  1. Hello everyone!

I haven't read this thread in a while now. Haven't written anything, cause I don't really have any great news. We still haven't applied, so.... don't even wanna think about it.

Jenn, god to see you optimistic and strong as usual. Maybe you can predict something good for us :) Though we would have to apply first I'm sure... and for now we can't...

Krystle, we've had so many hard days.... mostly me, cause I don't like many of the things in here or cause I think my husband is a little naive and he believes whatever people promise him... It's been really hard and I thought about going back so many times... I'm not sure if love is enough, when you eat shitty food, neglect your health, have no friends, no money, no car, no job and if you're still able to say that life is beautiful and at least we have each other.

Anyway, I don't know what problems you two have, but trust me whatever it is, it can always be worse. There's nothing that cannot be solved. Or almost nothing. If both of you wanna make it work, it will happen.

I had many pages to read, so I don't remember all the events. Congratulations to everyone who passed their biometrics, who got their EAD etc. Good luck to everyone who is still waiting. Hope everyone gets the green card soon, cause I know how hard it is to stay home without being able to work....

Has anyone in here started working yet? I'm wondering how hard it is to get a job, being a foreigner and taking into account the economy....

Frenzyheart, good look with the job, school and hope you have a very beautiful wedding!

    take care everyone!

  2. Im sorry to hear that you can't find a job...neither you or your husband...and you certainly, of course, can't live without food. Being a volunteer is a nice idea if you are not sure what to do with yourself and you have enough time to help others.

I wish I could help you but unfortunately I can't.

I wish you both all the best in your efforts to find a job. (F)

Thank you! You are really sweet!

  3. We got married in Virginia and we didn't sign the marriage certificate either. Actually my name was mispelled on the certificate, so I'm not even sure we're really married :)) Anyway, we gotta order copies by mail so I guess we will have the right name on them...

Jenn, good to see you active in here. Hope the whole chemo process will be easier and easier for you. I'm thinking about you....

I have been here for 5 months now, staying home and I'm starting to lose my minds. I was wondering if I can get any kind of job if I dont have a GC or a SS yet.... Probably not.... I dont really know what to do... Im an active person and Im not used to staying home for so long.... I'm pretty dissapointed with the whole situation in here and really sad that my husband cannot find a job.

  4. Our POE was Atlanta, but I travelled with my fiance as well. The line for american citizens was very big and Im glad we talked to someone before waiting. When the guy heard that Im with K1 visa, he guided us to go to a different office where there was no line. They checked the yellow envelope (about 5 minutes) and then we went to another office where they asked us a couple of questions (were there for about 15 min).

  5. We just discovered Earth Fare organic stores. They are amazing. Everything is HFCS free and the bread is delicious. Yes, it is more expensive than regular stores but it is worth it. Plus, they have sales on certain things every now and then so you can find stuff cheaper than Walmart. A jar of peanut butter with no hydrogenated oil is 3.29. A box of cereals HFCS free is about the same price. You can find thousands of products and they are all so fresh and taste so good. They got cooked food, they got their own bakery, plus you can taste most of the products.

And one more thing. They got this thing right now, called pantry make-over. You have to download the coupon on their website and bring unhealthy stuff that you got home (if you got any). They will take cereals, soda, jelly, salad dressing (or barbecue sauce or ketchup) with HFCS and peanut butter with hydrogenated oils and give you healthy options in return. All free. You gotta try it!

  6. Thanks for the answers girls. The romanian forum said that I need to file for AOS within the 90 days so it got me confused.

Ancica, good to hear that you will fly next week. I don't watch the news so I didn't know anything about the volcano until my mum told me on monday. It was crazy, so I really hope things are back to normal now.

Maggie, welcome in the USA! Keep us posted on base life.

    Congratulations Kayla!

Well, it looks like I won't be having any wedding after all, so there goes my dream of being a bride... I didn't even care much about a wedding. I just wanted my mum to see her only daughter in a white dress. I knew it would make her happy...

  7. I need to check the forum every day cause Ive been away for a couple of days and I find it hard to catch up with all the news.

Well, I hope everyone is good around here.

Krystle, I hope you have good news tomorrow.

BTW, I am scared of mice too. Mice and wasps and crickets... I've been having a couple of bad experiences since I got here. The house where we lived in belonged to his granny who is pretty old so the house wasnt exactly in the best shape. She just moved out before we got in here so my fiance didnt have time to clean all the house. So I spent my first days cleaning ###### and rat or mice poop and I still cant get rid of all the odours. It's not fun....

Then, a few weeks later I discovered termites. I didnt even know what they were cause I never seen any.... So... Im having a great time :)

Well, and I just realized today that Im really dumb.. I thought we could apply for AOS after the 90 days... I guess I didnt pay attention... So... no more wedding dreams, no more nothing... just getting married and hopefully we'll get the money for the papers in time... If not... who knows... i might even get deported.

  8. Congratulations, Maggie!

Ancica, you and David look great together! I don't know why I thought you're already in the US... I see that you got the wedding on the 27th? How were you able to plan it? People keep saying that you can plan a wedding in less than a month and my future mother-in-law even said that I don't need money for a wedding  Interesting point of view.... I don't know how I'm gonna be able to find shoes and a dress my size cause I wear the smallest size....

How is wedding planning going for everyone else?

Hope you all have a great day!

  9. Hey, girls! I'm really sorry for disappearing again. I really feel bad about it. Im glad to see that you are still here and that this topic got to 240 pages. Thats great. I will be joining you from now on, no matter what. No more excuses. I still havent had the chance to read all that I missed but the first thing I read when I got here was about Jenn getting married. Congratulations Jenn! May you have a wonderful life together! The religious ceremony is separate from the legal one in Romania, as well. The religious one is a big deal to me, but Im afraid I wont be able to get married in an orthodox church in here... So, Im sure it meant alot for Fuat to do it according to their tradition.

So who else got married? I hope everyone on the forum is ok.

I have been trying to find my place in here... It is getting hard to stay home all day with no job, no driving license... I cant walk anywhere, cant go anywhere by myself. My fiance is trying to get a job and its not going to good. Alot of scammers these days....

I am a little stressed about the whole wedding thing. I dont even know if we can afford any kind of wedding and I keep asking myself if that matters or not... I just know that ur mum would love to see me wearing a white dress and having a little wedding even if she cannot be a part of it. I have no idea whats gonna happen... I guess I'll just wait and see...

So, hope to hear good news from all of you every day!

    Roxy

  10. I'm having the same problem. Even the Italian and French loaves I found seem a lil sweet to me and they re way to soft to be able to slice them nicely.

Try the Greek pita and Italian wraps. They are not sweet at all and they are delicious. You just have to eat wraps instead of sandwiches, but you wont regret it.

Panera Bread has some french baguette that is really good. Not sweet, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I love it, just a bit too expensive.

  11. I feel like I should say something on this subject, since I asked the same question when I got here. What is American cuisine? My fiance didn't really have an answer for me, but I discovered it myself.

I have been here for a month now and one of the things that I'm really excited about is the food. The variety of food in the stores. There are so many choices, so many options, that everyone can be happy.

I made a blog so I could keep in touch easier with my friends, and also to write about the things I like and this way adjust easier in USA. So far, the blog has really helped me a lot, but at the same time, my friends are worried that I am eating a lot and Im eating unhealthy food :)))

I deffinitely don't eat a lot. My weight has been around 90 pounds for years :) I probably eat less than I ate at home, I just didnt blog about it so my friends now are freaking out :)

To get to my point, I feel like Im eating much healthier than I ever did. When I hear people saying that America is all about fast food and hamburgers and pizza, it just hurts me. It is my country now and even though I don't like it 100%, I have to defend it. That is not true. It is all about choices in here. You can choose. You can eat hamburgers or other fast food stuff, or you can eat good food. Noone forces you to eat bad food. I have eaten a portion of vegetables almost every day since I am here. I never did that at home even though I have always loved vegetables. I didnt even know how to cook vegetables in such a way to save most of their vitamins and I learned that from my fiance.

There are so many vegetables in here that I have never seen in my country, like yellow squash, rutabaga, black eyed peas... I have never eaten okras or asparagus before coming here. Now I love them.

I found a lot of salad mixes that I love - just green leaves that are perfect on top of a sandwich, or with a steak. I am amazed at hoa many fat-free products I found - fat-free milk (lactosis free too), sour-cream, low-fat cheese. Then I never ate turkey before coming here. It is probably the healthiest meet and I find it very tasty.

I was happy to find a lot of products without MSG (more and more difficult to find them in my country, except for organic stores that are really expensive), 100% natural eggs, organic chicken at good prices and I could go on and on....

The one thing that I was really unhappy about was the bread. I read the topic about it before getting here and I was a little scared. I dont like the sweet bread and I find that many of them are so sweet.... But, I discovered greek pita which is really good (whole wheat one is my fav), different wraps that aree also good and Im happy about it now.

I dont know if there are 100% authentic American food for the simple reason that there are people from all over the world in here. It's a mixture of cultures, hence of foods. Still, there are many foods in here that I never heard about before, or just variations of popular dishes, that I think they might be specific for USA: the famous peanutbutter and jelly (I really like it, give it a try), cornbread (we have a kind of corn meal in my country, like polenta), mashed potatoes with unpeeled potatoes (I loooove it), sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese, barbecued ribs, fried chicken (it is different in my country), mashed potatoes with steak and gravy, biscuits, bagels, chili dogs, American pizza is for sure different than Italian pizza (thin and crispy), the potato soup is so different than the ones back home, but I looooove these ones so much :), then there are the deserts: the famous American pies, cheesecakes, banana pudding, the cobbler, the chocolate lava cake (mmmmm), red velvet cake, marshmellows, etc etc

They might not be genuine American foods, but to me they mean America. And remember, if you don't like the food in here, just change it :) You have the choice!

  12. Hello guys! Long time no see :) I really missed this forum and Im really glad to see that the september topic is still on top of the list.

Ive been in the USA for almost 2 weeks now and I think its going pretty good. I hated it for like 24 hours but then it got better. Every now and then I remember that im so far from home and I miss my family and my friends and I get a lil sad but Im trying to keep my mind busy with other things.

We had our interview on february 2nd and it was so easy. I would have to thank my fiance for being there with me and supporting me otherwise im sure i would have gone crazy. He spent 2 weeks with me and my family in Romania and then we flew together on the 15th of february. Thank God, we have been pretty lucky so far.

Im gonna try to read all the posts I missed so far and catch up with the news and I'll be back soon.

  13. Sorry everyone for my previous post. Its been a hard night and day. I went to bed at 4 after trying to figure out things with my fiance, woke up at 7 and wasnt able to go to work. So I ended up staying home till 12.30 to talk to him again and try to find a solution. Then I had to go to work, tired, hungry, frustrated, trying to hold my tears. I really didnt think it was gonna be that hard.... I know there's nothing much to be said, but i guess i just needed to hear that 'everything is gonna be ok'..... Ive been really bitchy this morning and my fiance doesnt deserve it. Its not his fault things are they way they are. Its not his fault that noone in his family wants to sign or that his friend promissed he would do it but he seems to be a procrastinator.... Im just scared and i gotta stay strong for him and dunno how.... I just wish people would keep their promisses...... I can only trust God and my amazing man.

Sebas&Lily: Joining our september group was good luck :) Congratulations! And good to see another romanian-american couple in here!

paciencia y fe: Congratulations for the interview date. Mine should be a week later. I hope I wont have to postpone it...

  14. Welcome back Jenn. Hope you 2 will be together as soon as possible.

I cant sleep. And i gotta wake up in 5 hours. Dont even feel like going to work anymore. I scheduled for the interview and i dont even know if we will have a cosponsor :crying: A friend promissed to do it, but I got a feeling it's just bull....t

I just dunno what to do..... I cant believe that one damn piece of paper keeps me away from him. I am pretty desperate.....

  15. We are trying to fill in I-134 but we're not sure about some details.

If the co-sponsor will be a friend of my fiance, what shall he write at question 3: relationship to sponsor?

"Fiancee of a friend of mine"?

Is it harder to get the visa if the cosponsor is not a relative but a friend? What kinda questions will they ask me at the interview about my fiance's friend? I wanna be as ready as possible for this. Thanks
