  1. i have my green card since 2006 i recently got married and at the court house they told me i had to change my name to my husbands. i personally wanted to keep my name but the daily at the court house made it clear i had to change it or my husband had to change it. i went to social security to request for my social security card to be change i even ask them if i had to change my name and they said yes so i went along with it. They told me i had to call immigration for a new green card request and gave me a phone number. i called and the person i talk to told me i didnt had to change my green card so i didnt. i received my new social security card within a couple of weeks after. now after a year of being married i lost my social security card so i went to request for a new one. they told me i couldnt get one until i change my green card. i call immigration again to ask and this time they said i had to change my green card. in order to do this i have to pay around 500 and wait atleast 6 months until i get finger prints again basicly go through the whole process again. Knowing how divorce rates are so high and me and my husband having some issues already i dont think is a good idea to change my green card pay 500 dollars and then what if i get divorce in a few months that means another 500. i m a college student i dont have the money to do this. plus i really dont want to graduate a get a diploma with my husbands name on it. seriously my parents deserve to have some credit on how far i have gone with my career. i want to have my maiden name back on my social what can i do. social security wouldnt change it back even though my green card has my maiden name. Right now i just got laid off work and cant apply for another job because i dont have a social security card.
