They "stamp" as common practice but she should make sure they do it
Thanks - yes my wife is smart and I have reiterated that she needs to check the stamp is there before walking away.

My wife will be entering the US for the first time with her IR-1 visa. I just wanted to ask what she needs to bring? We know she needs to obviously bring her Passport (with Visa) and the Sealed Envelope.
Additionally, she will be returning to UK after approximately a month, but she will turn again after a month or so permanently. Any advice on this? I have read that because she will most likely not have received her Green Card in that first month, she will just need to make sure she has her IR-1 visa stamped and that acts as a Green Card for the first year. Is this correct?

My wife had her interview today and was approved. I will make a write up soon with all the details. Thanks to everyone at VJ for helping out with all the questions we had!

I put my US address on the I-864. I will actually be living there though once my wife has her interview.
-
I have already completed our I-864 but I was giving it some thoughts since I have the chance to before my wives interview.
In 2006 I was a full-time student, had no income and no dependants (I did not file tax return)
In 2007 I was self employed and had tax return has gross income of about $15,000
In 2008 I was self employed and had tax return has gross income of about $30,000
For 2009 - I have been self employed and will have a gross income of about $30,000 again (no returns yet because it isn't time but I have invoices)
I am unsure if I really need to provide bank statements or anything. I have cash assets around $50k+ across several accounts between myself and my wife. But, as far as I understand, you don't need to provide these unless you have under the income required and need to make up the difference.
Also, for 2009 what should I provide with the I-864 to prove income? I have invoice statements that have been paid that I had planned to take. Additionally, I was thinking it would be a good idea to have a letter from one of my clients saying how much I make per hour, what I do and that the work will continue.
Additionally, I live with my parents, we will move out once my wife arrives here within a month or two.

We have now received our interview date. Please wish us luck

We are still waiting for our interview too. We sent our DS2001 back 21st October and have'nt heard anything since. I'll keep you posted if I hear anything.
Thanks, makes me feel a bit better. I am only a bit worried as I am actually moving back state side in a couple weeks. I would have like to have accompanied my wife for the interview but looks like that won't happen. I'll keep you updated on when/if I get my interview date too.

I am pretty sure it took us a few weeks to get a confirmation that they received the I-130 at London Embassy. After that, they requested more information. (Affidavits of a bonafide marriage)

I am curious how long it should take before we receive the interview.
We have filed DCF with London Embassy. Sent the DS-2001 checklist on Oct 20th and it was received. We did medical on Nov 2nd. Just waiting on receiving an interview date. We didn't receive any confirmation that they received DS-2001 other than Royal Mail tracking.

Although I didn't have the medical exam, my wife did and there is nothing to worry about. She didn't even have vaccination records but they take care of everything for you.

Nich-Nick,
Just to clarify, were you saying to have the bank letter and employment letter re-dated and send them again?
What he said is to not worry about it. His dates were about 4 months out of date and they accepted it. Update if you can, otherwise do not worry about it I would say.
Out of curiosity though, we are still waiting on our interview. You did medical in October and are still waiting on a date? What travel date did you specify? We did a couple months into 2010 so was thinking that we were less of a priority right now...

My wife had no vaccination records so she got the Tetanus and MMR shots at the Medical exam. They said she could have got them with her local GP but we just got them on the day and was no problem.
-
This is good info. I had not heard of this but my wife did her medical earlier this week. We had sent DS-2001 in a few weeks ago too.
-
My wife received a letter stating she was to go gather paperwork and ds2001. I wouldn't call that a packet, it's just a letter. What gives?
Yea I was always a bit confused by that too but London Embassy just sends a letter and you have to go find the correct forms on their website.

We have filed DCF with London Consulate. We sent our DS-2001 a couple weeks ago and just did my wives medical exam today. We haven't received an interview date as of yet, I'm not that concerned about it taking extra time but just interested in what we should expect.

Are you saying you worked while being a student and didnt' pay taxes or are you staying you were only a student and didn't pay taxes?
I didn't work during the year so didn't file tax return for 2006.
Thanks for the letter there RebeccaAndPhil

I have asked this several times but never had an answer and can't find the original thread. In 2006 I was a student so I did not final taxes - this is apparently in the tax law and I should cite it as the reason for not filing in 2006 but I did file in 2007 and 2008. In my cover letter I should make mention of this tax law, could someone show me the tax law so I can cite it?

My wife lived in Turkey for a while and needs a police certificate translated to english from Turkish. We have asked a company to translate and notarize here in UK and they want basically $400 for a 50 word document. Any other options, we are here in London, maybe the Turkish embassy ? Anyone have experience with this.

On the DS-2001, there is a field for the Date of Medical exam. Do we leave this blank as we can't have a medical exam until they have accepted that we have compiled all documents and assign an interview date?
-
I never did get an answer regarding what the tax code to site - I couldn't find it in the person aboves recent posts.

We have sent the DS-230 to the London Embassy. We obviously have tracking on the envelope so will know when it arrives, how will we know if the form has been accepted and the Embassy thinks it is correct?
-
(FYI this is DCF)
We are sending the DS-230 Part 1 & 2, have 2 passport size photographs also with it. We are sending this to the London Embassy as we are DCF. Does this need a return envelope inside?
-
The one page PDF available on the USCIS website is not correct. VJ is advising all members to continue to send in 4 pages.
London Embassy specifically said to send 1 so thats what we did but that was just for them I think.

Thanks, that was what we were planning to do Any ideas on the other part of the question?
Questions (We're moving, also never received SSN)
in Working & Traveling During US Immigration

Hi, couple questions. First of all, my wife never received a social security number. I had always read that was pretty common. What exactly do we need to do to get her one now that it has been about 3 months?
We are also moving, I remember reading that I needed to inform them when I would move (assume for both of us as well), what forms were those?
