I'm not bragging here, but during our recent interview; my fiance was told by one of the gentleman at the consulate that our paperwork was more organized and cleaner than some he's seen submitted by lawyers. So ... study a little, save a lot.
-
We bought our ticket the day we got the interview date. We made it for 11 days after the interview. We both agreed that we were gambling with our money, and luckily that didn't bite us in the wallet. We know we went against every bit of common sense and recomendations. It worked for us, but I would never recommend that avenue to someone else. Our visa was also ready for pick up at FedEx the day after the interview. Which is also unheard of.
I'm hoping that you are taking a poll more than looking for advice. The smart choice is obvious. Anything else is a bit of a gamble.

US Embassy in KIEV
Kike,
This is a double post....I replied on the other post.....
Joe.
What he said.

Our interview was Wednesday (21 Nov) morning at 0930. A verbal approval and pink slip were given. Arrangements were made to pick up the visa at FedEx. They called today (22 Nov), saying it was available. We expected Monday (26 Nov) at the earliest. Apparently, we are an exception to the rule.
Cheers!

Here is a copy/paste from a recent post I made to a similar inquiry:
On 23 September we verified by phone from NVC that the case was sent to Kiev. We tried the call center (for appointment) on 30 Sept and the case was not in the system. We called on 5 October and were given an interview date of 21 October.
Hope that helps.
Cheers!

We're asking this question only because we have found ambiguous information. We know that you have to pay for the visa at ProCredit Bank. (Kiev Embassy for interview) On the embassy's website it says payment on the day of the interview. Here on VJ's embasssy info it says in advance. So, can my fiance purchase the voucher at ProCredit Bank a week before the interview; or does it have to be paid for on the day of the interview. This is all a matter of convenience. The appointment is at 0930. From what I understand that doesn't allow much time to get to the bank right as it opens, get the voucher and make it to the embassy by 0930.
Thanks again for clarifying things and helping a K-1 noob. Cheers!

Just curious, was that a date YOU picked for the interview?
My fiance made the call. She may have been considering that she needed the Med and Police Certs, so she may have made it later. She has those now, by the way. Also, another note here. After you purchase a PIN, be aware that the toll free number is likely not to accept the PIN. I was warned of this by the operator when I bought it. I tried it several times using the US toll free number. Of course I had to call the direct number (international rates) only to talk to the very same operator who sold me the PIN in the first place just 10 minutes prior. So, after my first experience my fiance called them, as the number was not so international for her.
We are all set and ready for our interview. Sadly, I am unable to attend. I just visited in early September and have no vacation days left.

I greatly appreciate your responses. Thank you all. We will feel at ease.
Kudos to VJ members, yet again.
Cheers!

We are trying to head off a possible hang up during our interview at the embassy in Kiev. My fiance's friend recently had problems getting a visitor's visa. Here is the scenario: The friend was born in Ukraine and their birth certificate said Soviet Union. They were told that the successor to the Soviet Union is Russia and therefore were considered a Russian citizen unless they obtained some processing of the birth certificate. This processing would then show 'official' birth country as Ukraine. The friend obtained some stamps on their birth certificate from the Russian Embassy to clear up this matter.
Has anyone encountered this during a K-1 visa interview or any other visa application process. We would prefer to iron out this possible wrinkle very soon as our interview is on 21 October. Thanks in advance.
Cheers!

We went through CSC. Check our timeline. It is recent, so it's "fresh." It seems fairly quick when compared to others here, though. Good luck to you.
Cheers!

Yep. Certificate is good for the entire country. 1-3 weeks for receipt, depends on the Oblast and how much you bribe them for fast service.
Somehow I find the concept of bribing an official in order to get a police certificate, considerable situational irony.

You called the embassy or you called the appointment "call center" (which is located in Poland) ?
I called the appointment call center, I believe. Which ever number is listed on the embassy web site. The PIN number, etc. I suppose if that's in Poland, please excuse my ignorance; I didn't know that. Should I be calling someone else. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction if I am barking up the wrong tree. 0442077071 is the number I called. The PIN would not work properly calling the toll free number.

Here's a tag along question, if I may. I called the embassy this morning and they don't have our KEV# number in the system yet. Let's assume that they only "check in" cases on Fridays, as I've seen posted here. Should I just keep calling every Monday morning to try to schedule the interview or is there some insider tip that could work in our favor. Just curious. We're on the five yard line and we want to stay as proactive as possible.

Thank you all very much. Very helpful as always. We're hoping for an interview date soon.
Cheers!

Greetings all.
We have all of our ducks in a row thus far. We are curious about where to obtain a police certificate and how long that may take to get. Can my fiance go to the closest major city to obtain the certificate or does she have to get one from each region she's lived in? For example, if she grew up in Sumy Region and has lived in Dnepropetrovsk Region.
Thanks for your help.
Cheers!

I called the NVC today. The case has been forwarded to Kiev as of yesterday!! Whoo-hoo!! That was fast!
Cheers, all!

Approved! On to the next pile of papers and the next government agency.
Got the mail today. The date on the letter is 9/16. The touches were 9/16 and 9/17. The USCIS site status still shows 'initial review.' Good luck to all who are still waiting. It does come to an eventual end.
Cheers!
-
We had back to back touches as well. Nothing since. We won't be really sure of anything until we get something in the mailbox. USCIS online status is mostly frustrating in our opinion and we've agreed to resist checking it all.
We still have hopes for being together in November. If we get our NOA2 this week, it could still happen ...
... so, we hope.
Never discouraged, just frustrated.

The same thing happened for us. Touch on 16th and again on 17th. No change in status or any indication of real information. Their site is now updated and has niftly little circles to look at. Again, if there is little accuracy or reliability, then no amount of little circles or even a progress bar would mean a thing. All it seems to amount to is more waiting. It's hard to see cases with NOA1 all around your date getting approved when yours is not. The short of it is that you are certainly not alone in waiting for the government.
-
It looks like there are a couple of us on the same "visiting" schedule. I'll be leaving to Ukraine on Thursday. Celebrating NOA2 together would be too cool for words.
Good luck and speedy papers to all.
Cheers!

This is so weird. Based on the deleting bookmarks voodoo, I completely uninstalled my browser. Strangely all my credit cards were paid off, my 401k doubled, it quit raining here AND still no NOA 2 yet.
Smooth and speedy to us all. Fun thread.
Cheers!

look at Meest.... several I know have used them... but I have not
I just checked their website. They have a chart and quick estimate function, so that gives some sort of number to get started with. Thanks.

I'm sure this has been asked and answered, but I'm having trouble locating some info. I'm looking for some advise on movers and the approximate costs of such. My fiance will be moving from Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine. If anyone has made this move and would care to point out which movers to quote or avoid, that would be most helpful. I've tried one of those multi-quote mover services and not one of them returned an email. The service emailed me a list of six companies that the quotes were submitted to, and not one has replied in over two weeks. Curious.
Thanks in advance.

Can you believe it?
I remember making a post when we first signed up here at VJ. Saying that we were hoping to be together in November and what an outside chance that was. Amazing, we're getting to have all of November together.
