  2. hi, just call the embassy thru PLDT business centers, that's the accredited phone company of the visa center in embassy if yuo are in the phil, but your hasband can also call them. Good luck

  3. i had my interview Nov. 4, 2009 then AIr21 texted my Nov. 5 that they got my visa for delivery soon, but it was delivered in my good hands Nov. 9 coz the Fed-ex office is too far from my house so it takes a couple ofday before i got it, It really depends upon the situation. You should be having your visa soon, just pray it will be over and worth waiting. Good luck

  4. hi guys thanks so much for the tip! was finally able to convince my fiance, thank god.. the only thing he pointed out is if we could settle in the bay area or near bay area for the sake of his job. my father initially suggested sacramento but it's too far from my fiance's job.

i called a real estate person as referred to me by my father and told her our preference. she suggested RICHMOND. my fiance is okay with it. the problem is my father who won't get us a house there because 3 filipino friends of his were mugged and murdered in that area.. so i went back to the real estate person and she suggested some places near richmond called BERKELEY, EL CERRITOS and ALBANY. okay with dad, okay with fiance. the real estate will send me pictures of the available houses once i confirmed.

any personal thoughts about these places? which of the 3 should we consider? our preference is peaceful neighborhood and accessibility. and of course my fiance's safety when he walks at night.

..by the way i asked some residents in a forum called city-data.com and all they say is stay away from california if we want to have a peaceful life. i don't know why they're so upset..

OK, here's the skinny from a long-time local resident. Berkeley's a great town. But as a college town, it tends to be expensive to live in. Stay away from the flats (the area by the Bay) on the south side of town. That's the only bad part of Berkeley. That's the area adjacent to mine in North Oakland. It's cheaper there, but not as nice. Near campus, in the hills, or north Berkeley are nice.

Albany, you can't go wrong. It's a small town, but it's expensive, too.

El Cerrito is also generally nice. In the hills is best. Once again, stay away from the flats. Closer to the bay = worse neighborhood.

  5. Stockton is paradise compared to 3 other towns in the Bay Area, i.e. Oakland, Richmond and Vallejo. But, if you care to settle down in that vicinity, try Pleasanton, San Ramon or Danville, all in the East Bay.

OK, I've got to defend my hood here. Oakland's got a bad rap that is deserved in some respects, and seriously off-base in others. Are there bad parts of Oakland? Oh, yeah! East Oakland...not a place to settle down with your SO. Same with West Oakland, but it's a little better. North Oakland? That's where I am and where my Filipina wife will be arriving in a week. I wouldn't call it a GOOD neighborhood. But I feel safe on the streets walking around. I know my neighbors. We're always friendly when we meet in the store or on the street. We are close to the Berkeley border, and the neighborhood gets much better as you go north from here. Is this ideally where I want to be living with my wife when she arrives? No, but it's not dangerous, it's just not ideal. We take the cards life deals us. It's not a BAD neighborhood, it could just be better, that's all.

Are there good neighborhoods in Oakland? Oh yeah! Claremont, Rockridge, Piedmont, anywhere up in the hills...along with the bad neighborhoods, there are some fabulous neighborhoods that are wonderful areas to settle down and raise a family in.

Same goes for Richmond. If you live in the Iron Triangle area there, you take your life in your own hands every time you walk out the door. But not much more than a mile away is the area of Point Richmond, which is an idyllic little community snuggled against the bay. And the Richmond hills are also a nice place to live there.

All I know of Vallejo is where my friend Trudy used to live in a condo overlooking the Carquinez strait there. Our bluegrass band used to rehearse looking out over that vista...it was pretty nice and secluded.

Many towns that have bad reps are known just for that, but there are usually good spots to be found in them. I'm not too familiar with Stockton, but there's probably nice areas there, too.

  6. It's a judgment call. It definitely helps to be there. My wife had her interview yesterday, and she passed without me being there. Did I want to be there? Oh, yeah! But our finances didn't allow that to happen. If you can afford to go, I would say yes, go and be at the interview. With everything going on and the expenses of getting a visa and immigrating, that's not always practical. If your case is straightforward, there should be no problem of your SO passing the interview. Nonetheless, it's a stressful time when it's good to be there to support your SO. I say go if it's financially reasonably feasible. If not, save your funds for your immigration journey.

  7. My wife's interview was scheduled for 37 minutes ago in Manila. I'm going crazy here waiting for news. She met a friend here on VJ whose interview started 7 minutes ago, so she's probably waiting for her to finish before she leaves there. Just waiting for now...

    Best wishes pseith!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No one else has an interview in November? I find that hard to believe.

We had a November interview , but it got moved up to October, and we all know how that turned out, LOL

I have to laugh, or I will cry.

    Best wishes November interviewers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beth, all our love is going out to you. You are the rock of this site. God bless you and Mo, and we are all praying that you will both be together soon. I am just crying here because after all this long journey, Joy got her visa approved today. Nothing can express how I feel right now. I'm just crying tears of joy now. Wow! When it's all done and over, and your loved one is just waiting for the passport to be mailed back...it's a pretty good feeling. I'm waiting to hear news of how the interview went now. Her friend she went with passed too...

  8. Beth, I can only send you love and support for you and Mo. I remember one point in our journeys, we were at the same place. I think it was waiting for NVC to acknowlege our cases. You went through a day after us as I recall. My wife's interview is in Manila within 48 hours from now, and that is my main preoccupation right now, but that is not the only case I've been worried about. My thoughts and prayers have been with you also. I was worried that something was wrong when you didn't post for a few days. You've been honest about your situation to all the immigration agents, so there's no reason for you not to be able to be with your loving husband. I hope he is there with you soon. I hope my wife is here with me soon. We all here know the pain of being apart from our loved ones. God bless you both, and I hope you are together soon.

  9. Hello All,

I just login in NVC site, I am getting login failed..then I called NVC and the operator told me that our case is still under review..

I send my last paper work they required 2 weeks ago.. anybody here has the same expererience ? please share.. is this a good indication that our case is completed and the operator system is not updated yet?

    Thanks

    Bigbear

Congratulations! Login failure means your case is complete at NVC! AVR is slow to have info there, but if you call an operator tomorrow, you will hopefully be able to get updated information from them.

BTW, you should fill in your timeline here. You'll get more help if others know more about your situation. And we can all then compare our timelines to see how things are going versus others.

  11. HELLO,VJers!!! im new here. please help me to understand this fact. i've got my interview date from NVC through my email and my interview is on November 13,2009. but i did not receive any letter from USEm manila. should i have to wait for their letter before i go to st. Luke for medical?

im looking forward to hear from anybody here soon. Thanks and God Bless you all!!!

    anna

Congratulations! Just print out the email from NVC with your appointment date to St. Luke's, along with all other info requested in the email, for the medical. My wife is going on Monday for her medical at St. Luke's before her embassy interview on Nov. 4. Don't wait until the last minute. A friend of ours on VJ went to the medical just before the interview, and the results were not forwarded in time for the interview. Now she has to reschedule the interview and go back to Manila again.
