as possible! I can do an Infopass appointment any time, it's near our house, should I do that? I am not worried about the SS card as much as I want to get the GC!

Any suggestions please? I was reading the earlier topic with regard to the NVC and it helped *immensely* to expedite the process and make it as painless as possible... so wanted to thank everyone who contributed to that as well :)

  9. We also had our interview at the New Delhi embassy. We to were approved and the passport was kept, the Lady that interviewed us told us that we would recieve the visa in 1 week... we have been waiting 24 days to date... It is hard to keep the faith... trying to stay positive

Do you know why you were put in AP? Did they tell you at the interview that everything was fine or did they have some questions?

  10. Hi everybody :)

Congrats to everyone on the progress so far with their cases! We are all farther along than where we started, so at least that much is good :) (I am really trying to stay positive...)

We've just been issued an RFE today - haven't had any progress in two weeks and AVR still stated "your documents were received on 03/11", so I called and spoke to the operator, and they want us to resend I-864 and some additional stuff :( So I was wondering, what is the cover letter format for the RFE? Should we include the barcode on the cover letter since we are trying to mail this out ASAP? And what's the address for the I-864? The nice operator told us what the issue is - we didn't check a box in part 6, so we know what to do, just need to know what sort of cover letter to include. Please help! :)

Sachinky, my packages were delivered on 03/08/2010 and the AVR stated them as received on 03/11/2010, so it's very close to your dates (I am assuming they are using the receipt date from your second RFE), so I am sure your SIF is right around the corner! I've been reading the thread and you are always the one so helpful with the information and so on top of things, so just wanted to let you know they are processing dates very close to yours - especially considering that M&ME's SIF just happened, and they sent their papers in after we did. So I am sure you will get your CC tomorrow! (*knocks on wood*)

  11. My hubby was here on a J1 Visa & he did have a 2yr home residency requirement & thats why he went back. We have appealed it & got no objections. After that was done, I got an attorney and attorney told us we could of appealed it from US :crying::blush::angry::blink::bonk::( but it was too late my hubby was back in India. So now this is where we are at :crying:

Gosh, I SOOOO understand how frustrating it is to have a 2YHRR!!! I've been living with it until a couple of weeks ago, we just got a waiver. Our issue was that an attorney told us we couldn't get any immigration benefits until 2YHRR was either fulfilled or waived, when in reality he was talking about Adjustment of Status that couldn't be filed. It turns out we still could file I-130 from within the US and then have an appointment in Moscow - we eventually filed it that way, but only after losing a bunch of time :(

Well, you know it's going to be over soon... :) and looking at your timeline and considering that you have someone else to look over all the forms (so hopefully no RFE's) you should have your interview in May or so! :)

  12. Yes, she was pretty tiny but yes very cute.

Oh so you been here for awhile. What state you guys in if you dont mind me asking?

I hope we will be able to fly through NVC. We do have an attorney so thats helps with paperwork & making sure they are correct of the bet. May will be a year since he has been done :crying:

We are in California but have sorta moved to New York for hubby's work. We went through the CSC though since that's where we were at the time.

By the way, do check *carefully* what the lawyers tell you - I had a 2 year home residency requirement and the lawyer told us we couldn't apply for an immigrant visa until that was sorted... turned out that wasn't entirely true and we lost a lot of time :( If your case is straightforward though, that shouldn't be an issue, ours was more involved so I had to learn way too much about all the paperwork and what not :)

  13. she is doing well, thank God. And yes, its exciting to be a mom.

My hubby is Indian but I am Ukrainian. Well, good luck with that. At least your ahead of me. Where is your hubby from?

Good to hear that she is doing well, she must've been so tiny and adorable when she was born! My gf had both of her babies prematurely and she says it was much easier with childbirth, but she always tries to find positives in everything :) Although I am sure when you are a mom, that's the last thing you think about... your baby's health comes first.

My hubby is American, I am a beneficiary... lived here for a while though and we've been together since 2002 :)

Just looked at your timeline - I think you should be totally able to fly through NVC and get your appointment scheduled for May! Especially if you have all the paperwork together already and are thinking about the next steps :)

  14. Also, I just tried to log in and was able to do it without any error messages, etc. Sounds strange that you are getting those! Maybe they had a site-wide upgrade or something??

    I'm Ukrainian

I see :) I saw "India" in your profile and assumed you were from there - and was a bit surprised you have such a Slavic name :)

I doubt I'll get my interview date к 8-му марта - я только завтра отсылаю все документы... but I am really hopeful I'll get it for some time in April!

  15. So, I just got off the phone with a *very* helpful USCIS agent! Spoke to a couple of them yesterday, and sorry to say it, they were not exactly the sharpest tools - gave me conflicting advice and didn't know what was going on.

She confirmed that they start scheduling interviews beginning the second week of the month for the following month because that's when they get appointment info from the embassies. It seems they schedule them until all the appointments for the following month are allocated, so sometimes it happens sooner, other times it happens later. I guess that means they'll start scheduling appointments March 8 for April :) Now it sorta makes sense why they wait till the second week (to get appointment info from the embassies), before it was sounding like a really weird NVC rule that made no sense at all :)

  16. CHECK FOR YOUR COUNTRY IN THIS TABLE AND SEE WHAT YOU NEED TO SUBMIT..IT DOES NOT APPLY FOR ALL THE COUNTRIES

Thanks! I did that when I was first starting the process and it talks about just the regular police certificate which I got... but of course, I am reading up the forums and magical words "passport police certificate" come up, so I get all frazzled and think I am missing something :) Thanks again for reminding me to look at USCIS/DoS websites, they do have all the information.

  17. I've been assembling all the packages to send off and noticed some people are talking about Passport Police Certificate! I have my police certificate but don't know about the passport police certificate, is it the same thing or not? Do I need it? I didn't see it on the list of required documents but just wanted to make sure. My embassy is Moscow, and I've read both James' and LingChe's guides, they don't seem to mention anything about that?

Sorry guys, I know I am a worry wort, just wishing for no RFE and April interview date, so gotta send everything in tomorrow! :)
