  1. Answer no, and for explanation write "Will have all vaccinations fulfilled at the medical before immigrating to the US".

Yes, the medical does require you to have a police report as well. So go for the copy option of the police report. About 6 quid for the copy. They both look exactly the same :).

    Good luck!

Omg!! That is so annoying!! We already ordered and received the police certificate - do you know if it's possible to do the 6 pound option if you already got your certificate??? Ugh why did I not know this would be needed in two places at the same time :crying:

  2. Hi All,

I'm completing the DS-260 online Immigrant Visa application for my mum. One of the questions that confused me was the following:

Do you have documentation to establish that you have received vaccinations in accordance with U.S. law?

As far as I understand it, once the IV form and AOS have been accepted, my mum will receive a request to go for a medical and will get any vaccinations she needs at that stage. So although she doesn't have documentation now, she will have it before she enters the US. Should I answer yes in anticipation of this, or no and explain what I just explained above?

Also, my mum was just about to send me her police certificate for the supporting documents package, however she said that she read somewhere that she will need it when she goes to her medical. Is this true? And in this case should we have ordered two?

Thanks in advance for your help! :goofy:

  3. Hi all,

I am a US citizen and I filed an i-130 for my mother in May. Didn't hear much until just now when I received something saying that her case had been moved from the National Benefits Center to my local USCIS, which for me is California. Is this typical for it to be moved in the middle of processing? Does this mean my timeline starts all over again from the beginning (it's already been 6 months in the initial review period and the estimate for CA USCIS is 7 months)? Was there some kind of mistake?

Any insight much appreciated - thanks!

  4. Hi all,

Yesterday I submitted an i-130 for my mum who is hoping to join me out here from the UK. I had already booked her on a flight to come out here for a week on May 17th to scope out the job market and until now I completely wasn't thinking that this could potentially cause problems with immigration. Stupid I know :(... I would be really grateful if anyone could give me advice as to whether I should cancel the flight or not. I don't want to hold up the processing at all so this is what I would do if there's going to be a problem.

    Thanks!

  5. Hey everyone,

I've been preparing my i-130 application to bring my mum to the states and it seems that the only supporting document I need to include is my birth certificate. Is that really all they require? I was thinking they would at least want to see documents that prove I earn enough to be able to support her out here... or will that come at a later stage of the process?

    Thanks!

  6. Hi All,

I have my citizenship oath ceremony tomorrow and I've been reading that you should wait ~10 days before going to the SSA to re-register as a citizen as it takes that long for the USCIS to update the system. I was wondering, is there a similar recommended delay for filing an I-130 to bring a parent out? I'm planning on doing this for my mum, and have everything ready to go but I don't want to be too eager and end up waiting longer because my paperwork gets put in the wrong pile or something.

    Thanks!

  7. Hi All,

I will be taking my oath tomorrow at the LA Convention Centre (yes, i still refuse to write center) and I just wanted to say how glad I am to finally reach the end of this journey. It wouldn't have been possible without all the helpful advice I've received on here. With your help, we managed to file everything ourselves, saving thousands on needless attorney bills. Looking back I didn't think it was going to be possible and it felt like the end would never come but sure enough here I am picking out an outfit to wear to my naturalization ceremony.

Thanks guys and good luck to you!!

  8. huh ? Are you chasing a visa or an adjustment of status thingie ?

Both lead to a greencard, but AOS not have NVC processing or a consular interview.

What are your plans, really ?

I'm already out here and just got my citizenship. I'd like to bring my mum out from the UK, but I'm wondering if I have to stay in america throughout the whole process or if i can leave while it's still going on...

  9. You are free to move about the world.

This is what will happen sometime in about 2 to 4 weeks your petition should arrive at NVC and in about 2 weeks from there a case# assigned (they have been real slow lately). Most are told to call after NOA2 approval in a week and keep calling every few days to get case#.

Here is the NVC filers thread read Post #1 and Post #2 to prepare your self. And congratulations on the Citizenship.

    Thanks!

  10. I believe you have a year to complete the NVC portion before they permanently close the case.

Long as you make contact with NVC within a year of your petition gets there. And you still have 6 months after Visa interview approval to arrive in US. So you can stretch this out a while.

Oh that's great, thanks! This is slightly off-topic, but do either of you know whether I would need to remain resident in the US during the NVC phase? I know I need to be here during the I-130 part. Thanks again...

  11. Hi all,

Thanks in no small part to this forum, I am finally in the home stretch of my dealings with USCIS.... I recently received a letter notifying me of my citizenship interview (March 19th in Los Angeles), and I saw no mention of bringing my spouse with me to the interview. Is this correct? Do I just bring myself then? There was something about bringing his birth certificate and proof of our relationship etc. so it strikes me as strange that they wouldn't want to check in to see that we're still legit :D

  12. Wow - thanks everyone! I'm in SoCal not sure if that counts as a "northerner" or not but yes to Brits all Americans are Yanks or "Bloody Yanks" to be more precise. :D

I shall calculate exactly 90 days before the day of my acceptance and then add a week to be safe. Haven't even started going through our dreaded evidence box yet so it's unlikely I'll even be ready to file any time before then. Yay! On my way to Yankdom

  13. Hi all,

    Silly question here....

I received my green card (based on marriage to a US citizen) on Feb 3, 2010 and have since applied and had my conditions removed. I read somewhere a while back that I would be eligible to apply for citizenship 3 months before the 3rd anniversary of receiving my green card, which would be Nov 3rd. However I can't find where I read this now and so I'm starting to wonder if I might be imagining things...?!

I also remember reading somewhere that it's not advisable to apply for citizenship right away - that you should give it at least a week before applying. But this doesn't really make sense to me as that would mean there is an element of subjectivity in the review process - the fact that they could reject you because you're too eager.... seems silly.

Anyway, would really appreciate if someone could help to clarify these two things for me - thanks!

  14. Hi all,

I am on track to get my US citizenship next year and once I do I would like to be able to file to bring my mum out from the UK (she wants in on the palm trees and nice weather!).

However, I'm concerned that we may not meet the 'domicile' criteria for doing this.... I have lived in the US for the last 6 years, and will continue to live here throughout the entire duration of the application process to bring her out, but once she's settled and working out here, I may return to the UK for an undetermined period of time. Will this negatively affect her green card status i.e. can it be taken away once she has it just because i'm no longer in the country?

Really appreciate any insight into this, thanks!

  15. Congrats on the approval.

So, you had you interview on the 3rd then received your e-mail on the 7th? I'm trying to get an idea of when I might receive my approval e-mail. I had my interview on the 4th and I am hoping/praying that I receive the approval e-mail soon. What time of the day did your e-mail come in? All my other NOA e-mails all seemed to apprear in my in-box at weird times, 8pm, 9pm and 11pm???

Problem is, I am set to leave the country next week, so I need the approval notice in order to make an infopass appointment to get my passport stamped with the I-551 stamp. I'm starting to freak out a little.

I received it yesterday (8th) at 14:46. Can't you just use your AP to leave and reenter?

  16. Hahaha Marie whenever I think back to your review and the women in the dress I can't help but wonder if they went to their interview straight from a night out, or were thinking it was a sure fire thing and were ready to hit the town straight after their interview!

And thats a great write up bestofboth and awesome news for you :)

lol! they probably had a bottle of champagne tucked away somewhere in anticipation
