  1. Hello Everyone,

I have a friend who is in need of guidance. please help!

His mom invited her God daughter for the holidays, the girl got the visa for 3 months but was extended to 6 months upon entry to the US. Now my friend and this girl (God sister) are going out and are now want to get married. but his mom is afraid that she might get in trouble if the girl doesn't got back since she is the one who invited to God-daughter. she is afraid that she might not be able to invite anyone else. so I guess our question is does anyone know weather they can actually get married and if they do, will it affect the mom?

P.S. My friend already filled for Fiance Visa for his Ex-fiance last year but did not complete the process because the fiance wasn't serious. so he withdrew the application. will this be a problem?

Please give us any advise/information anything helpful

    Thank you all in advance

  2. If you haven't done so already ask your apartment manager or leasing staff if it is possible that your rent can be exempt from the $75/month increase. I would make this request in writing and state the reasons why you are requesting the exemption ( added expenses of 6 month old baby, etc.) as well any relevant information about your family as tenants (rent always paid on time? Do you contribute in anyway to the apartment community? etc.) It should take you less than 10 minutes to write the letter and if they say yes, it will save you a lot of time and stress finding a new place to live.

2 years ago, I asked for a $100 reduction in rent and my apartment manager was happy to give it us. We're still paying the lower rent. You never know unless you ask!

    Thanks Reeses16.

yes we've paid our rent on time every month since we've been here. I'm writing the letter now, and hopefully they'll accept it. cause I really don't want to move with a 6 month old baby.

    thanks

  3. Qualifying for section 8 housing assistance generally requires you have income that is less than 50% of the median income for the area where you want to live. Income that might provide a very comfortable living in one part of the country might not be sufficient for even a modest apartment in others. Section 8 housing assistance is not reserved for the desperately poor, but for people who are relatively poor compared to their neighbors. A person who might be considered reasonably well paid in rural Ohio might be comparatively poor if they had the same income living in San Francisco.

It IS true that many landlords refuse to rent to people who require section 8 assistance, but this is not necessarily a negative reflection on the people who use the assistance. It's more because the law makes it difficult to evict someone who is receiving section 8 assistance, and equally difficult to raise their rent because of the FMR cap.

    Thanks for the info Jim

  4. My sister is in section 8 housing. She's single with my a dependent her son she qualifies due to low income level. It's usually availing for single parents with low income and people with disabilties. This is just what I have seen and heard from my sister. Though it is getting tougher to qualify with the last few years of recession. Do you have children? If you have low enough household income you may still qualify . But it can greatly vary from state. I would check this out with local county offices to be sure.

yes we have a 6 months old baby and rent is going up 75$ more wich is kind od a lot for us now with an income of about 1600 a month. i just wondered if i'll qualy with my husband's status.

  5. Did he get his green card yet? If so, please update your timeline.

You can probably qualify for section 8 housing, depending on the rules of your local housing authority. They will likely consider any income your husband receives in determining the household income, but they will NOT consider him when determining the household size. Section 8 housing benefits are considered a means tested benefit under federal law, and your husband should not be collecting any means tested benefits as long as your affidavit of support is enforceable. You, as a US citizen, can collect these benefits - your husband cannot.

yes he got his green card. I forgot to update it, but i will now. thanks

  6. Hey all

I got my green card today. We weren't called for interview which is totally amazing. Dunno why it was so quick and easy but the process was a cinch. 11 months to the day from when we first submitted the K1 application. And 4 months almost to the day from when we got married.

Best of luck to everybody. Double check your forms Stay positive!!!!!!

    Terry and Kate

    congrats!!!

how long did you wait after your case was transfered? ours got transfered last month, but still nothing yet.

  7. Bonjour Licia

First, I am no computer expert but I can tell you that we never sent any photos with our AOS and had no problems. They are of very little use for the AOS process, in fact, none I can think of. (which is why I didn't send any) There really should be nothing in the computer you need for AOS. You need your certified marriage certificate, and some evidence you are livig as husband and wife...joint home, cars, lease, bank accounts, insurance etc.

That said, I am sure you want to keep your wedding photos and maybe one of our good members that knows about computers will be along soon and tell you, but do not worry about your AOS

    Bonne Chance!

    Gary

    Salut Gary, cmt allez vs?

It is such a relief knowing that i dont need pics for the interview. But like u said, I still need my pics.

    Merci beaucoup

i don't know where to move it to.

  8. Hi everyone,

I just got married with husband and getting to collect all evidence of marriage. We have all our wedding pictures on the computer, but now the computer gives us a dark screen when we turn it on. when we unplug it, it's normal for like a mn then goes dark. when it's plugged, it wont even clear up for a sec. we've bought new baterry, but still the same.

Does anyone knows what is causing this? please help :crying:

    thanks in advance

  9. when i got my RFE the letter say that my EAD well be on hold until i send in my RFE an i didnt get a RFE FOR MY EAD i got it for my i-485.. YOUR EAD benefit from your i-485 froms so if that stop processing then that mean ur EAD is going to stop too.. if that get denial that mean ur EAD is going to get denial too.. so just make sure you read the RFE very good an make sure you send every single thing they ask for. if they ask you to send ur house put ur house in the mail an send it...

GC2010, Same thin hapened to my husband's case. we forgot to send in my federal tax return form; and therefore got an RED on 7/23/10. the REF stated that EAD will be held untill they receive the information requested. we sent in the information a week later and ask our congress man to call on our behaf because my husband had a job offer and we were just waiting for the EAD for him to start working. as soon as USCIS received our RFE response and congress man called. our case started to got faster. the EAD got approved on 2 weeks later and we received it one the 10 days later, yesterday. and our I485 has been transfered to CSC.

So, PO, if you have the information they requested, just send it in, and your case will be back on track.

    Good luck

  10. Thank you very much Candn. so it did not change at all. I wonder then why they said i did not meet the poverty line for 2 people when i made 21000$

Do you have other dependents? $21000 covers yourself and fiance so I'm not sure why you'd be denied based on that.

No I don't have a dependent now. just me and my husband

  11. nope, I just went to the website and checked the I864P, and it's the same. did you meet the poverty line the previous years, 2007-2008?

tell us about your case and what you submitted.

No I did not meet the poverty line 2007-2008. but i did for last year. and i thought it's the last year that counts. I did submit my W2s 2009, plus the I485 and others. I did not send in the tax return though since i sent in the W2s.. i made around 21000 and the poverty line for 2 people is around 18200.

  12. I was advised by my lawyer to call my senators office regarding my case....just wondering if I do if it would delay further or help things move. We should not have to wait 5 weeks for the arrival of packet 4. We sent our petition April 3rd, 2008 and we just want to be together finally, and this waiting time is just ridiculous already!!!! It's been almost 8 months........my God......2 people that just want to be together....are made to suffer so long.....Just NOT FAIR!

I know I'm not the only one........in this situation......that's why I'm here on VJ!!! I just wish that I knew about this website a lot earlier than I did, because there has been soooooooooo many helpful people here!!!!

    Franksgirl,

Call DOS and ask them. I emailed the embassy at 2am here which was around 8am in paris, and then Called DOS today around 11am and they told me that our P4 was mailled out today, and that our interview is 12/9 at 1pm. maybe you should try that too. email then call DOS.

    Good Luck

  13. I hope that no one on here ever has to go through this kind of ordeal but here is what I did:

    1. Wrote the withdrawal letter as suggested by milimelo and got it notarized.

    2. Scanned the letter into a PDF file.

    3. Mailed the original notarized letter to US Embassy with tracking service for delivery.

    4. Sent the scanned PDF document via email to the US Embassy with the shipment tracking info. I had also requested them to send me a reply when they receive my email with attachment and they were nice enough to confirm the receipt.

The US Embassy accepted the scanned version of the letter and said they've added it to the file.

    Thanks everyone.

I'm really sorry for you ONN. I hope you find someone that you deserve, who will love, spoil, cherish, understand you, bring you joy and make you forget this nightmare.

  14. Hi Guys,

our case got approuved on th Sept 17th, NVC received it on the Sept 22, Sent it to embassy on Sept 23, and embassy received it on Sept 25th. up to this week we still hadn't goten the packet 3. we had tried everything to contact the embassy, but they don't reply email nor fax, no return calls and my fiance was now freaking out. we called DOS they said embassy hasn;t yet received our case. now how that be? i traced my packege sent the day it was sent to the embassy. but anyways, on tuesday oct 13, I email the embassy knowing very well that there would be no reply. but to our very surprise, we got a reply in less then an hour saying:

    Dear Mrs ******,

Thank you for the information which will be modified in our system in a moment. We have a huge backlog, hopefully your fiancé should receive his packet 3 by next week.

    Sincerely

    Immigrant Visa Section

    American Embassy, Paris France

And today saturday, my fiance received packet 333333333. yeahhhhhhhhhh :dance::dance: . he is very happy but upset that it is saturday, because he wanted to fille it and mail it out the sameday he received it. the funny part is that i called DOS yesterday on fryday, and they were still telling me that embassy still hasn't received package.

we are happy, very happy, hopefully packet 4 doesn't take long from monday.

    Good luck everyone

  15. Hello all, it's 3am and we've just arrived. I will elaborate when I wake up, but to make it short: Gary was right.

I am very glad you got home safely and she is here. So let us know the upshot after you have some sleep and I will contact this gentleman from USCIS and see what can be done to sort out the AOS stuff. Unless, she found her envelope in her suitcase?

    Welcome.

So what happened? You married her daughter and now you hooked up her Mom?

Gary, you are very helpful to everyone on this site. meme si tu connais pas la reponse, tu t'eforces a chercher pour aider les autres. merci beaucoup.
