  1. Hi everybody,

Just want to follow up the post that, last week I got the letter from USCIS. It's a NOA that says 'welcome to United State of America' :star:

and yesterday, only mail that we received in mail box was.....my green card

today, I am planing to go to social security office to get my name change and get the 'valid for work only with DHS authorization' out of my card.

Thank you for all your kind support.

    we did it!

    cheer!

  2. Hi guys

first of all, I want to THANK YOU (L) for this website and for all of you guys in here so much for all the information. We started with 'no clue' , Google-ing if we can find any information somewhere. We just don't want to spend $2,000 for the lawyer, and we truly believe that it is the way to do it ourselves. and 'yes' WE DID IT !!

back ground, I came here in US with J-1 visa in June 2007, met my husband and we start dating since October 07, My DS expired June 17, 09, we got married June 30  (in Hawaii  ) and file for AOS about mid-July after got the certificate. well, everything went well, smooth , no problem at all.

we had our interview yesterday in Detroit, at 1 PM. we got there about 10 minutes early. after put the letter at the window NO.8, wait for like 10 minutes. then the guy called my name. He is kind of old (maybe 60 ?) we followed him to his room. after we sat down he told us that our paper looks good and he going to approve :D so, he took my I-94. (funny that, I was worry I keep asking him twice "are you sure I don't need that?" He smiled and said "yes, you don't need it anymore". I was going to gave him my EAD, he said keep that just in case my employer want to see.

Then, he just ask what we have for him to put in the files today, we only had one folder (just original document stuff), 2 photo albums (wedding pictures and pictures of us since we dating) and copy of the package that we sent, that it. only new thing that we had for now is joint bank account. I gave that to him. (we a little worried before though, we didn't have a letter from my husband employer (said on the NOA). we didn't have that in the package either, we think that only taxes return and pay stubs should be enough. and it is enough. IO never ask anything about his job.

Then he swore us in, check some information in my I-485. and here what he asked,

    - How we met and when?

    - how many people in our house?

    - what He like to do and asked my husband the same what I like to do, he answered that I like cooking , so IO ask what we have for dinner yesterday?

    - Is my husband met my parent? and ask if I know his parent? I showed the IO our pictures that have me with his family, so he asked all the name of people in the picture.

then he looked at all those pictures, (seem like he just like to look at that , not really ask anymore questions)

then he tell us how the green card work, what is a condition green card, he gave us a paper with information about it. and said we should expect the card soon!

*** one thing I just noticed, he did not stamp my passport***

that it, we said thank you, he walked us out and we was smiling walking out, and we just said to each other that 'humm, that was easy' :luv:

oh.. and when we got home, I check on USCIS website, here what our status says "On October 8, 2009, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you." That's pretty good up to date, isn't it.

alright guys, I am normally not post much, (My English not that good so I am apologize if anything wrong :P ) we got so much help from the forums and website and that because we share an information. I hope that this post will have some little help for people that adjust status from J-1 like me, or going to have an interview in Detroit.

    Thank you (L)

  3. seem like you have more then us :D

we are going to have an interview on the 8th. not really have any joint lease or bill or letters like that.

we will have pictures, my id stuff, his id stuff, all those original document that we sent in. my hubby pay stuff (he don't want to ask for letter from his boss though)

oh, and card from family and friends.

well, seem like we have very similar time line.

keep us post ! how your interview going.

  4. "All documents establishing your elegibility for Lawful Permanent Resident status"

If you adjusting your status and getting a green card through marriage, then you should bring your marriage certificate and documents that proof you are married, live at the same place, have a life together.

It takes few months for couples to have joint accounts. But bring mail and other correspondences that you both receive under the same address, even if it is not joint.

Make sure BOTH of you know where it is in the pile you bring. I was the one who organized everything prior to the interview and we brought in a big plastic folder. But during the interview, the officer asked MY HUSBAND to get the documents. He had no idea where in the pile the docs were, and when I tried to get it the officer said " No, I asked your husband to take it".

We had so much stuff, magazines, copy of bank accounts (separate accounts that arrived in our address, showing we both live there), cards from friends and family mailed to both of us.

Whatever you bring, be aware they can keep one of them. So if there is any card you are particular touched by and want to keep, don't bring that to interview. Our interview officer picked a card I gave mu husband for his birthday to put in our " file" and one of our wedding pictures. THey particularly like (I found) pictures that have both of you with other people, like with family, friends, etc.

    Thanks! This really helpful.

  5. while I was doing my I-693, I told the civil surgeon that I have had chicken pox when I was a child (as my mom told me) but when my blood test came out, it shown that I have weak chickenpox anti-body (or something like that)

so, doctor told me that I need a vaccine (he will not sign for me yet)

I got vaccine at health department for $98 (only first shot), He signed for me after prove of vaccine

I sent out the package after that

I don't have my 2nd shot yet because it need to be 4-8 weeks apart.

I wonder that do I need to complete the vaccine before interview date?? it should be good since the civil surgeon already sign for me? just don't want to waste another $98 if I don't need to

    any thought?

  6. Here is what I know

I have a some kind of paper from governor of state (where we got marriage) issue for us (me) to send to Thai consulate about my name change. And will let Thai government know about our married also i guess.

I am not yet send that since my visa still good until 2011 so, I called Thailand consulate and ask about this. I don't want to go there and change the name on passport myself since now they required that you must go there in person (e-passport need biometrics)

They told me that, if the date on visa still good at least 6 months before a trip you can just use that one with a certified copy of your married license.

  7. I am agree with Anya. I was an au pair in US also.

au pair in US hold J-1 visa, to be an au pair in Us you need to have a program support you ( although, au pair in US is not just nanny/baby sister, kind of more like student exchange visitor)

some of mine apply for student visa (F-1 ?, I think) after done program, for that you need to have a document from school that you apply for, to shown at embassy that you be accepted to study and also while you here as student you need to keep collect credit in certain amount that visa required too.
