Finland doesn't issue birth certificates either, instead you need an "extract from the population information system", or utdrag ur befolkningsdatasystemet. I wonder if it's the same in Sweden?
Yes, it is the same thing in Sweden. You need a "personbevis" , but a specific one. As opposed to the regular personbevis it cannot be downloaded or ordered online. Call the tax authority (Skatteverket) at 020‑567 000 and ask for a personbevis in English for the US Embassy. It needs to be stamped and signed by Skatteverket. They know which kind it is. A good idea is to ask for a couple of extra ones (I needed one for the AOS application). You will get it in the mail in a few days.
Good luck with your visa journey!

I travelled with the GC and extension letter to Sweden and back. No problem when returning.
Should not cause any problems. A word of advice though - make photocopies of both the GC and the extension letter and keep them in a safe place. You never know what could happen.
Good advice. I had two sets of copies, just to be on the safe side...
Some members even reported that when they entered the US, the officer did not ask for the letter and the GC was enough since the system will show that it is extended for a year... but take it with you!!!
I had to show the extension letter at check-in in Sweden, and explain what it meant in order to get on the plane (they seemed a little confused about it). When I entered the US the CBP officer only looked at my (expired) GC. I tried to show him the extension letter but he said it wasn't necessary. I guess he could see that the GC was extended anyway.

Good information. Adding my limited knowledge on the subject: If you have a valid driver's license from Canada, Germany or France, you only have to pass the vision screening. Your license will be replaced with a Virginia one (you have to surrender the other one to the DMV) just like if you had held a driver's license from another US state. (Why Germany and France? I asked the same question, but no-one at the Alexandria DMV seemed to know.)
If you have a valid driver's license from another country you will have to take the full test (vision, questions and driving), but you get to keep your foreign driver's license. You also don't need to have a learner's permit and take the driver education program - stuff that people with no previous license have to.
For Swedish readers: the test (both questions and driving) is waaaay easier than the Swedish test... You won't need a study book, just download the questions and answers from the DMV website (www.dmv.virginia.gov).
Here is more info on eligibility requirements: DMV Now: Driver License Eligibility Requirements

For example the UK lets you have both but Sweden does not.
Since 2001 Sweden also accepts dual citizenship.

Congratulations Olle!
Thank you! I hope you get your approval very soon too!

I travelled home to Sweden for 2 weeks, bringing my extension letter. No update on the USCIS website the whole time.
When I returned back this weekend the approval letter was waiting in the mail pile! No RFE, no interview (again)!

Incorrect....AOS always have an interview....ROC (If you have filed jointly) there is a very minute chance that there will be an interview ...ROC(Filing for a waiver) most definately there will be an interview...
Not true - lots of people have their AOS approved without having to have an interview. We sure did!
Same here. I arrived on K1 on June 2006. Applied for AOS in August 2006. Approved without interview in June 2007.

Work Permit Stamp Upon Entry to the US w/ K1?
in Working & Traveling During US Immigration
Posted
When I arrived in 2006(!) on my K1 only NY was still giving out the work permit stamp (I entered in Philly so I didn't get one). I think NY stopped giving them around 2008.
