  1. Hey, I was unsure as where to post this but I have bit of an urgent question - I just received my permanent residence card with the two year conditional status after going down the whole K-1 route. I am traveling back to the UK to visit family for a week on 1st Dec and all of a sudden realized my passport (which is a UK passport as I can't get a US one until I become a Citizen) has my Maiden name on it, which is different to my married name on my permanent residence card. I'm worried about immigration on the way home, as long as I have my permanent residence card, my UK passport and my marriage license, is there anything else I might need incase of any problems?

  2. We are just filling out AOS forms and are confused about a few things.....

Originally during our NOA2 we had to fill out the 134 for all the money stuff to show I wouldn't become a public charge etc, now that we've been granted the fiance visa, I'm in the states and we are married, we're filling out our AOS and now have to fill out an 864. We originally sent in the past three years of HIS taxes (2006, 2007, 2008) in order to get this far; we're worried as we just filled out the 2009 and it's lower than the poverty guideline even though he's been running his own business because of tax deductions as well as alimony to his ex wife.

Should we send in all the same information we sent in LAST time with this new 864? Why the change from 134 to 864? If we send in the old documents with the 864, and they say they need more from this year, or that he needs a cosponser, will that mean I have to leave the country if this is taking place while my fiance visa expires (even though we are married)? Would we just have to refile, or get his parents to cosponser?

  4. Ok - I called and although it has been more than 5 working days they said they might be picking up the packed today and to check online after 3pm. Phew.

Hello! quick question - for those that already have their visa, can I ask how long it took to arrive in the post? It's been 5 working days and I've been trying to track my visa online but I just get an error message saying:

'Sorry, this combination of tracking number and postcode do not correspond with our records. Please check and try again.'

so now I'ma little worried. Should I be?

I emailed them but have not gotten a reply as of yet and when I called the automated options I get don't really correspond to my inquiry.....

Oh and CONGRATS! to those of you just approved! :)

  6. Wow, that all happened fast! I was stuck in there for FOUR HOURS! and my butt hurt like hell from sitting for so long! LOL

    :) yay for getting approved!

    Visa approved :)

    CR-1....viol8torUK.....................19th Jan 2010

we were outside the embassy at 7:10am for an 8am appointment, and there were people ahead of us in the queue already........ I was the first Immigrant visa number called.... the rest were all 'N' numbers. I handed all my documents over at the counter at 8:05am ..... was told to go and pay and then come back.... she then told me to sit down and wait to be called again..... so we sat down at around 8:15...... at around 9:20 we were called again..... had to swear an oath, answer some very simple questions about our relationship, how we met, when we got married, why we wanted to move to the US etc....... approx 9:30 the interview was finished and we were told I was approved..... and to go and pay for the courier.

so it was actually a very quick process compared to a lot of people on here..... but I suppose being the first 'I' visa of the day helped to speed things up ;)

Also, the person at the front of the queue outside the Embassy this morning was the guy who played Henry VIII in The Tudors - Jonathan Rhys Meyers, which certainly cheered up my wife during the cold dark wait outside... although she did say that he didn't look the same with his clothes on....... women do say the funniest things!!

Anyway - good luck to all those still in the process.... :) now to confirm my moving date with my employer!

  7. Her mom is waiting for her and I can't get through to *her* either.

I'm hoping it's a case of mom's phone is dead, Donna is still inside -- but it's starting to feel as contrived as a JLo romantic comedy. :/

Well apparently these movies are popular because they're true :P

We've been approved. I can't even explain how relieved I am. She thinks she saw 1/2 of TeamMoran but unsure.

I'm posting my facebook status as message cause I gotta destressify.. thank you *all* for all the help, great advice, and positive thoughts:

Anyway, she said they were very nice to her, really only cared about my taxes (sheesh thanks Rahmin, Michael and Jeff for doing the letters), asked her questions about me, about Maia, then basically said it's a go. Poor Linda (her mom for my friends) had to wait outside for 2 hours until she got out. Linda said she'd been in there for 4 hours total and she was worried they locked her up.
  8. Frosty - can I ask what was the issue? My one worry is that I (this time it's Garry) don't have enough to show as a freelance computer guy - even though I've got $60k documented for this year from various people. I actually asked my parents to be co sponsor but they didn't want to...

  9. Traveling to London tomorrow - interview 9am on wednesday morning :S i'm so nervous! and all the traveling sucks too :(

i read that you can't take in mobile phones, ipods, or large backpack type bags, etc - but there are lockers available? does anyone know how much money has to be coughed up for one???

  10. my fiance has filled out the I-134 and required documents, but i want to show my funds as i have sufficient funds to support myself also and i just figured this would help, so is there a specific form for this or should i just include bank statements, etc?

  11. Just wanted to add that if the embassy is worried about that 90 days she's here while she can't work -- well, as stated she's already been with me 270 days out of the past year and a half, and has already planned to come here for 90 days whether she gets the fiance visa or not - so it seems, logically, that it'd be 'fine' -- but government is rarely logical...

  12. I'm sort of worrying the same thing - this year has been a strange one on paper -- went back to consulting after getting laid off in March; have been making enough money for everything but won't really know until I file.

I've sent in my tax transcripts for the past 3 years which show I've been making 100k; however two of those are when I was still married (my ex didn't work) and the last shows my alimony as well, so it's more like 40k.

The ironic thing is that my fiance has been to see me 3x since last year, staying here 90 days each -- *and* unable to work. So if I've been able to support her *then* I certainly could once she was married and able to work as well.

The sad thing is I'm a computer geek, doing mostly remote work now as I've moved up to a more rural area to be near my daughter after the divorce, rather then being right outside of NYC which I was when married.

I asked my parents to co-sponsor but they pretty much refused because they didn't want an obligation to me.

I don't really have anyone else to ask that'd I'd impose upon. There's one more friend I might but would hate to do so - and he would do it because he went through something similar with his wife, and understands I wouldn't ever ask anything of him. But I hate to ask, but am still very very nervous...

  13. You can add us to the Jan 20th day with TeamMoran.

I'm still a bit nervous as to his financial status; he went back to computer consultant after the company he worked for downsized in March. He's been doing work for a few clients and billing intermittently; he's going to include his payment stubs as well as the past three years of taxes (all showing 100k) -- the trouble is two of those years show his ex-wife, though she didnt' work -- is that going to be a problem?

He had asked his parents to co-sponsor - but they actually denied to help him. They said they didn't want legal obligations.

  14. I lived in North Wales so got a Virgin Train booked early so was cheap. Return was hard to guess though. Stayed in a TraveLodge in Marylebone which was £29 for the night plus I paid £10 extra for late check out (2pm).

Try their website, google Travelodge, you can search by hotel location.

    Good Luck with it all

    Luke and Deanna

ok will do, thank you! :)

  15. Hey i'm not sure if i'm posting this in the right place, but anyway if anyone has any suggestions that would be great.

My interview date finally came and my appointment is at 9:00 which means i am going to have to stay in London over night as i live so far away, does anyone know of cheap places to stay near the embassy?

  16. "I'm a little concerned as our I-797 Letter of Action (receipt EAC-09-50333) says that the Approval Notice is valid from September 9, 2009 to December 9, 2009. Does this mean that both my medical and interview MUST take place before 12/9/2009? I've got my medical scheduled for December 15, 2009 and have not heard about my interview as yet. Does this mean that we won't be valid or have to start this process all over? Or as long as we've communicated to the embassy in time it's no longer an issue?"

The above was an e-mail I sent to the London Consular and my reply was this:

"If your fiance petition has expired by the time of your visa interview, your fiance will be required to provide a notarized statement, indicating his intention to marry you within 90 days of your arrival in the United States."

However I am still not clear - does this mean my fiance has to get a notarised statement to the London Embassy before the 5th December????

    I'm starting to panic! :S
