  1. I dont' see any problem bringing your parents to the waiting area. I went with my husband 5 years ago, we were not married then. But I wouldn't bring a newborn into a crowded place - there will be a lot of people there, a lot of germs in this season. I like the advice for your parents to stay in the nearby park. I would personally have left my baby at home and left milk in the bottle for baby to eat.

  2. Hey guys..

an update from us - we're approved!

It was a long day, the interview was scheduled at 2 pm in Garden City, NY. We arrived at 1 pm and had to wait until 3 pm to be called. There were just sooo many couples. Some officers calling people were so nice and smiling right away, some were not showing any emotions at all. We were called by a woman who at first didn't look nice but once we were in her room, she was smiling and joking. She wanted to swear us in and told us to remain standing, and my husband didn't understand what to do at first - he went back to the door. She laughed and said - don't go, it's not over yet:))

Then she asked for our ID's, I-94, marriage certificate. Asked if my husband had a driver's license, and was surprised that he didn't have one. Then she asked how we got to the Immigration Office, he explained all our route with the buses, trains etc. She said that the taxi drivers were awful over there, and we made a good deal payin $27 compared with the minimum $100 the taxi would have cost us.

Then she asked me about my visa, where I studied, what degree I obtained and what I studied. She seemed satisfied with the answers.

Then she asked my husband about our relations, how we met each other. He started to tell her our story, and I couldn't stop smiling - he was sooo cute then:)

Then she asked for some mutual documents, we had only joint bank account, our names on the T-mobile bill, and gym membership. She asked if we were actually going there, and once again laughed, because my husband isn't actually going now because of the back injury, she said that men always find excuses.

Also she wanted to see some pictures, seemed to like them, we showed her pictures of our honeymoon in Florida, and she started to talk about Florida. She took one picture to keep on file.

Then asked me all the questions about weapons, prostitution etc.

Then asked if I want to have my passport stamped - of course I did!

The interview lasted 20 minutes, and during it I had really good feeling - she is a very good person and made us feel very comfortable.

So, although my case status online hasn't yet changed, I got a stamp in my passport and in about 2 weeks they said I'll receive the card.

Special for lostfairyuk - Garden City is a very good place, though it's crowded but according to what I know from other people and what I saw today - they are likely to tell you if you're approved right away, and today we saw all people getting their passports stamped. Don't worry, I'm sure your interview will be a breeze. WIll keep my fingers crossed for you on Monday :)

Thank you guys for your support, it really means a lot to me!!! (L)(L)(L)

  3. Hello everyone, please help me with my I-864. I try to find some information on website, but I could not.

I am filling our Affidavit of Support (I-864) for my joint sponsor and I do not know what to indicate in # 19.

    Citizenship/Residency

Iam a US Citizen - he receives it though naturalization, he actually from Ukraine.

I am a US national (for joint sponsor only)

I think I have to indicate that he is US citizen, not a us national.

    Please advice.

    thank you very much.

    kate

I checked that my husband is US Citizen (he is also a former Ukrainian, naturalized American citizen)

  4. @mashamisha - let me know what you have decided - what train bus etc, and good luck to you! the journey i mean. i am sure the interview will go fine.

We'll take the subway to Atlantic/Pacific, from there by LIRR train to Hempstead, and from Hempstead there's a bus (N24) going to Stewart avenue. According to Google directions this should take about 2 hours to get there. We have interview at 2 pm, so we should be fine with time. 2 roundtrip LIRR train tickets are $27.

Thank you lostfairyuk and SHellyalex for your wishes! Good luck with your journey too!!!

  5. Hi is it normal or specific (as in case by case basis) to receive an interview appointment letter with an extra instruction page asking if you ever have been arrested....

Does this happen to everybody, most of us or just me

Please experienced people guide me here.

I also got this extra page, I assume they send it to everybody. I wouldn't worry much about it.

  6. Hey guys,

Just also wanted to report that I used my AP to go back to England the other week. Returning was a fine. I handed the 2 pieces of paper to the officer, they did a couple of things then sent me into the room for processing on the computer. The lady stamped my passport with a new stamp and handed me back the 2 APs, good to go.

Upon my return home I received my interview letter! Interview in Garden City NY 2nd November. Have to say - am excited and mad - excited to have the interview so close but mad because I have no idea where Garden City is!! I live in Brooklyn, and I guess they don't put much thought into where is easiest to get to for us.

Oh well. I spent some time getting over my jet lag making a photobook on shutterfly of pictures spanning our relationship, as I have a free one from some promotion they were doing. It arrived yesterday and looks super cute!

    xo

We also have an interview in Garden City on October 29, and we live in Brooklyn as well. Because we don't have a car we're going to get there by train and a bus. I wish it doesn't rain like today, it's going to be a looooong trip.

  7. Sorry to hear that they were rude to you...

I had my biometrics taken 08/28 and to my surprise all people were extremely nice to me there. Probably because afterwards all the applicants had the chance to evaluate their work anonymously.

By the way, I wouldn't worry about "Warning Match" - I had these words almost for each of my finger  Later I read the forums and found that this is very common to many people, nothing to worry about.

If you are still in the system under your maiden name, it's good that you scheduled infopass - better be on the safe side and check it during your appointment.

  8. Hi y'all,

    I have yet another question.

I will get married on Saturday (yay!) and am planning on sending out my AOS package on Wednesday. I plan on going to the SS office on Monday, to get my card updated with my married name. I thought I could just bring my marriage certificate and passport, with the J-1 visa showing the expiration date 09/19.

Now I heard that this might not be possible, as my visa is about to expire and the SS office will not produce a new card in this case. Does anybody know something for sure here and might be able to tell me, if I will be able to get the new SS card?

Also, I know that Texas only gives out drivers licenses, if you have a visa that is still valid for at least 180 days from the day of applying. Does that mean I will have to wait for my greencard to get the license switched over into the married name?

Thank you so much for your help!

    Betti

I don't think you'll get a new SS card until you're done with your AOS process.

I wanted to do the same thing about 3 weeks ago, showed them passport, my work authorization card (with F-1 OPT status), and marriage certificate with the new name. Lady in SS Office said that they cannot change my SS card until US government issues a document with a new name on it (i.e. EAD card,GC). So I have to wait for a GC first, then apply for a SS Card.

  9. We met online, in a quiz chat room, a place for crazy people who answer all kinds of tricky long questions in 1-2 seconds. He held the first place among all the players, and I just happened to be the one who typed the answers faster than him
