  1. OP here. What you posted is exactly how I feel, I could say exactly all of that. Yeah we get by, but there are no extras, and no savings, no insurance, you get the picture. If one more person asks me if my husband found a job I want to punch them.

We do try hard not to take it out on each other but sometimes life gets the best of you. We work it out though. Sometimes you just need to vent it. It's very stressful, especially when others around you don't seem to be having any of the same problems.

I'm proud of us though for sticking it out, it will get better someday, and all this bullshiat just helps us to know how much we love each other. :)

    Right now though, it sucks!

I went for a interview the other day and don't have a good feeling about getting any work from that company. It's true that they don't want to check your uk experience, I think they see the words "UK" and run. Even when I gave them 4 US references for volunteering over here they don't seem to care in the slightest. I was so close to breaking down tonight, ate 3 cups of ice cream instead :-(.

I just need to post and vent really, I think my in laws think I am lazy and not applying for jobs, I apply 24/7 to every job including burger flipping. And denied for everything, my husband sees me applying for jobs and just seems to think everything is dandy....

One interview I had they didn't want my employment authorization, they wanted a green card. Even when I explained they didn't want to know.

    Okay mental breakdown over....

  2. Hi everyone! Just checking in too. I'm puting together all of the paperwork for AOS today. Uhh! I cant wait to be done with immigration.

My 1-94 expires on the 29th August but as we've had so much to pay out with the wedding and our dog Honey, we're thinking about applying a little after the expiry date instead. A few people on here have said thats fine, but has anyone else done this??

And also, I keep hearing about cases being transferred to California with no interview... Is this happening to alot of people?

Nickandkayte, I remember you before on the pet thread. Did you end up bringing your dog over to the US? I say because we've being doing a little research and have just found out a whole load of vaccines and precautions we now have to take for Honey. It never ends...

We were going to but decided its to hard to fly a Maltese over in the summer in Florida, and its so stupidly expensive for a 10lb dog he may just have to stay with my parents which is fine too :). What problems have you run in to?

Oh and the Greencard arrived yesterday! Woohoo! About time! Now on Monday I have to go get my driving permit, my FAFSA completed and go to a Navy Recruiter. :)

  3. Just for a review, I used Excess Baggage and their shipping contacts in the USA were horrible. I got a cheap rate, but my boxes arrived 2 months late and some of them hanging open after being COMPLETELY covered in black extra strength duct tape. My boxes were not stopped at Customs, I just think its from some really bad wear and tear on the boats.

So after getting about 4 different dates from them for when the boxes would be transported down, I wrote a long complaint to the UK and the whole thing eventually got sorted.

Here is a copy of my complaint if anyone wants more detail...

"I originally shipped my packages through your company and was dealing with Mr *****. However after emailing him on the 22nd of February, he has not emailed back. I sent my package at the end of November with your company, I was advised my package should be here by the end of January. I am getting really sick of dealing with the US shipping company, they don't seem to know what to do or give me a accurate date for when my baggage should be here.

I have been told "End of Jan" ,"Mid Feb" , "Late Feb", And now "Mid March" for when to expect my boxes. I am really thoroughly annoyed as I keep being told by them that I will be called in the "following week" and never seem to get that call.

I have had to make over 10 phone calls to them to find the whereabouts of my items. And now they have told me I will be given a call this week to organize a date where they will be dropping it off. I don't know if this is a company you deal with often but its starting to really get annoying to be told to wait for phone calls and have to chase them up when they don't follow through.

They also had my email address in wrong and were emailing *************@hotmail.com which is never a email address I have mentioned for my husband because it does not exist! And I am sure it wasn't written on any forms I gave in. My contact email is this one and my husbands is **************@yahoo.com

It has just got to the point where I am doing Make up for a wedding in 2 weeks and I need some of my items in the boxes and I doubt they will be here by the 18th of March.

Your company was very helpful and reliable and I just feel really let down by your partners in the USA.

If you could provide any insight as to what is going on I would be really grateful. I have included the email below with the info, and my new shipment reference with them is SG24093. I have attacked all the information below in hopes this will be resolved. I would love to ship with your company again but feel so upset that I cannot seem to access my items.

    "

While I think of it, in the UK the man came to pick up the boxes from my house, and was told there was only one box to pick up...Not 6. So I had to call Excess Baggage from work and ask what was going on and get them to sort it out. Eventually 2 days later all the boxes got picked up.

Another problem was when I got contacted when my items were in Customs for a packing list, which I had submitted at the start of the process and they apparently got "Confused" between my shipment and another. Slightly worrying.

  4. So let me double check,

    I am sending in:

My old passport, marriage cert, Two UK sized photos, cheque for $217? Correct?

    Then send it to:

The UK Passport Service for the Americas and Caribbean

    British Embassy

    19 Observatory Circle, NW

    Washington, DC 20008

    Yes? :)

Just want to make sure so I don't mess this up.

Oh and for my UK driving license change of name I need to include my marriage cert, Old license, new photos, counterpart license correct? (Sending it to my folks in the UK to mail it from the UK)

I am also getting my name changed by deed-poll (Is this necessary though? ) in the UK so I can get the deed poll sent to my folks house, they can put it in the envelope with my stuff and mail it to the DVLA. :)

    Any feedback would be appreciated!

  5. On topic, I joined a gym and did up to 5 exercise classes a day. :) And from this I am now becoming a certified fitness instructor and could never have done this without having all that down time to kill. It was really life-changing for me, and my body. Needless to say, I came to the USA in a better shape, and stronger than I have ever been before in my life.

I also made new friends, and it gave me something to do while the time difference was not in our favor. This was between August (Before my NOA2) and December.

So by the time I came over, I got my husband back in to working out, and one of our favorite times together is at the gym pushing each other to life more weight and run faster. Nothing beats working out together and staying healthy. :)

  6. Thanks! I'm proud to report that we received the emails/text message notifications today! Omg Rachel you look beautiful! You both look great! Wonderful pics, thanks for sharing!! I never thought about sharing our pics, I'll attach one of them. Just our legal ceremony--our big wedding is in November. :)

Yayy someone else doing the small legal ceremony and then the big wedding. Phew! :) We are looking to do a big ceremony in 2015 in Ireland with my family. :) We know weddings cost a lot so we have already started to save... And were also perfectionists and we want to make it amazing and perfect.

  7. In the same boat. Had no jobs, I seem to be the bottom on everyone's employment list even with loads of past retail experience in the UK. I think I list my UK references and they run and hide, and when I did put some US references on for babysitting for nieces and nephews they still didn't call. I am in the Treasure Coast in Fl, no jobs here at all. Just looking forward to heading back to Pre Med and getting my degree. My husband who is a veteran with 5 years of solid experience still cannot get a good government job in computing... So now hes working part time and hes doing his Bsc and Masters hopefully in the next 3 years while his college is covered by the GI bill.

It would be nice to have a job down here, I have a count of 200 jobs I have applied to, been interviewed for 3, one I got offered below minimum wage...Another I was told because I couldn't drive to work (It was a 10 min walk....) I couldn't have it. And the last one just never called back...*Sigh*.

When its my time for a job it will happen, for now I am just going to study and wait on my greencard. :) Stay positive people! Also if you haven't already try snagajob.com very good site.

  8. did you not get a temp ead card ? this is what he used - his temp one - what state are you in ?

You should be able to get your SS card with your marriage license and change your passport - then get a state id - wo the real green card - that is nuts they told you you could not

Spoke to the lady at my infopass appointment about it. She said because I filed in my married name (I thought you were meant to)... And the fact my SS, and EAD say my married name and not my maiden name means I have to wait for the green card. Hopefully it should be here in 30 days. Infopass was so pointless, why they couldn't tell me that over the phone I have no idea.

  9. Back from the Infopass appointment...What a wasted appointment. Spent 2 hours driving there, got told my case has been transferred from the CSC to West Palm on the 7th... The lady was really confused why they sent my K1 AOS case there in the first place, she said normally they go straight to West Palm?? So not much acheived. Hopefully I will hear something in 30 days...

    So...Another waiting game begins.

  10. you might try a state id - we went to get a fishing license and since he did not have a driver license yet they consider him still living in Romania and wanted like 80 dollars for salt water permit

so we realized he needed one - took about 10 mins - just take your ead card with you - this is all he needed - cost 16 usd

I have been told I cant get a state ID without a greencard.... :( Due to my main ID (Passport) and my SS being in different names. Even with my marriage cert they are telling me No and to wait for my green card then peruse it. .. :(
