Thank you Jamericanlove! We had the interview today and citizenship was approved! Here's a summary of how it went.

We left Eugene around 10:30 AM and arrived in Portland around 12:50 PM. The letter says not to arrive early because there is limited space in the waiting area so we timed it to arrive on time. Our appointment was at 12:55 PM on the second floor of the immigration office. We brought a bag of evidence encase they requested any original copies we submitted or proof of marriage since we applied on the three year marriage rule. We parked in the all day parking lot under the overpass next to the immigration office and paid the $7 parking fee encase we had a same day oath ceremony.

We then went into the immigration office and presented our letter for the citizenship interview to security and they checked us through. Then we went to the second floor. When you reach the lobby of the second floor there are bathrooms in front of you, CO offices to the right, and registration and the waiting area through the doors to the left. We went left to registration and checked in for our interview. Everyone has to wait in a line and check in at the 4th window. He showed his letter again and his green card. Then they took his finger prints and a picture of him. Then we were told to go sit in the waiting area and someone will come call him by name.

We waited an hour from our appointment time until our interview. The place was busy and packed. I was afraid we missed our appointment because we might not have heard them calling us but they were just an hour behind. During our wait at around 1:30 PM a lady came out to make an announcement to everyone. She said she wanted all the friends and family to wait in the waiting area for now and she only wanted the people with the oath ceremony letters to follow her downstairs. Then around half the room cleared out as people got up and followed her. There must have been close to 60 people taking the oath. We knew then that we weren't going to make the same day oath ceremony as we missed it starting and hadn't had our interview yet. A half hour later at around 2 PM they called our name for the interview. Then just right after that there came an announcement overhead for everyone else waiting in the waiting area that came with those who were having their oath ceremony today to please come downstairs and join them now. That's when the rest of the room cleared out till it was nearly empty. It must have been 100 people that went downstairs to join them with only four other people left in the waiting area.

The interview didn't last long. In and out in 15 minutes. The man only wanted to see the Driver's License, Green Card and Passport. Then he went down the paper asking questions and stopped when six questions were answered right. Then there was one written question. The only personal question asked was where was your wife born. The officer told him that we really didn't need to bring all that evidence with us and it was too much. Then he told us we're approved and asked if we'd like to come back for the oath ceremony tomorrow. The oath ceremony is held daily at 1:30 PM. He apologized because we missed it today and he knew we drove two hours already for the interview. We took the offer for the oath ceremony tomorrow. Then he printed off our oath ceremony letter.

Then we drove home since it was cheaper than staying in a hotel because our car is fuel efficient and we didn't have a change of clothes or anything with us to stay the night. We called work and cancelled our appointments for tomorrow to clear the schedule for the oath ceremony. So four hours on the road today and we get to do it again tomorrow. Then we'll be done!

Oath Ceremony is done my husband is now an American, 51 people from 31 countries.

My parents attended sadly his parents where not here to see it but we took lots of photos.

Hi guys!

Sorry for not updating before. I have been working crazy hours! Well, anyways. I received a letter last week with the appointment for my oath ceremony:

I'm scheduled for tomorrow, september the 27/2013 at 12:10 PM.

That means I have to leave my house at 9:00 AM, to deal with the crazy traffic in L.A.!!! haha!. Husband cannot come with me, so I hope someone in there can take a picture of this once in a lifetime experience!!!

Ok. I will let you know how did it go. If you have any advise, I am more than happy to take it!

Benny was one of 61 Hoosiers who became citizens today. It was a full house with standing room only for friends and family! I got pictures of everything but them saying the pledge of allegiance.

Congratulations!!!

I took my oath yesterday at Houston,Officialy I am U.S Citizen, filled the Voter Registeration Form right there at the ceremony, may Allah Bless every body.

I recieved my Interview letter yesterday on 9/25/13. It's scheduled on 28th October. Along with Interview letter they sent N-659 dodument checklist too. I recieved the yellow letter asking for state ID to bring on interview. Is it normal to get yellow letter and N-659 checklist or am I the only one who got it?? The check list is huge . Any advice and tips for interview will be so nice to get it.

I received a yellow letter as well. I spent one whole day getting all the documents. I came with a big pile of documents to the interview, and the officer just laughed at me. I was very concerned about demonstrating everything she asked me for during the interview, and she told me I do not have to give any document to demonstrate anything. Every office is different of course, but I am sure you will be fine. Just bring everything they are asking for. Good luck!!!

Thanks Kanga it has been quite tough waiting it out!! My husbands parents fly back in 2 weeks so I figure they will miss the ceremony as it says within 45 days. That is disappointing but we are just pleased the end of the journey is in sight!

Does anybody know if you can film the ceremony? Then we could send them the film?

At my ceremony in Portland, OR everybody was taking pictures and probably filming with their phones. It is very mellow, a big celebration. Congratulations!!!

Congratulations! I'm so happy to read your experience at the Portland office and that you had a same day oath ceremony. That's 5 people I know of in a row that happened with going through that office. Us next!

Do not worry! They are very nice! And be prepared for the Ceremony that same day! Tell your family and friends and bring a camera!

Hi!

I just came back from my interview and oath ceremony. It wen great! Just took like 5 min. Everybody here in Portlandia are so nice! The IO welcomed me with a big smile. She asked the usual questions about travel, and marriage. Just questions from the form. I told her I traveled to Mexico and that I had a speed ticket. She already knew about my trip and did not care about the ticket. She asked me to sign my pictures and at the end asked me the civics/history questions.

Who vetoes bills? The president

What is the Law of the Land? The Constitution

What is the Capital of my State? Salem

Who do we show loyalty to when we say the Pledge of Allegiance? The flag of the United States

Who did the US fight in World War II? Japan, Germany, and Italy

What is an amendment? An addition to the Constitution

For English test, she asked me to read: Where is the White House?

And write: The White House is in Washington, D.C.

I had my oath Ceremony that afternoon at 2 pm. There were 50 new citizens from 23 different countries. We registered to vote after the ceremony.

It went so fast I just cannot believe it is over!

I sent it more evidences, a whole whole bunch of them a couple of weeks ago and got a letter that my case was under review last week.

Finally, today, I got a text.....On September 19, 2013, we placed your application in the oath scheduling que. We will send a notice when the ceremony is scheduled. If you move prior to the scheduled ceremony, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

Please update. I attended the Oath Ceremony today and I am now a US Citizen. I received my Citizenship certificate and applied for expedite passport as im travelling overseas shortly. Please mark in red the end of this process. This is my Local office's processing timeline. I have no Idea how you can understand their time line. Can anyone explain?

Field Office Processing Dates for Salt Lake City UT as of: June 30, 2013 Form Form Name Processing Timeframe: I-485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status December 11, 2012 N-400 Application for Naturalization November 23, 2012 N-600 Application for Certification of Citizenship 5 Months

They can take up to five months to process your application. In other words, they can take up to five months to give you an interview appointment. I would still get an Infopass and ask, since your notice says 90 days. Good luck!

I am typing this as my Husbands interview experience this morning when he was APPROVED.

15 minute max interview, guy called me in asked for Government ID & Green Card was very nice guy very relaxed said right away lets get this test out of the way nobody likes them, asked 6 questions I got them all correct, read a sentence, write the following. Told me I had passed the test.

How long is a Senator voted in?

What is the name of the Ocean on the West Coast?

How many Justices are there in the Supreme Court?

If the president can not serve who would?

How may voting members are there in the House of Representative?

What did the Declaration of Independence do? (Yes I am English!!)

I read a sentence not related to the written answer.

The written answer he just asked me to write

Columbus Day is in October

Went through the N400 form asking the yes/no questions.

He asked was that my wife I was sat with? I said yes he asked was she born in USA, she looked Pilipino? (Her Mom is from Philippines her Dad is an all white American Cop!!) I told him my wife was born in Baltimore MD. He said she is very pretty you must be very happily married? Reply was obvious!!

Chatted to me about my business that I run, gave him the website address for our cabin rentals.

Signed my photos that he already had.

Signed the form.

Then he said congratulations, told me I would get an Oath Ceremony date in next 90 days.

When we went back out into the waiting room he shook my wife’s hand & said Congratulations he passed easily.

Did not ask to see any original documents or taxes, which I had in an envelope he said do you want to give me anything I said well I have my tax returns he briefly looked at them & said I do not need to see anything else & you can have these back!

I went in there armed with a folder of documents as requested, an envelope of taxes & an envelope of information about my Dyslexia which was never discussed or raised even though it was on my N400 form that I was Dyslexic.

I was very nervous, almost sick!! There was no need for me to be at all.

Just wanted to add my interview experience this morning. My interview was a t 10 am this morning, August 26. After entering the building, I handled the security officer my letter and went through security, then went straight to the waiting room. After 10 minutes, the immigration officer went out and ask me to come in. She asked me if I can wait in the hall way while she grabs my file. Later on went to the office and asked me to raise my right hand and tell the truth. Later we went over my n 400. It was quiet. She asked me for ID, passport, green card and tax return copies. Later went over yes/ no questions. She then asked for selective service registration document and other documents. She didn't check all original documents though. She was very nice and we chatted a bit. Then she went straight to civics test. Asked me to read WHO CAN VOTE, then I was asked to write CITiZENS CAN VOTE. Then asked me 6 questions.

1-Who can vote In federal election

2-What's the national anthem?

3-What is the name if the west ocean of the US?

4-What do the thirteen strips in the flag represent?

5- What happened in 9/11?

6- What is the rule of law?

I answered them correctly. She was writing my answers on the paper. Then she told me, congratulations, you passed your test. You should hear from us regarding the oath ceremony in 4 weeks. Mid to late September. It only took 25 minutes and was pretty easy. Good luck everyone out there? Thank you guys for your positive input.

Never posted in this site before. Just wanted to share my story...

I went today for my Interview in Newark, NJ it was scheduled for 8:30 (I arrived at 8:15) but was taken in around 9:10. The interview took around 20 minutes and then I was sent out to wait for the Oath which would take place at 11:30.

During the interview I was asked to verify information in the documents I filled and also how I came to be a Citizen. I was also asked questions about my parents and their current legal status and how that came to be(I found it odd to be asked this and in any case my oldest sister is a citizen and she petitioned my mom). The the civics test came and it was very simple, was asked to read something out loud and write something down.

One quick thing I want to ask. The lady that interviewed me said there were some discrepancies with the interview but said she would still would approve me. I think the issue came when she asked questions about how I became a resident. I told her that I really didn't know how that works because my father petitioned me when I was young and I never filled any papers for it (he had a lawyer for that). She corrected me and said my father didn't petition me but his wife at that time. She also asked me if I had ever lived with them (my Dad and his wife) and I said no, because I have only lived with my mom. She looked a little puzzled after that, could it be that somewhere in there it said that I lived with my father? Who knows.

Anyways...

I took the Oath and I am citizen now so those discrepancies don't matter right? Or will I be receiving some sort of paper later on in regards to that?

It's been a long day so far but I am really happy

Great to hear about Oath Ceremonies for May Filers!

Interview later this week & I keep seeing mention of a Yellow Letter that we have not had?

What is it & does everyone get one?

It is just a letter printed in yellow paper telling the "extra" documents you need to bring to the interview. Mine did not really cited any extra documents, just driver's license and proof of termination of previous marriage, both of which were already cited in the Interview Letter. I think it depends of the local office if you receive a yellow letter or not. Just my guess.

Thank you all so much It has been wonderful looking on here daily and seeing the progression and nerves - just makes you know you are not alone I will still be checking in to cheer you on.

Nothing to worry about though, I think they understand this is our choice and they know what we have been through - just be honest. he officer said that so many people tell little fibs and they always get caught out. He stressed that (which then made me think did I screw up lol)

It was a very emotional day for me too - last time I walk in to the Department of Homeland Security building, last three hour trip to San Antonio for immigration - I will be an American (I never intended on getting citizenship when I arrived 10 years ago - then again I never imagined living in America lol)

So trading in my Akubra (google it) for a Stetson lol ( I will always be an Aussie, I am proud of my roots, but I will be very proud next week to be a dual citizen )

My yellow letter said to bring my driver's license lol

In line now for Oath ....just waiting for letter to figure out what the date will be

Hello everyone, just got back from my Oath ceremony. It was a good/emotional experience becoming the US Citizen. Got the Naturalization Letter and also applied to register for vote. There were 140 candidate from 40 countries....Next step is to apply for US passport and update social security records.

This is the best news MrMrs Drummer! I'll be looking forward to reading about your experience. We never got our biometrics letter from the Portland processing center. We don't know if it's lost in the mail or what but they rescheduled our biometrics date to Sept. 1st and it was supposed to be Aug 1st. I don't think they're going to reissue us a letter either. Do you know if they have walk in appointments? Also could you tell me where do we go for the biometrics appointment and what do we bring?

Sometimes letters get lost, we never received our appointment letter for K visa interview either. My husband (my fiance at that time) had to call and they told him the date.

Looks like you need an infopass to go, but you can call and ask or just go there.

You will need your biometrics appointment notice and your green card for the biometrics. I suggest you to let them know you never received your notice before having your appointment.

The office recently moved from their old location. Now they are at the Pearl District. There is plenty of parking, but you can take the streetcar. I will probably take the streetcar this time. Here is the map:
