  1. Yeah, I'd call it a southernly, rural small town thing. I went out for dinner a few nights ago with my husband and his parents and the waiter kept referring to me as 'miss'... it was the FIRST time EVER I kept thinking 'miss, I'm a Ma'am'!... I dunno what got into me. I usually miss 'miss'. :P lol

It isn't rural - unless you consider Orlando to be rural. :P

i am in Washington State outside of Tacoma...

and i am not bashing it...it is just something different I am not used to..after all..at 44 I am far past a MISS!!!

It is either Miss 'first name' or Mrs. 'last name'. Really nothing to do with marital state - I call my grandmother's 80 year old Sunday school teacher Miss.

I wonder if South Carolina is on the "edge" of the South.. I actually haven't heard "miss" around here, but have been called ma'am a lot of times, and mostly by friends of mine!

I'll have to see, since I'll be in SC in a week.

  2. The Canadian do not call list has quite the list of exemptions:

The Do Not Call List exempts Canadian registered charities, political parties, riding associations, candidates, and newspapers of general circulation for the purpose of soliciting subscriptions.[8] Telemarketing calls from organizations with whom residents have an existing business relationship are also exempt.[8] Telemarketers may also still call if a resident gave them permission in a written form or verbally.[8] This law also does not extend its protections to non-Canadian phone numbers.

  3. I do not have health insurance to provide to my husband at the moment - I am only working a temp job. The CO did ask if he would have health insurance when he arrived here and my husband answered honestly, that I have the paperwork to fill out, but have not yet done so (am getting my own plan through BCBS).

  4. My vent of the week: I think my cat is bulimic. She cries for her food, I put the food dish out, she gorges, 5 minutes later she barfs it up. Of course never on the wood floor or tile, always on a carpet!! I'm getting tired of cleaning up cat puke!! :help:

I would leave your cat food out, it sounds like your cat may be a grazer rather than a scheduled eater. She's gorging because she's too hungry. Cats are very picky about food and will throw up any time they eat too much/too fast.

  5. The first time I tried Canadian Miracle Whip I almost gagged and died. It tastes SOOOO different from the one I have in the States. Of course, Mathew almost passes out when he has American Miracle Whip, but still.

It just amazes me how things with the same name can taste different in other countries. And that restaurants that we have in both countries will not serve the same food.

Take KFC(PFK, whatever). In the states they have mashed potatoes. Here, they serve fries or something(at least if Mathew is right and not trying to shock me to death).

    I`m just like :wow:

I cried when I found out that KFC in Canada didn't have mashed potatoes. :(

  6. I actually got an FU letter the other day. It was actually quite amusing! It was very generic and then at the end it said that the person they hired has 15 years more experience then I do. Ok then! 15 years. Well good for you! Can't really argue with those numbers!

I got one the day after I sent in my resume to a job that I was qualified for and all she said was, "You were not selected." Uhm.. thanks?

so it is official.. the hubster got day shift!!

someone from HR called him this morning to ask if he wanted to accept the position and he said, "yes, of course!" ..lol

it still might be a few weeks before he starts though..

in other news I finally got an appointment with another surgeon but the soonest he can see me is April 6th.. the lady did ask me if I was in pain and I told the truth that I wasn't in pain.. I don't feel great but I am not in pain...

I am SO glad for you both, Marilyn! That is so exciting. :)

Will be interesting to hear your views on having a security system, feeling more secure or just hassled turning it off and on

The one that is installed here is Voxcom, although it isn't monitored now, it does have a time display and shows if a door or window is open :hehe:

We have a security system here - I do feel more secure because if the doors are opened, the alarm goes off immediately (on the proper setting) and the company tries to contact you through the alarm control box.

  7. I hope so...I'm pretty prepared, just no 2009 taxes. Wyatt, send me good vibes while I freeze outside tomorrow.

Bern, I KNOW you will do well. You are so prepared, with everything!

You know I am cheering for you.

  8. I think it is. I think it is helpful in order to understand. Understand that there is no need to carry the card around on a daily basis. Most people will never have to show it in their lifetime.

But in order to comply with USCI regulations, for those who prefer to have the card with them when leaving the house, there's a better place for it than the wallet, which is what pocket pickers are aiming at. I can think of quite a few places where I could have access to my card that would not be the target of thieves.

Yes, most people will never have to show it, but what happens if you ARE that person? Fines? Maybe being held? No thank you.
