  1. Hi everyone,

I (k1 visa) had GC interview at the end of May and received the approval notice a week after. And now I am waiting for the physical GC.

I read some posts saying it only takes a week or less to receive the GC after the approval notice. But I have been waiting for almost two weeks now. Is it because the new version of the green card takes longer to make?

And also, anybody knows how long would it take to make an i-551 stamp appointment? I need it to travel, not sure if I can make it in time...

    Thanks everyone!

    Hello!

I had my interview last week, thursday, 3rd exactly ... and I'm still waiting for my GC too. But during my interview, the lady asked me my advance parole, I gave it to her and she kept it. I told her that I'm going back to France this sunday (June, 13th) and she has stamped my passport with the I-551 stamp.

If I was you, I was asked about the stamp during the interview.

I don't know how long is it going to take if you make an appointment for the I-551 stamp ...

    Good luck!

  2. Hey guys!

    Hi Adam,

I have a question regarding the work permission.

I was reading a lot of different stuff in the forums about it.

I will be coming to the U.S. with a K1 visa.

Do I get a work permission directly at the boarder?

No you won't get a work permission at the boarder when you are going to come to the US

If not do I have to apply for an EAD card while I am sending in the papers for AOS?

Yes, you have to apply for an EAD card

How long does it will take until I get the EAD card and how long is it valid?

According differents timelines, it takes about 2 or 3 months

Does it mean that I can not work for the first few months while I am in the U.S.?

    Unfortunately, yes ...

    Thanks for the answers.

  3. It is complicated ...

I had my medical exam in november 2009 in France.

I applied for my AOS in february, 2010 and have sent the form I-693 in sealed envelope and sign for a civil surgeon, plus I have sent my vaccinations form.

I got an RFE one month ago and the RFE said I have to send my I-693 and vaccinations sheet ... so I have decided to get an appointment with my USCIS local and the lady told me to make a copies and sent them back, that's what I did ... now my case has transferred to the CSC.

    Good luck!

  4. Hey guys!

    I just got my K1 visa :-)

    CONGRATULATIONS :)

…I have some questions regarding the next step (adjustment of status)

    1) I am from Germany. Do I have to sign up for “ESTA” (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation) or is it just for people who are travelling without a visa?

NO YOU DO NOT NEED TO SIGN UP FOR ESTA, YOU JUST NEED YOUR VISA

    2) is the fee for the I-485 (adjustment of status application) $1010?

YES, I APPLIED FOR MY AOS ON FEBRUARY AND WE PAID $1.010,00 FOR FEES

    3) how much is the fee for a civil surgeon to certify my vaccination history?

IT DEPENDS ON A LOT OF THINGS ... WE PAID $35,00

    4) for the I-864 (sponsor document), do I have to provide the same documents as for the I-134 which I turned in on the interview day?

    YES

    5) by passing the boarder (port of entry) I will get a work permission for three months (EAD card). When do I have to extend this card (how long is the processing time)? For how long is the new card valid?

YOU WILL NOT GET WORK PERMISSION FOR THREE MONTHS WHEN YOU ARE PASSING THE BOARDER.

WHEN YOU ARE GOING TO APPLY FOR YOUR AOS ... ALSO, YOU COULD APPLY FOR THE EAD

6)After sending in the I-485 form, how long do I have to wait until I receive the green card?

WE HAVE SENT OUR AOS ON FEBRUARY, 22ND AND HAVE NOT GOTTEN ANYTHING YET ...

ACCORDING DIFFERENTS TIMELINES, IT IS GOING TO TAKE ABOUT 3 OR 4 MONTHS

7)After how many years can I apply for naturalisation?

I THINK IT IS 3 YEARS BUT NOT SURE ...

8)If I want to take some classes at a university, do I have to pay the local fee (which is way cheaper than the fee for exchange students) since I will have a green card?

I WANTED TO TAKE SOME CLASSES AT A UNIVERSITY TOO, ACCORDING TO THE UNIVERSITY WHERE I WANT TO GO, I HAVE TO PAY FEES FOR "FOREIGN STUDENTS" BECAUSE I DON'T GET MY GREEN CARD YET ... THE BEST IS TO WAIT FOR YOU GC

    Thanks for your help
