  1. Kulayblue,

My mom received her visa in 4 business days (Saturday and Sunday not included) since the interview. She was interviewed on the 15th of July, and she received it 4 working days after, July 21. It also helps that I hounded Air21 with emails and they even referred my emails to the branch in the US embassy. Anything to speed things up for my mom. You can track the visa online, just go to AIR21.com and enter your tracking number on the space provided and hit the TRACK button.

You can also receive text messages for the update, just text AIR21TRACK space(tracking number) and send to 2948.

Hope this helps. Mom is coming next week! Got her ticket from Mango Tours, a little bit pricey due to the limited time but for those who wish to have a cheaper PAL ticket, just call or visit mango tours and if you hurry, you can get a PAL ticket from August 20 onwards one-way first time immigrant discount for only $675! I got mine for more than a thousand. Oh well!

  2. Kulayblue, congrats to you too! Mom passed her interview yesterday, July 15, (Praise be to our kind and very generous God) but was told she could not pick up her visa because she has no actual ticket that will show her travel on the 20th. If only I've known...oh well, all's well that ends well. I am still blessed to finally know that my mom will soon be here.

For all those who are yet to be interviewed, here are the 3 very simple questions asked of my mom:

    When is your birthday?

    Who is your petitioner?

    What does your petitioner do?

At Air21, she was also told that her visa will be delivered in 7-10 working days as she lives in the province. I am not sure though whether this means 7-10 working days from the day she had the interview or from the time Air21 actually receives the visa from the embassy for delivery. Kulayblue, I would really appreciate it very much if you could post here as soon as your parents received their visas. Thanks a million!

  3. Hi, Treyu-

Congratulations in Advance... I don't think she'll be able to pick up

her visa at the embassy. I've read on some threads that they were able

to do that but it is up to the CO's discretion. On my mom's experienced,

She asked the CO if she may pick up her visa but He said NO and that they

don't allow pick up not unless it is emergency travel. If your Mom's

address is in Metro Manila, She should have her visa delivered within 2

days. Also, She needs to call the CFO for appointment because they do not

allow walk ins anymore. My Mom didn't know it but they accomodate her

because she let them see her ticket that she is leaving to San Francisco

    that same day.

    Hope this helps!

    Joanne

Thanks, Joanne! You were right. The CO did not allow her to pick up her visa absent the actual plane ticket. She lives in the province so Air21 said it would take 7-10 days to deliver her passport with the visa. What a real bummer! We thought she could be here next week and were ready to buy her visa as soon as we knew this morning. Now, I don;t know if I can chance buying her ticket for the end of July. Anyway, I am happy that she passed the interview and she was asked only three questions: What is your birthday? Who is your petitioner? What does your petitioner do?

She is 65 years old and is exempt from the CFO seminar but she has to have her visa stamped, I think so I will advise her to call the CFO if she needs an appointment to do that.

Our visa journey is almost over. Thanks to you and to all others for your support!

  4. Hi All! I just want to update everyone on my mom's case. As you can see from my timeline, she already has her interview schedule this coming July 15, 2010! A loooooooong wait but all worth it in the end.

I have a question for those who have made it before me, how soon can my mom receive her visa if she requests to pick it up from the embassy? I need to confirm her ticket.

    Thanks, everyone!

  5. AB, mom just texted me early this morning. She is set for interview on July 15, 2010. She went back to St. Luke on July 12 to get her vaccinations and interview schedule. Based on mom's timeline, St. Luke scheduled her interview 3 days after her vaccination. Hope this helps.

I wonder how many days it will take for my mom to receive her visa if she requests the CO to pick it up at the embassy? I need to confirm my reservation for her ticket. If anyone has any idea, I will really appreciate it.

Thanks to all VJ'ers for bering with me on this journey and for giving me valuable guides and most importantly, moral support.

Good luck to all who are still in the process. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. Prayers will be our wings to get us through the very end, and beyond!

  6. I agree with aleful. If you are a US citizen and you petitioned for your mom, your mom is considered an Immediate Relative (no long waiting period) and as an Immediate Relative, she is not allowed to have derivative beneficiaries (children or spouse) to accompany her, even if your little sister was named in the petition. Compare this to a green card holder parent petitioning for an unmarried son/daughter (F2B) who has kids (who are the USC petitioner's grandkids). The GC daughter/son can bring the kids. Another scenario would be a US citizen petitioning for a married son/daughter over 21. The married child is not classified as an Immediate Relative ( belongs instead in F3 Preference Category) and can bring his/her own kids with her/him.

Those who are classified as Immediate Relatives cannot bring kids with them. Immediate Relatives are:

    Parents of US citizens

Unmarried Children under 21 years old of US citizens

    Spouses of US citizens

The advantage of being an Immediate Relative is that you don't have to wait too long for a visa to become available. You can immigrate to the US in less than a year in most cases. The disadvantage is that if you are an Immediate Relative, you can only immigrate alone and cannot bring your kids with you. You have to wait to receive your greencard to start the process of petitioning for your kids yourself when you are already in the US.

  7. Thank you, WWorld808!

For those who are still waiting for their sputum culture result, or those who are just about to take the dreaded sputum test, as Kulayblue termed it, I believe that what the others who have undergone the same test as my mom said: If you are contacted by St. Luke's before the date the clinic told you to call, then most likely your culture result is positive. It is better if you come out positive that you know far ahead than the end of the 8 moth period and begin medication right away. There are those who have to wait the whole 8 weeks only to be told at the end that their result came out positive and that they have to start medication after two months of waiting!

For Kulayblue and Andresbonifacio, if your mom has not received a call yet, more likely than not, it is good news! Hope to hear from both of you soon!

Good luck to all who are waiting for the result! My prayers are with you. Take heart in the CDC data, an overwhelming majority of those who were required by St. Luke's clinic to undergo the sputum test and culture came out negative.

  8. My mom is supposed to call on July 5th, and she did, but guess what? No results yet. She called on the 6th and on the 7th, but still no result. She went to St. Luke's on the 7th and asked why her result is not in yet and she was told that they do not know. Hah! They took her culture and they do not know? She was told to call back again today and I am praying hard everything will be alright. I don't want her to go through the 6-month nightmare in Manila.

  9. the best thing your mom can do is go to her medical exam at St.Luke's as soon as you get her MNL case number so that there's more than enough time for the 2 month sputum culture (just in case they find some scar on her x-ray too) before her scheduled interview at the embassy.

now my mom's interview will be moved to end of July instead of June 16. mad.gif

AB, your baby is so cute! I am with you on this. I just wished that I have known this before so I could have advised mom to go to her medical as soon as we received the case number way back in March. She would have been here by now. No use crying over spilled milk, anyhow, but just can't help wishing anyway.

I have some friends who went to St. Luke's yesterday with just their case number and approval notice, but guess what, the guard asked for an interview letter from them and did not let them in until they talked to their lawyer in the US and the lawyer told them to insist on being admitted because they already have a case number. After a few minutes, they were admitted but not before they have been told to stand aside and were subjected to embarrassment! What's up with St. Luke? Why do they accept some, and reject others? I guess it depends on the guard on duty. So now if you want to have an advance medical with just your mnl number and approval notice, you are at the mercy of the guard on duty, whether he will let you in or not.

    This sure sucks!

  10. Treyu, let's pray for the best! My mom told me that she was talking to someone there and that the person's 3-day sputum test was negative but after two months, the culture came back positive so she had another 6 month delay for the treatment. I really hope that our moms won't have to go through that.

Kulayblue, I doubt it very much. Both our moms do not have spots or scars on their xrays, right? what they have are just a little blurring on the results. Do people have blurred lungs, really? Why don't they just repeat the xray if it is blurred? Blurring is not caused by tb virus, or is it? Frankly speaking, I am just angry right now. They destroyed the reunion I had been planning. My mom said it was not the right time and that it is ok to wait. I am with her on that, but the fact that they suspected her of tb based on a blurred xray still leaves me fuming.

  11. My mom has the same experience and it is really very devastating for her and for all of us who have been waiting for so long to see her here in the US! I just wish that the sputum tests come out negative and that she does not have to wait for the culture test anymore so she can go to her interview on the 13th without being delayed. I guess this post is like my prayer. I am praying really hard for her to get through this the quickest possible way. Kulayblue, she is also scheduled to do the three day sputum tests on May 4,5, and 6. They will know whether she gets a negative or positive sputum test on the third day, May 6. I just hope there is another way out of the 2-month long delay.

Wishing both our moms the best, negative sputum tests, and no two-month long delay for the sputum culture. It would be a nice Mother's Day gift for both of them.

  12. Thanks TREYU,

i am only waiting for the interview letter,OP said that this week it is the appt for next month,I hope that we will make it for next month, parents interview looks pretty easy and fast, good ,my MOM ,will be really nervous,,, any other coment about interview,I am here ????????

    Yury,

I really thought you already got your interview date on May 13! See the entry in the chart I posted above. Please correct and update.

Yours will probably be on the third week of May. Call NVC and speak to the operator to find out.

  13. For AndresBonifacio's benefit, I am updating our chart and have inputted the interview dates of those I know here. If I omitted to update someone's timeline, I apologize, but please update so other VJ'ers can compare.

  14. Hi AndresBonifacio! AB is actually my favorite hero, more than Jp.

To answer your question, yes I used a representative (Immigration Counselor) as I work in an office where there is an Immigration Department. However, if you see the charts, my having a representative does not impact on the speed with which the NVC processed my mom's papers. The only thing that saved me time was that I did not have to fill our the Choice of Agent (DS3032, I believe) and I paid the Fee Bills at one time and sent in my Affidavit of Support with all IV documents together, instead of doing it one after the other. The down side of having a representative, however, is that I was at the mercy of the rep to tell me that she received the Fee Bills from NVC so I could pay it. I wasted a week before I knew that Fee Bills were already available because my rep and good friend was on vacation. She received the Fee Bills on 2/23 but I was only able to know about it and pay it online on 3/01.

Hang in there. Just follow the steps posted by VJ'ers carefully and you'll get the interview letter soon. Good luck!

  15. I've been trying to scour for interview questions for parents at the embassy/consulate abroad. Raj, I could not find your post about the questions asked of your parents during their interview. Will really appreciate it if you post the questions right here as my mom is getting quite apprehensive about the questions she will be asked during the interview. So far, I found the following questions from previous posters regarding their parents' interview:

    QUESTIONS :

    1. IF petitioner has KIDS?

    2. IF petitioner WAS THE NUMBER 1OR 2 OR 3 OR 4 CHILD IN THe FAMILY?

    3. WHAT'S petitioner's JOB HERE IN THE STATES?

    4. WHAT'S petitioner's HUSBAND'S JOB HERE IN THE STATES?

    5. MY MOM'S PREVIOUS JOB BACK HOME BEFORE SHE RETIRED?

    "Who's petitioning you?"

"How did your petitioner get to the U.S?"

"In what year was your petitioner born?"

    "Does your petitioner work?"

"What does your petitioner's husband do?"

"How many children do you have?"

"Which one of your children live in the U.S?"

"Have you ever applied for a visa to the U.S?"

"Have you ever been in another country?"

<br style=""> "When was your petitioner born?"

    "Does your petitioner work?"

"What does your petitioner's husband do?"

"How many children do you have?"

"Which one of your children live in the U.S?"

"Did you get married in 2006?"<br style=""> <br style=""> <br style="">What does your petitioner do for work?"

"How old was your petitioner when you and your wife married?"

1 - Had parent ever lived outside of England?

We would really appreciate more interview questions from recent interviewees. I will post my mom's questions as soon as she is done on the 13th of May.

Good luck to all our parents!

  16. I could not wait for the email re interview schedule so I called NVC and was rewarded for my initiative!

Interview date for my mom is set on the 13th of May! NVC operator said they just scheduled that today and they haven't gotten around to sending the email yet.

I am dancing my happy dance!:yes::D

Good luck to everyone else! I need to inform mom right away...

  17. Bunnyta, to make this Affidavit of Support thing more understandable, you can answer the following questions:

    1. Are you the petitioner?

    2. Are you sponsoring only 1 person/beneficiary?

    3. As a petitioner, is your income enough to sponsor the beneficiary without help from anybody?

    - If your answer to questions 1, 2 and 3 are all yes, then you should fill out I-864EZ (as in "easy" because this form is shorter and much simpler than the regular I-864).

    - If your answer to any of the above questions is "no", then as petitioner, you should fill out the regular I-864.

WHEN THERE IS MORE THAN ONE BENEFICIARY

    4. Even if you are the petitioner and your income is enough to sponsor the beneficiaries, but there are more than one beneficiaries you are sponsoring, then you cannot fill out I-864EZ because that form is only used when there is one beneficiary. Petitioner should fill out the regular I-864.

WHEN PETITIONER'S INCOME IS NOT ENOUGH TO SPONSOR BENEFICIARY/IES AND NEEDS HELP FROM OTHER PERSONS:

    5. If you are not the petitioner but a household member (living in the same house as the petitioner), then you should fill out I-864A. Please note that the petitioner should also fill out the regular I-864. The beneficiary will then have two sponsors: the household member who will fill out the I-864A, and the petitioner who needs to fill out the regular I-864 (even when there is very little or no income at all).

    5. If you are not the petitioner and not somebody who lives with the petitioner but your income is needed to sponsor the beneficiary/ies because the income of the petitioner is not enough, then you should fill out the regular I-864 form. Anybody who is a citizen or a green card holder can be used as a joint or co-sponsor when the petitioner's income is not sufficient to sponsor the beneficiary/ies.

Other VJ'ers, please feel free to add or critique on this.

I hope this helps, Bunnyta. It took me a while to figure all these out myself.

  18. Hello,

Can somebody please tell me the difference between filing an I-864 or and I-864A or and I-864EZ?

I am sponsoring both of my parents, I am married, we have 1 daughter and we do our taxes together. I am totally confused and the USCIS website doesnt give you the difference for each of them.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

    Thank you so much!

    Bunnyta

Based on my research, I-864EZ is for the petitioner to fill out when his income is sufficient to sponsor the beneficiary. There must be only one beneficiary to sponsor in order for the petitioner to use the I-864EZ.

As for the I-864A, that is for the household member whose income the petitioner will be using to sponsor the beneficiary/ies. In this case, the petitioner himself also has to execute on his own an I-864. Remember, even if the petitioner has no income, he still has to execute an I-864.

The I-864 is for the joint or co-sponsor who is not a household member. As I have mentioned, the petitioner also has to execute an I-864 when the I-864 EZ does not apply to him (like when his income is not enough and the petitioner needs somebody else to be co-sponsor, either a household member [i-864A] or somebody else not living in the same house [i-864 also]).

Did I make this clear or even more confusing? no0pb.gif

  19. Treyu,

I just called NVC today and they said that interview dates should be out no later than Friday (April 16th). If in any case you didn't hear from NVC by mail or email give them a call on

    Monday (April 19th).

I am eager to know the interview date too so my mom can arrange her stay in

    Manila.

Good Luck to us. Hopefully, we'll received an email for the interview date yes.gif

    P.S.

NVC will schedule the interview... K-1 applicants

need to schedule their interview in the US Embassy

    in Manila

Thanks, Comembot, for the very useful info! Your username makes me smile everytime I see it! Cheers me up good!

Thank you to Raj, too, for answering my question.

Official May scheduling will take place during 12-16 April. good.gif

Thanks, Sachinky! All this waiting makes me hungry! I'll be weighing a ton before this is over and my mom may not recognize me at the airport! whistling.gif

  20. How do we schedule the appointment at the US embassy abroad? The NVC operators said they will schedule the interviews for May on the second week of April. Well, it's the second week already but I haven't received any email from them about the interview schedule. I just want to know beforehand as my mom has to prepare for her medical as well.

Anyone who has interview schedule already?

  21. I am hoping to receive an email about my mom's interview schedule as well. I called NVC today and the AVR said that mom's case was completed yesterday, March 25. Was screamingggggg when I heard it! Just got so excited! I am now hoping to get the interview schedule so I can tell my mom and she can prepare beforehand for the medical and the interview. We live far from the interview and medical sites so careful planning is needed weeks before the medical and the interview.

Sachinky, I have a question. Why was your mom's medical scheduled weeks before the actual interview on May 12 for your mom? Is this the same case for all applicants in the US consulate in India? Maybe it varies country to country because I think in the Philippines, applicants can just go to St. Luke's two weeks before the actual interview to have their medical done.

The advantage of having a medical scheduled weeks before the interview, however, is that you can be more certain that your medical result will be in before the interview and you don't have to stress yourself about it not being there at the time of your actual interview.

Congrats, Sachinky, and to all others who have been waiting like me for NVC to complete their case. It sure helps to know that there are other people on the same boat, and it is so reassuring to know that I am not alone.

  22. Should be soon because mine has already been completed on 03/13. I'm now a waiting for the interview e-mail but I'll probably have to reschedule since my parents are here on a valid tourist visa. Unless they can do the interview here? Do you know?

You should send an email to NVC regarding this matter, informing them of your parents' intention to adjust status in the US. I believe that as long as the packet has not yet been sent to the US Embassy abroad, your parents can adjust status here. You have to inform NVC so they will not send the packet abroad but to the local service center where your parents reside now (presumably your address). I believe they can also do their medical here but I heard that the total medical expenses is $450, while it is only $213 abroad. Bottom line, adjustment of status from tourist to green card holder is possible. Just inform NVC. I thought about having my mom do this before since she has a visitor's visa valid until next year. However, she has not resigned from her job yet and timing is everything.

Good luck to you and your parents!
