Look at it this way.. Its backwards on the passport... If you are required to have first and middle then you will write Heo-Map Thi
That's what I'd like to do but it says "As in Passport"...I guess I'm just too paranoid

Which one won't get me in trouble down the road??

Wait are you messing with us? Her first name is Heo Map? Was her parents mad at her for some reason when they were naming her? Why would someone name their kid "fat pig"? I never heard of someone named that before...
Relax...nobody names nobody "fat pig"..I only used that as an example! haha..

Her name on Vietnamese Passport is TRAN THI HEO MAP
My aunt (a Social Worker) said to write as HEOMAP THI TRAN or HEO-MAP THI TRAN (First, Middle,Last) and I'll opt to use HEO-MAP THI TRAN on the Pentition. I've been looking at all the forms up until Interview step and filling them out "mentally"..
My dilemma: on DS-156 they ask for " 7. First and Middle Names (as in Passport) " I want to be consistent thru out all the paperworks but it did say "As in Passport". No such thing as "too careful" when it's HCMC rite!!
Let me know what you guys have done on yours and if there were any complications...Thanks!
I hope this post will help future HCMC VJs when they do a search on "Vietnamese name"..I'm sure someone else will be confused as I am

How you met should be a fairly simple statement. (met on a bus in March 200x, met online, introduced by friends, classmates in school, work for the same company, etc. )
Timelines seem to be expected at HCMC these days. Give details of all the pertinent events in your relationship and especially time spent together.
Is a the timeline a seprate document? or would that be the letter?

Describing how you met is one ONE of the points that should be covered in your timeline. You don't need two separate letters. Here are some of the points they generally ask you to cover. Bear in mind they want details - not just dates and places.
1. How and when did you first meet?
2. How were you introduced? If you were introduced by a relative of hers then address this point thoroughly. You have to convince them that "Uncle Boom Boom" didn't set you up in order to get his "niece" a ticket to the US.
3. When did you begin corresponding?
4. When do you feel your relationship became serious?
5. When did you decide to propose? Under what circumstances? Did you propose in person, over the phone, internet? Did she accept immediately, or did she think about it?
6. If you didn't "officially" propose, when did you first start discussing marriage?
7. How many times have you been to Vietnam to visit your fiancee? How many times have you seen her total? How long was each visit? (details)
Put a statement at the end - "I swear under penalty of perjury that the foregoing is true and correct to the best of my knowledge, belief, and ability". Get your signature notarized.
JVP, Did you use "Form I-129F Supplement: Part B, Question 18, Explanation of meeting in person" as your Timeline when you turned in your I-129F? Or did you send it separately and specify on the Cover Sheet? Thanks!

Thank you everyone for reassuring what I thought about K1 for HCMC. Now I just have to convince my lady so she wouldn't be all sad and get her confidence back (..just blow lots of kisses and say "Everything's gonna be allrite!"
..if that doesn't work, then I'll be back here asking questions about K3/CR1 !

Hi everyone, I'm trying to leave this summer to visit my lady in HCMC and to have a "DAM HOI" party and plan to file for K1 when I get back to the States. After hours and hours of reading this wonderful website, I've come to a conclusion that K1 is not much different that K3 as far as the Consulate Interview is concerned. K1 seems like the best option for us because getting married right now will take lots of planning to do it right. My problem is that my lady talked to some of her friends (I don't think they know anything!!..hmm
) and they told her that Financee visa will be much harder to get approved NOW and that we should get married when I get back. I keep telling her that the paperwork and evidence we submit is more important. Also, K1 would work really well for me because K3 may require a different set of evidence.Please..please.. anyone has knowledge about Vietnam K1 and K3 let me know what her friends said is true for HCMC
. I pretty much have everything planned out for K1 process. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Sorry I couldn't make it short

I was gonna use that too (MAP for First name) but I wanted to keep the full first name of Heo-Map..By the way, good luck with your process..I'll follow closely since yours is a recent HCMC I129F..

Perhaps the person (you?) filled out DS156 didn't use Heo-Map? I think the Visa is based on that and then everything else in the States is based on the Visa. DS156 says "as in (Vietnamese) Passport" so maybe the problem starts there if we don't stick with Heo-Map...I'm gonna stick with Heo-Map all the way so I can keep her Viet first name ..
