  1. cool ! see? making the phone call is useful !!!!

i do hope you talked with a supervisor, though, as

usually the NVC Tele-Operator isn't 'empowered' enough to make the request for any 'eye-ball review'.

    A supervisor is.

My apologies for not being clearer - but

the supervisor makes the request. a supervisor cannot 'review' anything via eyeball review, but can make the request. That request will go to one or more places, depending on what is being asked for/to review. And that's ok - the request was started by a supervisor, got 'in the pipeline' and soonish, will be resolved.

    Whew !

For this, never, ever waste time with the first human that answers the telephone - must get a supervisor.

    Good Luck !

Just called in and found out our case completed Aug 30th!!! (According to the automated system) Thanks for the great advice! Just waiting for the interview date like Miss Monkey...

The supervisor I had spoke with actually gave me her name and told me I could call back and ask for her. this was a first for me, and the "eyeball review" worked!

  2. karen - here is another tactic that YOU CAN TRY - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't work.

    CALL IN TO NVC -

explain that you have a documents problem, and you need to talk with a supervisor.

ONCE you get a supervisor, you need to tell them that the certified copy was submitted with the I-130, and that you need to have the supervisor REQUEST an 'eyeball review' of the documents from the I-130, to yank out the divorce decree and utilize it with the DS-230 document set.

Mostly, this works. There are times when it has failed, but IMO, wasn't any NVC fault.

Thanks so much for the advice. They said usually it takes 24-48 hours for this "eyeball review" but because of where my documents are it could take longer, and to check back in 5 days, but sounds promising at least.

  3. Miss_Monkey - any news from Thursday?

So can I use the G-884 to request a certified copy back that was processed by the California Service Center for our NOA2 stage approval, in order to submit that doc to NVC? The G-884 form seems to assume your case is already complete, as it asks for naturalization dates.

I submitted a certified copy of my husband's divorce and they accepted it at the California Service center, but I only had a copy for NVC(along with another certified Civil Registry document from Turkey, which I thought they would accept as proof of divorce), but they rejected that, and now my husband is having trouble getting another certified copy because he has to return to the town in which the divorce was filed and he is working on the other side of the country for the summer.

  4. Divorce is a flag.. Hence why I am waiting a decision after our interview. I married before and divorced, granted the man I married I believe used me and I have formed INS and gave the IO emails, which he kept. That being said our interview was not crazy. I was just told because I was married islamically to the previous jerk, they wanted to make sure islamically the marriage is over. I gave them the divorce records from the court (guess separation from chruch and state does not matter in this case) and my current marriage was done by the Imam, who would never marry us if he thought I was already married... I don't know, it is driving me crazy. I understand their concern. However, I told the IO the guy I married does not have his perm GC just a temp, they can and should pull it. Ppl like him don't deserve to be in my country. Just be prepared for some questions. Just be honest that is truly the best policy!

Could someone clarify the point about Islamic divorce? My husband is Islamic and got divorced legally through the court system in Turkey, but is there some requirement for religious divorce as well? His ex-wife has gotten re-married religiously, but not civilly. Our case has been at the NVC for 6 weeks , 4 weeks since I returned the checklist letter docs, and I am starting to wonder about why it is taking so long.

    thanks,

    Karen

  5. These are the instructions for the DS-230 Supporting Documents. It asks you to submit a photocopy of all documents along with the original:

    Photocopy Requirements

In addition to sending the original documents or certified copies of the documents to the NVC, the applicant and each accompanying family member must submit a photocopy of the original documents or certified copies of the documents.

  6. I just realized that I forgot to send a set of photocopies with the DS-230 Package of documents I sent in.

Has anyone not sent photocopies and gotten an RFE for this? or had no trouble?

I am wondering if I should overnight a set of photocopies or wait to hear from them?

    many thanks for your input!

    Karen

I called NVC this monring and they said they do not need the photocopies, just the documents. But I would still follow the directions to be safe!

  8. NOA1, yeah!

Teya, looks like our dates are similar and both going through California Service Center, so let's keep in touch for date tracking comparisons...

KristiAnn, I can imagine how frustrating that delay and lack of info must be. Makes no sense. My husband is from Turkey and I am expecting delays, etc, with it being a primarily muslim country, bordering Iraq and Syria, etc. But from Canada? Your case sounds so straight forward, must be random selection process. Hopefully smooth sailing after this, but I feel for you!

My husband's middle name did not appear on the NOA1 and it says to call immediately if any errors, and I was so careful to put his middle name on each and every document. The phone call to USCIC was not reassuring as they could not tell me if the missing middle name was an error or not and asked me how I wanted the name to appear? They ended up sending a message to CSC that there is a typographical error and middle name should appear. Who knows if that will delay things or end up putting our file in some stack for an extra month? It is just seems like such a beurocratic system with no control.

    Good luck to everyone!

  9. Hello,

Can someone tell me how to calculate household size for the I-184 if my husband's children will not be coming to the US, but will remain in their home country with his extended family?

Do I include them in our household size for meeting the 125% of the poverty guidelines or not? He will be supporting them financially, but their cost of living is much lower than the US.

    thanks!

  10. I appreciate your post, as I have similar reactions when hearing these stories of people being used or taking advantange of the system. I don't know how those people live with themselves or justify their behavior. It certainly hurts the system for the rest of us, as the government has every right to suspect and not trust visa apps, as so many are with ill or false intentions. And the broken hearts of those taken advantage of are just unthinkably sad.

But I agree with the response that we should not judge or get caught up in what we cannot control, and just do our best to wait patiently and have trust in faith in our own actions.

I got incredibly frustrated when my husband recently sent me some incorrectly signed paperwork, that means another 1-2 weeks waiting for registered mail from Turkey, and delaying the process, but a friend had good advice to be patient and thankful for having a spouse, when others are so lonely, not just physically alone, as those of us waiting for a visa are, but alone in their hearts as well.

I think the number 1 reason for visa fraud is economic, and we should have some understanding for poor people from countries in dire conditions--but still no excuse for breaking someone's heart and stealing their time when they could be building a true relationship. Let's pray for those misguided folks, rather than condeming them...

  11. This is correct - no need to MAIL, only EMAIL things during NVC Electronic Processing.

I think it's cool - parents have the original documents in China, they scan and email them to YOU, you prep all for each 'set' - then email it off to NVC. IS REALLY REALLY REALLY COOL ;)

I am a bit confused--so can one opt to do the DS-230 completly electronically with pdfs of the originals and avoid sending the originals in? Is this new? first time reading about this...

  12. I finally got a customer Service Rep from USCIS on the phone to double check about this, and they told me they cannot tell me how to write the name on the form or how to fill it out, as that is giving advice, and they are not allowed to do that. I can understand the legality of that, but pleeeeeese. It seems like a straightforward question to me.

When I talked to the embassy in Ankara they said to write it exactly as it appears on his Turkish Passport, so that is my only hesitation in "Americanizing" it.

  13. The "Roman Letter" part confuses me, because I thought that question just meant to write the name if it is in characters such as Arabic or Chinese or Russian, but "S" is still a "Roman Letter" it just has an accent mark. I am just afraid if it does not match his ID it will cause problems, as in Turkish "S" and "Ş" are two different letters creating two different names. Has anyone filed the form WITH accent marks and had or not had problems?. thanks!

  14. Any advice on filing US taxes when your spouse lives outside of the US and has no social yet?

I think I am required to file as married, since we maried in Dec, but not sure how to handle this.

I think the 2555 form is only for US citizens or residents, so not sure if I am suppose to include his foreign income or just file marry filing separately?

Somone told me married filing separately is the worst way to file for exemptions, etc.

    Anyone familiar with this?

    thanks,

    Karen

  15. Hello,

I have seen this question asked before, but no adequate answer.

When you call the 1-800-375-5283 number it is a maze of menu options, none of which offer a live person, yet the message says a live person is available 8-5.

How does one get to a manu option to request a person? Do you just stay on the line and not push anything?

I can't figure this out and it is driving me nuts.

    thanks,

    Karen

  16. Hello,

Does anyone know the rules for filing out names on the I-130 (or other related forms, G325A, etc) if letters appear in a name with accent marks not existing on standard English keyboards?

My husband is a Turkish Citizen and his name contains letters such as "İ" and "Ş"

Should I write them exactly as they appear on his Turkish passport, or "Americanize" them as a standard "I" and "S"

I tried calling the Customer Support 800-375-5283 number, but the menue gives no option to speak to a live person?

    Any Advice?

    thanks,

    Karen

  17. Hı,

As A US cıtızen I have never heard of anythıng lıke thıs other than unemployment or welfare--the poınt of the questıon ıs that my fıance has two chıldren who wıll remaın lıvıng wıth theır grandmother ın Turkey for now and he ıs wonderıng ıf they wıll count as dependants and/or what the nature of thıs support for chıldren ıs?

Any advıce would be apprecıate. thanks!

  18. Thank you so much to everyone for your quick and detailed replies. It looks like we will just have to go with the K1 and wait as long as it takes, as I cannot reside in Turkey for 6 months right now and therefore cannot meet the residency requirements for the DCF. And yes, I have heard that K3 is obsolete...best to go with the CR1, as processing times are now equivelent, but for time's sake it looks like the K1 is the way to go for us. And great to hear from someone else from Turkey--I might send questions your way in the future once we start the process. So happy to find this site!

  19. Hello,

I am a bit overwhelmed by reading all of the State Dept. info and questions and answers on this site. My fiance is a turkish citizen and I am a US citizen. We were planning on filing for a K1 Visa, but it looks like that takes at least 6 months. What I am wondering is if he could come back to the US with me sooner if we were to marry in Turkey and file with the embassy there--but as I am not a Turkish resident I do not know if this is possible. In general what is the fastest way to be together--regarless of citizenship status, greencard processing, etc. We just do not want to be apart for 6 months and I have to return to the US in the Fall.
